Where can I take my teenage cousin to eat and learn about cooking?

Doesn't have to be French or Italian. Casa Mono and Kin Shop are great suggestions, although I'm worried the menus might be too adventurous for her, but I'll think about it. Thanks for replying so quickly!

Where can I take my teenage cousin to eat and learn about cooking?

My cousin is 15 and is really passionate about cooking (and the food network...). She's going to Cake Boss with her dad and is taking italian and a french pastry cooking classes in the city.

I want to take her to dinner where she can either a) watch the food being made b) meet the chef and/or c) learn about cooking and cuisine.

It would be so amazing if anyone knew of a tiny place where the chef is friendly and might even be willing to surprise her by taking her back to the kitchen. I know that's pretty much impossible but I figured I'd ask anyway. Doesn't have to be dinner-- a bakery or cafe would be great as well.

I just want her to have a memorable experience! Any and all suggestions welcome. We'll be hanging out this Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks!

Cheap, Delicious, Fun Mexican Group Dining

I should add that South Brooklyn is also an option, but I know I'm on the Manhattan board...

Cheap, Delicious, Fun Mexican Group Dining

Chowhounders, you have been so good to me from recommending places for my birthday or a nice restaurant to go to with my parents, you have never failed me. So here's the next question:

My best friend would like to have a birthday dinner on Sunday, April 17th, and wants the following:

Delicious, as-authentic-as-possible, Mexican food
12-15 people
Fun atmosphere
Not over $20 an entree
Good chips & guac
Any downtown neighborhood

Looking forward to your responses so we can make a reservation (time flies fast) soon!

Thanks!

15 people, dinner, drinks, whole night in one place

Planning my birthday now, looking for a fun place, not too trendy but still fun and maybe has potential for dancing, a place where we could all eat delicious food at a big table and then either stay there or move to another room/upstairs/downstairs for more drinking and FUN. Downtown Manhattan only.

Important considerations: Want it to be good food, can be any type of cuisine although ideally a place where food is meant to be shared. Really don't want to have to deal with terrible service and mean pretentious pretty people for my birthday.

Places I've been thinking of: Lani Kai, Los Feliz, Cienfuegos

Thanks!

Hearth looks excellent, although I heard from one or two people that they thought the food was only OK. Willing to give it a try though. Any other suggestions like that?

Special Birthday DInner with Dad

The only reason I mention Ma Peche is because I think its the only restaurant I'd go uptown for if it's worth it :) I've been to Noodle Bar and loved it but too casual (sitting on benches) for my Dad, and I've been told Ma Peche is an experience!

Looking for a really "wow" dinner, location doesn't really matter although my favorite nabes are mostly below 14th street (I won't do meatpacking district, for example).

There will be 4 of us and I'm looking for really fresh, market-driven cooking (dream being blue hill but too expensive and too hard to get a reservation!). I'm flexible on type of cuisine (see below).

My Dad comes to NY a lot, so I want to blow him away and have it be a really memorable meal, but not exorbitantly expensive, loud, trendy, or pretentious.

I was thinking about Ma Peche (but maybe too pricey?), Freeman's, Commerce, not sure what else.

Reservation will be for this coming friday. Any ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hey, I'm coming to Myrtle Beach, SC for a few days. I have never been to the South before, and I would love to find a good barbeque spot. Thanks for your help.

Urgent!! cute and CHEAP birthday dinner for 12!

Great recommendations everyone, thanks!

Just out of curiosity has anyone been to grape and grain or against the grain for a dinner party? They're still on our list too.

Urgent!! cute and CHEAP birthday dinner for 12!

Of the three above, cucina di pesce seemed the best in terms of price and food. Paladar was a little on the pricier side and I don't think people want latin american food. We've been to inoteca and love it but are looking for something new.

Any other ideas? Has anyone thrown a dinner party and cucina di pesce? What'd the tab come out to be and how was the experience overall?

Thanks for the ideas, guys. Keep em coming! I'm hoping to make a reservation tonight/tomorrow.

Urgent!! cute and CHEAP birthday dinner for 12!

Looking for a spot for a birthday dinner for 12 people for next saturday night. Open to cuisine but would like it to either be italian or something interesting. No Sushi, Thai, Chinese, Or Mexican.

Area: Lower East Side, East Village area, open to SoHo as well but I know that tends to be an expensive area. We want it to be near bars where we can go afterwards, but that's not crucial.

Other requests:
1.We would like it to be a pretty place, not super loud as we would all like to talk to each other.Want it to feel a little special if possible.
2. We are on a pretty tight budget as guests will all be on different budgets and we don't want anyone to feel bad. It'd be great if we could get a fixed price menu of around $20 a person so people don't have to argue about who ordered what and prices and such. But if we can't do that, that's ok, we just want cheap!
3. I know I"m on the Manhattan board, but we'd be open to Brooklyn as well, such as Fort Greene neighborhood.

Places we were thinking of (to give you an idea) Grape and Grain, Giano, Pepe Rosso

Thanks!

SoHo dinner for family

My aunt and father are going to be in town this Saturday. We're looking for a place in SoHo, as my aunt will be coming from 180 Varick St, so I want to find a place around there.

She is a cook herself, so I want the food to be amazing. Also want it to be fun, lively but not too noisy and crowded, and not too expensive (around $20 for an entree).

To give you an idea, I was thinking about Hundred Acres, but I just read a terrible review on nymag.com and the menu actually looked a little boring.

Thanks!
