New Scichuanese Restaurant in Town-very authentic and delicious [KanBai restaurant]

Went last week and got a sizzling pepper beef dish, "mapo tofu", cucumber and jellyfish salad, fungus salad and hot and sour cabbage. My favorite was the mapo tofu, better than Cuizine Scechuan's by far and I got to et it all by myself with leftovers for work the next day :o). But the rest wasn't up to par. The pepper dish was actual ground pepper, and the taste of pepper was too stromg. I know I shouldn't assume that they have the same dishes as Cuisine szechuan but I did and was way off. The fried cabbage was pretty good but a little too sweet for my taste, but only by a little. The fungus and jellyfish were very good. We laughed because I asked for "extra exra spicy" and the beef and cabbage dishes werent spicy at all, they took it back and re cooked it with hotter peppers to mkae it to our liking, so I appreciated that. All in all quite good, but I wouldn't go back unless it was for the mapo tofu.

Where can I take a Macaron Cooking Class in Montreal (preferably in English)?

They have one here it seems but it's french and in Laval and April 21st 2012...might be useful for others though.

Good news for Montreal chiliheads! Cuisine Szechuan

No! Go to cuisine szechuan if you want a great spicy szechuan meal. Try the chilli pepper beef, its like chilli chicken with soft delicious beef. Its an experience you must have while visiting the city.

Has anyone been and had candied olives? Are they black or green? Thanks

Best Salad in town

For a real out of the ordinary salad I would suggest:

Cuisine szechuan`s cucumber and bean noodle salad- spicy and delicious.
Au pied de cochon`s golden beet and goat cheese salad- a tangy, salty and sweet experience in your mouth
Poissonerie Rayan....yes! Goes so well with everything there but I could just eat the salad on its own!

Indian restaurant with an open kitchen

It looks like a pretty clean place, and they make it all in front of you so...I guess thats as good as its gonna get! What did you have when you went there? If you like fish the fish pakoras and chilifish are great.

Indian restaurant with an open kitchen

If you are willing to come to Laval:

Restaurant Daata
1253 Boulevard Curé-Labelle Laval, QC H7V 2V9

I have been there a few times and the food is always great. I particularly like the chili fish and palaak paneer. The kitchen is open, I noticed yesterday when I got the above for takeout. They can make the food EXTREMELY spicy if you ask for it too, with these tiny green chillies.....

Ruby Watch Co.

My cousin said they charge $6 for plain water, in a decanter.....is this correct?

best roti and jerk chicken?

Caribbean curry house!

Bizarre Foods Montreal

Then you would love sucrerie de la montagne :o)

Bizarre Foods Montreal

Oh come on he said he was experimenting....the guy is so lovable how can you say anything against him? Unless you are a pig or a duck....

Bizarre Foods Montreal

No it wasn't the same guy or the same place. When Anthony Bourdain went he was at "sucrerie de la montagne". We went there a few years back and I have been going different places for years and years and it was the best cabane a sucre experience we ever had, food and ambiance. There wwas a live band playing instruments and singing folk songs and people were gathering around and dancing. Great for the whole family. Other cabane a sucres I have been to had us wanting to eat quickly and leave.

Bizarre Foods Montreal

Yup...overall it was pretty good though.

Fish restaurant

I always suggest poissonerie Rayan on cote des neiges...I went last night and yet again super impressed with their seafood. We had calmaris, octopus, shrimps and for the first time there, sauteed scallops..wow...just wow. It's not fancy and it's super busy and loud but the food will amaze you.

Veg/Seafood-friendly Birthday/Anniversary restaurant?

I hope this isn't too late: Get the damn scallops! They are crazy good!

Question about Romados

You don't have to question yourself on that one, asking for SAUCE at a RESTAURANT is not ridiculous.....

Question about Romados

Well...a place that does a lot of pick ups and take outs should have little cups as part of their equipment. I still think it is either laziness or paranoia about their secret sauces. People will probably still go back if they say no without a real reason.

Another Greek thread...

If you do go to parthenons try the grilled calmaries stuffed with feta cheese and vegetables as an appetizer. Simply divine.

Where to go with picky eaters who don't know that they are - Montreal

Poissonerie Rayan on cote des neiges could fit the bill, no meat there just seafood, and the garlic and olive oil shrimps and octopus are amazing by the way....but I think I saw them have some cream based soups...I predict complaints about the line ups, the loud and busy atmosphere none the less.

vegan gone caveman!! want to find humane beef seller/ restauraunt in montreal!!

Question about Romados

Same thing happened to me once too, at Braseiro on St-laurent....according to them they don't give extra sauce on the side to go in case you "take it home, analyse it, reproduce it and sell it". I wish I were joking!

Galo

I went a couple of times and it was really good, I had their pork sandwich which was very moist and tasty and a grilled tomato stuffed with other veggies and cheese. A lot of people that I work with order from there as well. Give it a try and buy a bottle of piri piri sauce on the way out!

Your favorite meals in Montreal $25 and under (including tax and tip)

I have seen people bring beer to Parthenon's on Van Horne and Ban Lao Thai on Decarie without an issue....

I guess make it a "classier" beer and not a cheap 6 pack. Not that there is anything wrong with that ;oP

Sunday Brunch

Portovino's?

New Northern joint in Chinatown 2 (long review)

Still waiting to see if this one has a name? Anyone else go?

Tapioca Thé?!

I have had a few bad meals there over the past couple of years and will not be returning. Almost raw lobster, bad cumin lamb and really vinegary mushroom salad turned me off. In 2009 I loved it but somehow it went totally downhill. My dining partners (4 others) agreed. I never had an issue with cuizine szechuan so that's where we are staying for spicy szechuan.

Jarred pasta sauces?

I recently saw sauces from Magnan's at a Metro grocery store in Laval. Pricey but intriguing...anyone try it?
