Weekend in New Orleans - no fancy restaurants!
I'll be in town for a three-day weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun). I'm wondering - where should I eat? I love fancy sit-down restaurants with the best of them, but I'm really interested in getting local food, local flavor, at local places. I'm not afraid to go off the beaten path (as long as no driving required), I never ask for ingredient substitutions, and I'm not afraid to eat standing up at a counter. I haven't gotten a lot of opportunity to try legit New Orleans food, living in the chilly Northeast, but I love everything I have tried.
Thanks everyone!
Seafood Place on Cape Ann?
The wife and I want to take a drive up the North Shore tonight - can anyone recommend a good seafood place in Gloucester/Ipswich/Newburyport? We have lobster rolls, fried clams and beers by the water in mind.
Please, not the Clam Shack in Ipswich. We love that place, but we want to try something new. Anything like that anywhere else?
Thanks!
Looking for the best cuban sandwich
Like other haev said, O de Cuba has a decent Cubano. The best one in JP, though, is definitely at Miami Restaurant. Great little place, across from the Brendan Behan in Hyde Square. The right bread, perfect roast pork, and the batidos are much better than they are at O de C (smoother, if that makes any sense). There's also a decent Cubano at Guaro y Tambora on Washington St. in Roslindale (south of Forest Hills, north of Rosi Center - I think it used to be a Mexican place?). Guaro is techinically a Dominican restaurant.
Best Allston Breakfast options
Steve's Kitchen has great food. Definitely nothing fancy, but if you're after a greasy-spoon breakfast near Harvard/Comm, that's the place.
There's also Martin's Coffee Shop in Brookline Village - I'm pretty sure it's on the 66 bus, and it's also very good diner food. Cash only.
