New Finds: Thomas Keller Pimps Out His Fried Chicken Secrets

Well, there you go. I looked at this and thought, "I would really like to get this as a gift" -- maybe because i'm somewhere between "can cook" and "can't cook" and in the "wow, how does he do that?" stage. A little Keller fairy dust would be fun. (hint.)

What do you make for yourself when you eat alone?

This is my big opportunity to eat the packaged and premade food that nobody else will eat with me -- the good (fancy ravioli), the bad (frozen pizza) and the ugly (Amy's frozen fake salisbury steak). Also I'll make a nice midwestern square meal: steak, broccoli, baked potato.

Craving fish and chips.

Anybody like Anchor & Hope, Woodhouse or Nettie's? Of those, I think Nettie's is my favorite - tasty batter, light. Great to sit outside, too, on a nice day. Also Town Hall's is quite good, though probably the most expensive on the list. Woodhouse is cheaper but greasier. I thought Weird Fish was way too greasy, but it might have been a bad day.

Ginger Goodness

Used to love Ting Ting Jahe - hot & sweet. Then they pulled out a filling, and I'm back to the overpriced yuppie chews. The packaging's not as cool, but they have great ginger flavor & no corn syrup camouflaged as maltose.

Save These Books

Interesting list - especially considering it's the most-requested (not, as some folks seem to think, somebody's idea of best). Does this mean that most people secretly wish food was just like it was in the 1950s and 1960s?

Hung Wins Top Chef

I thought the headline was funny. It's just a takeoff on how people have been talking about the contestants, including here on the boards -- will there be the first woman Top Chef? The first gay one?

Climbing Wine, Rolling Wine

Wish I'd been there with you tasting...this sounds fantastic. So did I get this right...brightness, complexity, and balance are in direct proportion to the altitude of the vineyard?

Roasted Baby Carrots with Marmalade

Love the sweet/sour/bitter thing. I didn't have the chives and it was great anyway!
