Good Asian Market in Fairfield County?
Patel Bros on Ct. Ave., Norwalk.
Across parking lot from Best Buy.
However, no butcher on site.
Authentic Mexican food and great cocktails
How about El Parador on E34 near the tunnel entrance.
Been around a long time, must be doing something right.
I remember when they were located a few blocks away on 2nd Ave. in the late 60's.

Your current NYC favorites
I've been going to the Feeding Tree since the early 90's.
A very good choice before the game if you like Jamaican.
They are located on Gerard Ave.
Coppelia and other Cuban
Coppelia is NOT a place I would go for Cuban food after reading the Gael Greene link above. There wasn't one dish that could be considered as traditional Cuban. I'm not suggesting that the food is good or bad just that none are traditional.

Casual UES dinner spot w/ outdoor space
Uva has a nice garden space in the back and tables on the sidewalk with good food.

Great crust at Pizzaria Rosso—Norwalk
Their pizza is good but the crust is too thick for me.
I will ask them to thin the outer crust for me next time.
I still prefer John's Best (New Canaan Ave location) but they don't seem to be opening anytime soon.
Pizzaria Rosso is a good alternative.
Note: special for the month of May is their 16" tomato/cheese pizza for only $5.
Older sister needs help finding a private room or area for 12 person bachelorette party
I would look at Pfaff's on B'way near Bleecker. They have rooms that look out into the main room plus very good food/drinks that will meet or exceed your expectations. This is a new place that just opened a few weeks ago and relatively unknown to the general public. The $65/person is possible to meet.

Coppelia and other Cuban
Victor's is the best Cuban restaurant in Manhattan if you are looking for "traditional" Cuban food such as you would find at Versailles in Miami. Also Pilar on Classon Ave in Brooklyn is very good but they have a small place that probably seats no more than (10) people.
Southern New England Board
I believe a more appropriate name would be the "Metro New York Board" comprised of NYC, Hudson, Bergen, lower Westchester & lower Fairfied Counties.
Fairway (Stamford CT) Four Months Later - Thoughts?
I was in their wine shop to check the pricing. Their wine prices are high when you compare them to Manhattan prices where I buy all my wine.
No reason for the liquor store to be open on Sunday or most other stores for that matter. Just increases their overhead. I'm not going to buy an extra case of wine on Sunday just because they are open or shoes from a shoe store just because they are open. It is hard to justify why almost any store is open (7) days/week.
Southern New England Board
I don't know how others feel, but Fairfield County just doesn't feel right since it was incorporated into the Southern New England Board.
Chowhound, in my view, made a big mistake breaking up NYC, Westchester and Fairfield into (3) separate board locations.
If it were up for vote and I had a vote, I would vote that it would revert back to the way it was in the "good old days".
Fairway (Stamford CT) Four Months Later - Thoughts?
(-) My biggest surprise at Fairway was their very small selection of Latin American products in the frozen food section. I couldn't even find frozen yuca which is a staple in many south of the border countries.
(-) We purchased a few of the bakery items but found them to be inadequate even though they looked so good. I will have to keep buying at the SONO Bakery where we have never been disappointed.
(+) We do like their Costa Rican coffee (dark beans) for its flavor and most important for us, its low acidity.
(+) Also like their cheese section.
I would like to see them post accurate food directory charts at the ends of all the aisles.
Corner Shop Cafe is back.
FYI-they will re-opened under new ownership on Monday. It is my understanding that they retained the same chef. Don't know if it is the same menu but, I would bet it is at least similar to the old one.
Corner of Bleecker & B'way.
80th Birthday suggestions, Norwalk area???
Barcelona comes to my mind immediately especially for a large group. You are able to order tapas, raciones or dinner depending on how hungry you might be.
I wouldn't classify their food as amazing but it is certainly good.
It would help if you added to your post the food that would be acceptable to your grandmother.
Stew Leonard's vs. Fairway
I agree 100% w/Bagelman. I haven't been to SL's since his arrest(I believe it was around1992). His ripoff was a long term operation He had plenty of time to consider the path he was taking. To this day I can't understand why the sheeple shop there when there are many better choices.
Savin Rock Roasters? Was Harborside in Stratford, CT
FYI- Savin Rock Roasters has opened in Norwalk on New Canaan Ave at the former Costa Bravo location close to A & S Deli.
New Cuban in Stamford?
Cubanaso; another descent Cuban place is Pilar's in Bklyn on Classon St.
Looking for a Great Cuban Sandwich in FFD CTY CT
FYI
http://icuban.com/food/cuban_sandwich.html
this link give you the recipe for a Cuban sandwich the way they made it at Badias in Miami many years ago and is representative of a traditional Cuban sandwich.
BTW pan Cubano is AKA pan de agua. Union City is the closest source as far as I know.
Best Indian Food Restaurants in CT?
MLC-I believe you are thinking of Bonani.
They were originally in Westport many years ago, then moved to Norwalk on Rt.1/ Strawberryhill Ave and then again to his present location on Rt. 123 across from the Broad River playing field.
As you surely know, he does mostly takeout. He will also cook the food to meet your preferences.
Where to buy Coca-cola (without high fructose corn syrup)?
Coca-cola made with cane sugar can be found in some of the grocery stores near 3rd Ave & E117/118 St. They are available every day not just during the holidays.
I heard a rumor that Coke is going to mainstream Coke made with cane sugar since many people are finding out about the downside of HFCS.
Best Doughnuts in CT?
Coffee An' in Westport. The best powdered sugar cake donuts in the NYC metro area.
Pizza size
I'm wondering if anyone out there has noticed a reduction in Pizza size vs. the advertised size?
I've found that 16" pizzas are now close to actually 14" at a place on the Norwalk/Wilton border. This is about a 25% reduction in the pizza footprint. Could be a case of avoiding an outright price increase on the menu or poor quality control.
Pastelitos de Guayaba (Guava Pastries)
Union City is probably your best bet. BTW, La Suiza Bakery is a good option for Versailles.
Pilar Cuban Eatery in Brooklyn
Even though the menu has some fusion type dishes on balance it looks mainly traditional. They do differentiate between Cuban bread & medianoche bread which is a good sign that they may be the real thing. However, I don't see yuca con mojo on the menu which is a red flag for me.
I will give it one try and evaluate it for myself. For me the basics like the rice, bread & platanos need to be correct.
I'm always looking for a traditional Cuban restaurant but, without much success. There are too many places in the metro area that advertise themselves as Cuban simply as a marketing gimmick.
My go to place for Cuban food has always been Victors. Maybe Pilar will be the next Victors.
orwasher's
NO, not closed. I was there two days ago. There was a change of ownership last year.
Casual quiet dinner in E 80's area
These are my favs:
Sojourn E79 btw 2/3 very good to excellent food.
Uva 2nd Ave btw 78/77 St
Goya olive oil in 3 L cans ??
I did contact Goya back in Apr09 and they identified (3) locations and all are hit or miss, almost always a miss. I did have one store, that has a large Spanish speaking clientele, special order for me but recently underwent a change in ownership and new owners are not so amicable. If I were to see a Goya truck offloading, I would definitely buy a case fromf the driver. Who would have thunk this would be so difficult?
