Biggest steak in L.A.?

Who has the biggest steak in the city? I heard there is a restaurant in Texas that has a 72-oz steak. Anything like that here?

California 2006 vintage?

My daughter was born in 2006 and I want to stash a couple bottles of that year to save for her when she graduates college or gets married. She is fifth-generation Californian, so I would really like buy California wine. However, there aren't many that can cellar for 20 years. (Phelps is a sentimental favorite of ours but I don't think it will last the journey.) Right now I am looking at Ridge Monte Bello and the Mondavi Cab Reserve. I am in Los Angeles, close to many great shops. Any suggestions? Thanks!

St. Arnold beer?

This is a craft beer from Texas that I am trying to find for a friend. Anybody have any ideas? I am in Studio City but will travel. Thanks!

Paso Robles Sangiovese?

I recently picked up Kris Curran's sangiovese, but I haven't opened it yet. Anyone tried it?

Unpretentious Paso Robles Wineries?

Zenaida, on the Westside just a few miles off 101 on the 46 is exactly what you describe. A few years ago I visited Justin (great wines, pretentious people/place) and they warned us that their wine club was nearing its limit of 10,000. When I asked the people at Zeniada about their club they said they were up to 280. I love that. www.zenaidacellars.com

organic/free range/grassfed meat - where do you buy?

The guy who sells sausages at the Saturday morning Virginia Park (on Pico) farmer's market and Sunday morning Beverly Hills FM, claims his stuff is organic and grass fed. I want to believe him. I buy his carne asada and while it is not cheap it grills beautifully.

Orin Swift Papillon

Has anyone had a chance to try this yet? I have enjoyed about every vintage of The Prisoner I have had, and have heard good things about their Cab although I have never had the pleasure.

Dining near Cerritos Center for Performing Arts?s

We are going to an 8:00 show at the Cerritos Center for Performing arts. Any recommendations for dining nearby? We are taking my mom and my niece, neither of whom are overly-adventurous eaters. Americana/steakhouse would be great. Thanks!

Weird Named Good Tasting Wines

"The Ball Buster" by Tait gets good reviews but I was not a fan.

Big, Bold Baddies: Concentrated, Fruit Forward Wines for the Fledgling Oenophile

I agree with you about the Boxer, but it seemed like it might be a good fit for the OPs wife.

Big, Bold Baddies: Concentrated, Fruit Forward Wines for the Fledgling Oenophile

Classic CH responses so far: All comments and not one suggestion. Here are mine: The Boxer by Mollydooker, Cycles Gladiator Syrah, any of the red wines by Four Vines other than the Old Vines Zin.

Rain: New Restaurant in Torrance. "It was raining french fries and good wine..."

Hilarious! Way to make the most of the situation. I hope you tipped well.

Arizona vineyards?

In Los Angeles, the radio station 103.1 does Wino Wednesdays, in which a local sommelier or wine maker brings in three bottles and they discuss them. This morning they had Maynard James Keenan, the lead singer from the bands Tool and A Perfect Circle come in and discuss a winery he is involved with in Arizona, Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars.

Fraiche, Providence & Foundry-- Must order?

Nice response, JohnVP

Name of Wine Made Off I-405 In LA Near Belair

I have long wanted to try Moraga but have not had the opportunity. Anyone have an opinion on the red?

Old Potrero Rye Whiskey: any in bars?

Ever since 7 Grand turned me onto rye Manhattans I have been looking for Rye in other bars, I can't find it anywhere and you'd be surrised at what I've been offered instead (Canadian Club at one place.) it is shocking at how little most bartenders know about whiskey/rye but they can all make an appletini..

Paso Robles wineries

I would stick to the Westside of the 101. I love the 46 West. Summerwood, Castorro, Zenaida, 4 Vines are all excellent. Adelaida is also terrific.

I love Justin wines and have been a member for years, but it is not worth the drive. The staff are snobby, I find the setting austere and it is so far off the beaten path it is a waste of time. Buy the wine, skip the winery.

Paso Robles Sangiovese?

"BTW, I had a great Sangiovese from California the other day"

What bottle was it?

Molten chocolate lava cake

Roy's of Hawaii has the standard by which all others are judged. Locations in Newport, Downtown LA or Woodland Hills.

Costco Wine Rec (Tustin Store)

I did not enjoy the Kirkland CdP.

Costco Wine Rec (Tustin Store)

I don't know about Tustin, but I have found Ferrari-Carano's Siena at various Costco's for about $18. That is a terrific wine.

Wilshire Restauant in Santa Monica

How packed does the bar get on weekend nights?

What happened to Astuce in Claremont?

I believe it is moving to the Packing House, the new area just West of the Village (Three Forks, Hip Kitty etc.) I am not sure when it is going to re-open, though.

Is it weird to drink Champagne by oneself?

Bill, I am here for you. I will help you knock that 4K down to several dozen by Easter. Just say when.

Wines for these four cheeses?

For the record, I enjoyed the one bottle of Bennett Lane Red Maximus (Bdx blend) that I had.

happy hour in Westwood?

I second Palomino

Red Car Wine Release

Haha! Wow, great reply.

The best wines I ever tasted...Swanson Vineyard

I love their Alexis, one of my first favorite wines. I also enjoy their Merlot. What else so they produce?

Valentino's New Vin Bar

It sounds good, but their online menu lists a glass of a certain wine for $18. It's a bottle I get from the winery for $12. That mark-up is insane.

Best Halloween-theme wine?

I am going to have a couple glasses of wine with some friends tonight after we get back from taking the kids trick-or-teating. What is an appropriate Halloween wine? I might bring over a bottle of The Phantom or maybe some Incognito Rouge (mask on the label.) Any other fun ideas?
