Looking for a few Boston spots to grab a quick single course at the bar, for an anniversary night out.
We've done a few dinners like this, restaurant crawl style. The area in the south end home to Hammersley's, The Butcher Shop, B&G Oyster, Sibling Rivalry and 28 Degrees was perfect for it. Hammersley's bar is smallish - but turns over. Inman Square in Cambridge works nicely too, Ole, East Coast Grill and Christina's (more of a with-kids crawl)

Flour bakery Twice Baked brioche, hands down
Hopping Back Bay restaurant for girls weekend.
I would definitely place Mistral in the GNO catagory, at least for 30-40 ish "girls". the bar area has a lot of energy. I would also walk over to 28 Degrees, butchershop, etc in heels from Jurys.

May 2011 Openings and Closings
I think AreaIV in Kendall Square just opened - just breakfast, lunch for now. Looking forward to another option for after work drinks, not sure when that will happen
April 2011 Openings and Closings
It was a mob scene at 5:30, would have had to wait to get a beer who knows how long. left and headed down the street. Will have to wait for the hype to die down.
First date on Friday night?
"Scotch/Bourbon/Whiskey at the bar" made me think of Hungry Mother in Cambridge. They always have interesting brown-liquor drinks on their cocktail menu. I ate there last week and it felt really cozy but with a good vibrant buzz, nice for a first date. 10 minute walk from the Kendall Sq T, Parking one block down next to Kendall Sq Cinema.

Good Food in Sugarbush, VT.
The Green Cup serves dinner on the weekend and it was wonderful when we tried it last year. it is tiny, cozy and the food was creative and very good. american flatbread is really fun with terrific thin crust pizza, but you really have to queue up early (4:30) to be sure you'll get in at a reasonable time.

Rosie's bakery
They do cakes to order, so next time you need a birthday cake, call a couple days ahead and get a Queen Raspberry (choc. cake, fudge and raspberry fillings, mocha buttercream.). The buttercream frosting really is amazing and I've made the cake from the cookbook and it takes a LONG time, so it feels like you are getting your money's worth when you buy it. This way you avoid wondering how long something has been sitting in the display case.
One Special Night in Boston
Erbaluce was my immediate thought too. There will be something vegetarian and interesting and it has a lovely intimate, cozy atmosphere.

Help - A drink at a pewter / zinc bar?
Bomboa on Stanhope street took over the location of a restaurant called Zinc a few (8?) years ago. Zinc was so named for its huge,20ft + long, zinc bar. I know the zinc bar stayed on as a part of Bamboa way back then. They may have since made some changes to their decor, but it may still be there.

Kendall Square: The Boston's Area's Next Restaurant Row?
But, if a place is good enough - diners will come. Just look at Hungry Mother. And it seem like there is still untapped opportunity in the dinner and a movie option with the Kendall Square Cinema - the Quantum Books location is a quite close and it wouldn't take much to trump Cambridge Brewing Co. food offerings.

Silk Road BBQ at Kendall?
Their website had a little map of their location - I've been wanting to try it too. Will try to check in out this Wednesday for lunch. Thanks for the heads up.
New restaurant in Concord MA area?
The help wanted listing on Boston Chefs.com has a group of listings for openings in Concord, chefs, servers, bar. Sounds like a new place might be going in. Anyone know the scoop?
Best sandwich in boston?
Flour Bakery has a great lamb sandwich. Tried at the south end location.

Tell me which Concord Area restaurants a Camberville Foodie would like?
Thanks for the report on Spicepepper garden - will definitely try it, as options in Concord for Chinese are lacking to say the least. We made our way out to Concord 17 years ago now and I thank god I still work in Cambridge so I can more easily get a fix of old/new favorites. And still, for any sort of date night - we head into Boston/Cambridge or at least as far as Waltham. I feel your pain.
Best Boston Burger
As obscene as $18 is for a burger, I'd order one at Cragie on Main again. All that grass-fed organic yadda yadda beef, a brioche bun, what's not to love? I think it had tiny little onion strings and a great fennel salad on the side too when I tried it. Plus, those great cocktails to go along with, yum.
Visiting Boston with a Shellfish Allergy…
We dine out with a nut/peanut allergic child. From my experience, and from information in an interview with the chef, Oleana in Cambridge takes food allergies very seriously. They don't specialize in fish, so may have more options for you. Plus, the food is wonderful. (Mediterranean/north african)
East Coast Grill (also in Cambridge), does specialize in fish, but has many other options, including BBQ. They have established a careful procedure of relaying food allergy info to the kitchen and will repeat that they know your issue and give you a little piece of paper that says your food is allergy free. Comforting.
Blue Ginger is a bit tougher to get to, but it is terrific too.
(Wherever you end up - bring your epi pen please!)
Ideas for drinks outside, Boston, on the water, music a plus?
Friends coming into Boston/Cambridge, looking to have drinks outside on Thursday night, hopefully on the water, even better if there is music. Only place I can think of is Rowes Wharf, there is some sort of Thursday night Blues Barge and I'm pretty sure we can eat/drink outside. Anyone know the details on that or have another, better, idea?
Concord, MA Restaurants
That would be Farfalle. Pressed sandwiches, pasta dish of the day, deli.
My review of trip to Waitsfield/Warren/Sugarbush
We've enjoyed The Common Man. Great cosy, open-beamed barn dining room. Super friendly staff (who ran to the kitchen to get a dessert recipe for us). The menu doesn't change often, but has enough variety to keep most happy. Appetizer of venison gnocci was the big winner last visit. Prices well below the Pitcher Inn.
Also to try - The Warren General Store for truly awesome sandwiches.
I've been meaning to try The Green Cup, looks to specialize in local foods, yadda yadda.
Upscale Bar...Good food
28 degrees, Tremont Street. Very bar like, great drinks, interesting food, cool vibe.
or, divey-er, B-side lounge, Cambridge, 5 min cab ride, great classic cocktails, upscale bar food, nice neighborhood atmosphere.
What's on your Christmas menu?
We've settled only on Christmas morning so far. Cranberry Cinnamon buns. Can prep them the night before, let them rise and bake while opening presents and enjoy. A double or triple batch will let us deliver ready to bake buns to the neighbors too.
Appetizer ideas when fondue is the main course
With all the rich cheese to follow, maybe start with something really light, shrimp cocktail perhaps. Then a salad, special it up with poached pears and toasted pecans or something, maybe a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds.
Need a dessert idea for Christmas dinner
creme puffs filled with peppermint stick ice cream, a little chocolate sauce on top.
Any good meatball subs.
Guiseppe's Sub Shop
309 Watertown Street, Newton
I sometimes drive over from the far side of east cambridge to get one of their meatball subs. Cheap, cheap and perfect sub bread, and tender tasty meatballs.
1st trip to Boston, need food suggestions
I have to agree with another poster that Mike's or Modern aren't really breakfast bakeries. Lots of No. End restaurants don't even serve dessert, the idea being that you walk over to a cafe afterwards. Maybe do Modern for a cannoli after dinner at Antico Forno. That way you can save one of your breakfasts (or both) for a great bakery that specializes in breakfast items. Flour in the South end comes to mind or Carberry's in Central Square (one block off Mass ave). Or go out for a real breakfast and a LOT of Boston flavor at Charlies Sandwich shop, also in the So. End - turkey hash, yum.
It's Mojito season...who does the best one?
Have loved the ones at Chez Henri, but had a couple great, not so traditional Mojitos at Sibling Rivalry. One with strawberries in the spring, and on the next visit with raspberries. NOT too sweet, nice tall glass. I think the bartenders mix great drinks there.....and I do believe they have some outdoor seating.
