Quebec City for the weekend, recs?

I'm bumping my own thread as I'm guessing Quebec City questions don't get many responses?

I've narrowed down a few options:

Le Lapin Saute seem interesting for dinner?
le moine echanson seems reasonably price?
Le Cochon Dingue has some good reviews, but the website makes it looks like a really generic mass produce place.
Le Echaude looks like a good brunch.
Pain Beni, but I'm not usually a fan of a restuarant in a hotel, unless this is really good?
and Le Clocher Penche.

Any comments on any of these? I'm hoping these are pretty good places!

Quebec City for the weekend, recs?

Hi all!

I'm going to be in Quebec City for Easter weekend with my girfriend. We are both mid 30's. We are looking for some recommendations for a couple of dinner's, and breakfast/brunch also.

We are staying at the Delta. We are coming from Toronto.

Any good dinner recommendations? Quebecois fare would be good? We don't like it TOO rowdy, but a somewhere with a good/unique atmosphere, or just somewhere fairly romantic for dinner and a decent bottle of wine? We will eat anything, so aren't scared of trying anything different or unusual. Entree's around $20 to $30 maybe?

And also any reasonably priced brunch within walking distance from the hotel (15 minutes or so away is ok)? A greasy spoon type place, or just somewhere with a good brunch!

Thanks in advance!

Recs for breakfasts/cheap lunch/dinner needed

Well, I'm in Chicago tomorrow. I have a reservation at Sable for Friday dinner, excited about that. I'm also definitely going to check out Fox and Obel for breakfast, and do lunch at Portillo's, Purple Pig and Topolobampo. I'll play dinner a bit more by ear, see what comes up. Thanks for the recs :)

I wouldn't normally think of Mexican, but I'll definitely look those up! Sable is a place I've looked up, and sounds pretty interesting. The Purple Pig seems to be mentioned on this forum a lot, so I'm guessing is a fair farvourite?

Thanks for the detailed answer, that gives me a lot of options to start with :)

Recs for breakfasts/cheap lunch/dinner needed

Hi!

Coming to Chicago at the end of the month from Toronto with my girlfriend. We are both 35. We are staying at the Crown Plaza Avenues at 160 E Huron. We are staying 5 nights, so plenty of opportunity for good chow :)

We are looking for:

1. Breakfast recommendations. Close to the hotel. A good greasy spoon would be good for one or two mornings. Maybe a good diner type breakfast in the local area? Walking distance would probably be good.

2. Cheap but good lunch options. We are going to be walking a lot, seeing all the local sights, the Mag Mile, the loop area, I guess we need to see Cloud Gate too! Maybe decent sushi lunch? Or something that Chicago is renowned for (I think cheap but good hot dogs????).

3. We are looking for a couple of good dinner's. Now, I am not talking about the tourist places where you end up paying for a view, but the food is average (like, if you are coming to Toronto, I wouldn't send you to the to top the CN Tower...even though the view is great). We are looking for something gourmet, but affordable ($20 to $30 entree's). French Bistro maybe? As a point of reference, our favourite restaurants in other cities have been Le Select in Toronto, Gramercy Tavern in New York (front bar, super social, but great food), and L'Express in Montreal.

Thanks!

cheap decent eats near Columbus Circle

I think eating in the park will really depend on the weather more than anything else. If the weather is ok, that would be a great choice, for sure.

I looked at the menu and looks good! Thanks for that one!

cheap decent eats near Columbus Circle

Hi!

I'm coming to NYC with family in April from Toronto. We are staying at the Hudson Hotel at 58th and 8th Ave.

We are staying for a week, and from previous experiences in New York, I know it gets expensive eating out every day for a whole week!

Any suggestions for cheap eats (breakfast, lunch and dinner!) that are in walking distance of this hotel (seeing as my mother will be with me, and she probably wont' want to go too far afield from the hotel, especially in the evenings).

We eat all food types, so not fussy! Chinese, European, maybe a cheap deli type place for breakfast/brunch?

(for my one splurge night out, we are going to the Gramercy Tavern, as I love that place! and we will go for a couple of nice dinners otherwise...but I don't want to spend a fortune every day).

Thanks!

Dinner uptown/west/near the airport?

Thanks for those suggestions, I'm checking them out right now! I'd love to go to Kaji, its just justifying the money without there being a special occasion! I hear its amazing though?!

Dinner uptown/west/near the airport?

Hey!

I'm going to a function by the airport on Saturday. I booked a hotel by the airport for the weekend, so going up a day early on Friday night.

I usually eat ONLY downtown, but I'm looking for somewhere to take my S/O on Friday night on the way to the hotel.

I guess I'm looking for somewhere near the airport, or enroute to it...so I can drive to the restaurant, then onto the hotel afterwards.

I usually like places like The Wine Bar, Focaccia, Note Bene, Forte, Midi Bistro downtown...so I'm looking for something nice like that uptown or airport-ish area.

Suggestions? Something nice, mid-price, between downtown and the airport, or near the to airport?!

Thanks!

Ottawa Suggestions

Going to Ottawa from Toronto this coming weekend. My first visit to Ottawa.

I'm looking for some suggestions:

Dinner recommendations, we are staying at the Westin, so something close would be good. We like French Bistro type food. A place with good wine. Maybe a couple of different recommendations....one place a little more formal for Friday, and something more casual for Saturday night.

Also, recommendations for breakfast/brunch. A good greasy spoon in the local area!

Thanks.

eating alone in New York recs?!

Where did you go in the end???????

eating alone in New York recs?!

Thanks for all the replies so far! I've now got a long list of places to consider! Oh, I know that I'll never feel alone in NY, buy I always ask the locals where I should eat and drink....as they always know best! I don't believe in those horrible tourist-trap expensive joints....they are not for me!

eating alone in New York recs?!

Hi!

I'm flying in for a meeting from Toronto and need some recommendations as I'll be eating on my own for a couple of nights. I'm staying at the Hilton on 6th Ave and 54th. I've only been to New York once ever about 5 years ago so I really don't know Manhattan at all really.

I want to check out a couple of places that I won't be a complete loser eating on my own, and I'm not interested in the tourist spots. So, good sushi, maybe chinese? Or just somewhere I can hang out and watch the crowd and eat from the bar and maybe drink some wine and chill. Maybe a pub with good food and a nice atmosphere?!

Thanks for any replies!

First visit to Boston this weekend

Cool, thanks!

I would normally be looking for good expensive proper chow...! But with some family members in tow, who aren't so extravagant with their food, maybe I'll try Legal. I didn't know it was such a national chain though!

First visit to Boston this weekend

I've read something about Legal Seafood...is that just a crappy chain, or fairly decent? I see there is one close to the hotel.

First visit to Boston this weekend

Thanks for the suggestions all...a couple I will definitely look at. I especially like the sound of the close places suggested by Carty above. Thanks! I hope it will be a good weekend, I'm excited!

First visit to Boston this weekend

Hi all,

I'm coming to Boston this coming weekend with family. We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency downtown, and will have a 9 month old with us.

So, any recommendations? I have *no* idea what's on offer in Boston, so its a clean slate for me. We are looking for family friendly, reasonably priced (no high end unfortunately), maybe some decent seafood? How about a good breakfast/brunch joint? Where should I NOT miss on one visit to Boston? One last point, location is key as we will have no transport and fairly limited due to the infant, so fairly close to the hotel might be good.

Thanks in advance.
Ryan (from Toronto).

Winterlicious 2008

Made a couple of reservations already with Amex.

Can anybody get through to C5?????? I just get a "This mailbox is full" messege. Grrrrr!

Winterlicious 2008

Anybody thinking about Winterlicious this year? I know its a sore point with some people on here, but I always enjoy the event!

My pick so far looks to be C5. I haven't had a chance to go yet, so this is a good opportunity to check out the new venue. My other picks include Vertical, Globe Bistro, and also Brassaii looks interesting (although it seems to have mixed reviews on here?!).

Burrito Boyz - disastrous visit

Wow...bad reviews for the Boyz?

I've never had a bad experience at BB'z...always excellent, always fast service. In fact, my favourite Toronto "thing" is to grab a Buritto Boyz and go the the movie theatre and gulp it down at the back of the movie.....heaven! :D

TO street food c/o Alphabet City Festival

With the change in legislation reguarding Street Food recently, these events really need more organisation! No More Hotdogs!

Has anybody seen ANY new food types on Toronto's street since the law change???? :s

Baby friendly restaurants downtown?

I think I'll check out Romania Mia....yes I'm sure the food has got to be better that the Spag Factory :p

Baby friendly restaurants downtown?

Hey all!

My sister is coming into town next week with her 5 month old baby girl awww!). She wants to eat out a few times...but I haven't got a clue where to take her, and baby!

Any recommendations for baby friendly restaurants in the downtown area? I live at College and Yonge. I'm looking for fairly cheap places, nothing fancy at all. I thought of the Old Spaghetti Factory, as I'm sure I read somewhere that its very "family friendly". Any other idea???

Thanks in advance! :)

southern cuisine in the Toronto Area?

Definitely Southern Accent.

Also try Big Daddy's on King Street (not as quality as Accents, but it has the right food you are looking for).

Great Fall Drives and Food

How about a drive to Fergus to eat at the Breadalbaine Inn? You could do a walk around Elora Gorge or check out St. Jacobs while you are there? Great food and good walks....seems to fit your bill!

C5...lounge?

The new C5 at the ROM....is it a lounge as well as a resto? I'm heading to Yorkville tonight (Matignon for dinner) and wondered if C5 is somewhere I could go for a drink? Or is it strictly dinner only?

Horsemeat

La Palette in Kensington market has horse for both apetizer and mains. I haven't tried it, but that's probably a good downtown choice.

Montreal next weekend

Right...so far I've made a reservation for L'express....and I think I'm tempted enough by au Pied de cochon to make one there too.

There goes my cholesterol again :p
