Excellent off the beaten path affordable Cantonese at Yum's Bistro in Fremont
He is the one you speak of on Yelp.

Good stuff KK...hope all is well. I need to schedule another trip back to Yum's to try the Chicken stuffed w/Sticky Rice. Last time I took my parents there, they didn't indicate that it had to be pre-ordered...but then again, I let my brother plan it out and he probably dropped the ball. The crab meat with egg white sounds really good too!
Ryan Farr's healthy chicharrones - “Crunchy crack-in-a-bag”?
I had my first taste of Ryan's chicharones during his whole beef class. They are like no other chicharones you've ever had. They are light, crispy, and melt in your mouth, unlike the crunchy variety you buy in the store. Ryan was a little secretive about his process, and I guess I don't blame him.
Any SF or Peninsula Restaurants with Crab Specials?
K K definitely knows what he's talking about and what to order at Yum's.
Been back only once (2010) since our dinner there in 2009. Another dinner there is in order.
Rockfish at Costco
Anyone know what type of rockfish it is that Costco has as fillets in the Bay Area?
iso: Ostrich Egg
There is a place in Pleasanton (Happy Valley area) that has an ostrich farm. They have a homemade sign off of 680N before the Sunol Blvd exit. I contacted the number before, 925-846-9551, and it gets you to 3 different voice mailboxes. Which is the correct one to leave a message, I don't know. Someone did call me back (several days later) with a different number, but I don't remember it offhand. The person indicated that they didn't have anything other than empty eggs at the moment, but you can try and find out more.
In search of sushi in Livermore area
For the Livermore Area, Kawa is decent. I prefer to head to Pleasanton to Meiko or Sozo's as their fish quality is pretty good.

Glad I was able to participate in this feast K K. It was indeed worth it all. I need to go back and use the squab coupon.
Halal Turkeys in the Bay Area '09
anyone seeking Fulton Valley free range birds may want to contact Sylvia at Polarica in SF. I bought a turkey from them last year for $2/lb. Not to mention, they also have duck confit and duck fat available.

Monchong as sashimi?
It was nowhere near the taste of yellowtail. It just tasted plain...like snapper.
Monchong and Spearfish in Los Angeles?
I can't say I recall now. I think it was pretty plain.
Pizza, not the precious Californian kind
Pazzia
Gaspare's
Giorgio's
Pizzeria Delfina
Pasquale's
...would all be better choices.
Dinner at S&T Hong Kong Seafood (San Francisco)
I would guess that this is place is less expensive than R&G and Great Eastern.
Ame, or Boulevard?
My wife took me to Ame for my bday in April and it was great. The atmosphere at Ame is definitely more elegant than Boulevard.
Kid-Friendly Chinese in Chinatown
Most Chinese restaurants are going to be kid-friendly, unless you mean a place where your kids can run around freely.
I'd 2nd Great Eastern because of their seafood selection too.
Source for sushi-grade tuna on the Peninsula?
Suruki's is great as someone mentioned.
You can also try Nijiya on El Camino, just south of 92 in San Mateo.
Battle of Chicken & Waffles in Oakland
Merrit's, definitely. Who cares what's on the menu, if you're having C&W. HoCaW waffles aren't usually too crispy. But I like their side offerings better than Merrit's.
For just fried chicken, you can also try Dorsey's Locker or Nellie's. Pican's was OK too.
Southbay dinner?
From what I'm told, there's much more that they offer than your standard steak. Unless you dry age your steak at home, it's going to be different at Alexander's. They do have actual wagyu beef from Japan which they can provide the docs for proof if required. My friend proposed to his fiance there. He arranged dinner at the chef's table. They had a beef sampling plate worth getting, which may only be offered as part of the Iron Chef meal. If your BF loves beef, then he should enjoy it.
Southbay dinner?
My friends all highly recommend Alexander's, if you're into steak houses. It's the best in the South Bay, and one place I'm hoping to visit soon.
If you cant get in at Gary Danko, whats next?
Gary Danko's to me, was mediocre. I had a better time at Spruce and Ame.
Monchong as sashimi?
Anyone ever had it? I picked up some from Costco today to try it out. The flesh looks like yellowtail, but I haven't heard what it's comparable in taste to. Anyone tried it as sashimi?
I already know, from Googling, that I can grill or poach it, and it's supposed to have a nice firm texture.
Linguini with clams and/or mussels
Diner's Drive-Inns and Dives did a spotlight on Rocco's Cafe's linguini and clams that looked really good.
Reasonably-priced lunch in Chinatown?
R&G and Great Eastern are great for Cantonese-style food, but they're a little pricier than $10-15/person. They specialize more in dishes to share, rather than rice plate specials.
Yuet Lee is good, however I find it overpriced for the type of food/atmosphere. It's geared towards tourist.
Skip House of Nanking at all costs. It is an abomination of Chinese food.
Prime Beef at Costco
Don't know about Tx, but at CA Costco's, Prime Rib-eye steaks are $10/lb; NY steaks $11/lb. A whole boneless rib-eye section is $6.99/lb for USDA Prime.
Monchong and Spearfish in Los Angeles?
I just came across some Monchong fillets at Costco for about $10/lb. I was curious about it and picked up a pack to try. It looks a little like Yellowtail, but I don't know how it tastes. The lobster-esk taste sounds appealing. I'll try it tonite.
Rec for Chinese Sponge Cake in Chinatown
I've always liked Eastern Bakery's cakes, but haven't heard about the not too nice reports recently. Their coffee crunch cake is the best.
