Mexican Coca-Cola or Throwback/Natural Pepsi in Pinellas County?

Thanks for the suggestions and replies everyone. I was able to find some at a Mexican market (Don Ramon or Don Pablo or something like that?) on the NE corner of Drew St. & US 19. I did have sugar instead of corn syrup. I could taste a faint difference between it and regular coke, and was surprised that to me there wasn't more of a difference. It does taste cleaner and smoother. I haven't tried the Pepsi Throwback yet though...

Largo/Clearwater Mexican Gem: La Carreta

Just found a really good little Mexican place called La Carreta. I am always on the look out for these. Tiny little place in a small strip-mall building, on Belcher Road, just a bit north of Ulmerton, on the east side.

Very good food. The owner is from Mexico City. The kitchen is very small and right there in front of you. I am vegetarian and have only tried the cheese enchiladas (red), and enchiladas verdes, but they are both really quite excellent, and the chips and salsa are quite good (although one time they did the old re-fry the old chips thing, which I really dislike).

For me the barometer of a good mexican restaurant is the enchiladas. There are so many bad mexican restaurants in Pinellas County, but this is a very good one.

The only other good ones I know of in Pinellas County are El Maguey on 66th St & Park Blvd in Pinellas Park, and Los Compadres on SR 60, East of 19, on the south side (east of the mall).

Pretty much everything else is terrible. If anyone knows of any other good (and they would probably would have to be new) Mexican in the Clearwater/Pinellas area, please advise!

Actually, I have heard Lakeview Grill is good, but haven't tried it yet.

Should we take a chance on Curriez?

Thanks Robert.. yes was thinking about going today.. hmm.. haven't been to Deeya in maybe 6 or 8 months or so... always thought it was pretty good.. I think they have changed ownership and have gotten even better during this timeframe am I correct?

Well, for today it's either gonna be Taste of Punjab (been here once and liked it quite a bit); or Curriez (did find some very positive reviews on Yahoo local (some seemed fake however) and urban spoon.. the whole mix of very bad and very good reviews seems odd though; or the reliable Deeya.

Pizza in Miami

2nd STEVE'S in North Miami!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god so good

I remember when I used to live in Surfside, I could always rely on them after late-night poker games coming back in to the beach.

You can get seriously addicted to this pizza. Don't know how they do it. It's the rather sweet sauce that really does it though I think; therefore you will probably either LOVE this pizza or rather not like it at all. Nothing in-between methinks.

Should we take a chance on Curriez?

The lady and I are thinking about going to Curriez in Seminole ($20 weekend buffet coupon for 2 :) ... but found some very negative reviews on the google map result for it.

Is Curriez any good lately? Should we go?

Thanks in advance guys!

Another quick and delicious Indian option are the Jyoti brand canned goods. Doesn't sound great, but wow are these the best non-restaurant Indian you'll ever try. My favorites are the Dal Makhani and Madras Sambar (yellow lentils w/vegetables). These dishes are impeccably seasoned and perfect if you don't want to cook or go out. Amazon carries these and has great prices by the case (In fact I just ordered a case each of the two lentils; thats how good they are.)

Vegetarian & Carnivore

You probably want to find a good Ethiopian restaurant. I live in St. Pete, so others might know of some good ones in Miami.

Here ya go:

The address on the website is wrong (4327 66th); that's their old address. They are up the road north now on 66th just south of Park Blvd on the east side.

Yes I love El Maguey- great stuff- I usually order the cheese (i ask them to add onion) enchiladas.. comes with rice and beans.. but if you're vegetarian make SURE to request the whole beans, as the two other versions both have bacon/etc.. I also get their burrito mojade (wet burrito) w/red sauce and ask them to vegetarianize it (not on menu), and it's usually fantastic, always w a nice variety of freshly sauteed veggies + the usual rice/beans (again request whole)

Another decent place (while not as authentic and def. more americanized) if you're in a pinch is Nuevo Vallarta in the Howard Johnson on US19 just S of the 49th st interchange. Not bad.

You guys may crucify me (heh), but I do enjoy Sweet Tomatoes once in awhile. If you're really in the mood to eat (and I mean you can do some eatin here), it's actually pretty decent food, and great for us vegetarians. I actually love their salad bar.

Oh that's too bad about Faros.. I only went there once, and thought it was great.. but, that's good news about Athenian Garden moving in! I love their salads and falafel and now don't have to drive down to Tyrone!

Yeah there's some quality about Country Pizza Inn's pies that's hard to put my finger on. I don't really know what makes it so tasty, but you just seriously want to eat piece after piece until you're finished with the whole damn pie lol. Yeah, the spinach/feta is good; I usually just order the veggie pizza- it's really great

Carmelita's has got to be some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Tasteless and mediocre at best.

For good Mexican try El Maguey on 66th just south of Park Blvd, or Los Compadres on Gulf to Bay, just east of the monster shopping plaza (GulftoBay/US 19)

-----------
2nd Deeya all the way- solid Indian food.. will try ToP soon

Pizza:
Have to mention Feola's on Ulmerton - very good although sometimes the cheese/toppings slip of when there's too many toppings.. it's best to just order standard NY cheese.. absolutely delicious sauce & great crust.

Country Pizza Inn on 66th just south of East Bay (19 access road) has some really tasty pizza as well-

Also Pizza Bella Napoli just west of the Tri-City plaza is quite good, as is Valentino's on East Bay west of Belcher. A'amore on 66th excellent too.

Chinese: well it's basically a take-out place but New China Beach on Ulmerton just east of US 19 is really good. Also (I know it's a chain!) Pei-Wei (66th St & around 15th ave) has a nice variety of Asian dishes- cheap and big portions; it's casual sit down & take-out. I always enjoy it. Good for us vegetarians.

Greek: How can you go wrong with Athenian Garden (22nd ave w of 66th)? Great greek salad, abs. delicious dressing.. good falafel too.

Faros Greek Italian Grill on Starkey south of Ulmerton is a very nice sit-down Italian and Greek restaurant.. really good pasta dishes- very nice atmosphere too- try it!

What else? Someone mentioned Frida's on Ulmerton - great place for coffee (1 lb coffee for $7.99 too; this is where I get my coffee beans!) and gread salads and paninis! (very nice staff too- nice place to chill they have wifi also)

For Thai I like Thai Bay on East Bay west of Keene (Starkey). Great dishes for vegetarians and great curries.
