Le Saint-Amour...excellent food, service and atmosphere...tres romantique, en plus!!

I saw your post too late to reply, but I hope you will go back to QC; I visit every year, myself! For your return visit, try Le Saint-Amour...I had a blueberry creme brulee there this past summer that was the best dessert I have ever eaten and trust me, I have eaten plenty of desserts! We also enjoyed Le Patriarche, each course prepared three ways...fun concept! For a snack, give poutine a try at Chez Ashton..I am a convert and would never leave QC without stopping there! If you get a chance to go a little further north next time, we had a wonderful visit in the Charlevoix region...Le Mouton Noir in Baie St Paul was fun and an unexpected treat!

the Lobster Shack is a great choice and the location is unbeatable. In Portland, I like Fore Street for dinner; Becky's is fun for breakfast. I am an annual visitor to Quebec City so I am going to find your link and post on that board....

Hi there; I had dinner at Aux Anciens Canadiens two years ago and loved it. I know it is not a popular choice among chowhounds, but I really enjoyed the good, old-fashioned Quebecoise specialties. I didn't find the setting to be cheesy at all; I thought it was charming! I am leaving for Quebec tomorrow morning; this time I will be having dinner at Le Patriarche, lunch at Le Saint Amour and snacking on poutine at Chez Ashton. Heading north of the city after two days; really looking forward to the Mouton Noir in Baie-St-Paul!

I am looking for a nice restaurant in the New London area that serves dinner on Thanksgiving. A waterview would be nice, but not mandatory. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Just read your post and maybe I am too late, but my husband and I had an excellent dinner at Wilfrid's last month (Aug 09). We spent a week in Canada and dined at the Terrapin Grille, Niagara, Canoe and Lai Wah Heen, Toronto, Wilfrid's in Ottawa, Jardin Nelson and Gibby's in Montreal. Wilfrid's was the best dinner we had! I had the osso bucco and LOVED it; my husband had a different veal dish and is still talking about it. I recommend Wilfrid's for your special occasion!

My husband and I will be attending an event at the New England Historic Genealogical Society (99 Newbury St) and would like to have dinner afterward, within walking distance. We are open to all cuisines, from casual to fine dining.

I like Jimmy's Pub in Mansfield. In fact, I had dinner there last night. Been going there for years and the food is always good, with a fun atmosphere (I prefer to eat in the bar area because it's lively and upbeat). I love their Monte Cristo sandwich, but I don't order it very often since it is such a decadent treat. If you like Chinese, Cheng Du (also in Mansfield) is nice.

I am very curious about the Sea Swirl. Tell us more!

I too have fond memories of the clam strips at HOJOs although I am firmly in the clambelly club now. I agree with all the Ipswich Clam Box recommendations. As for the lobster rolls, if you take about a 15 minute detour off rte 95 (via 495 E) to Norton, MA, there is a little joint called Emma's. I had an awesome lobster roll there about a week ago, which rivaled the best one I ever had, at a quaint harborside spot in Stonington, Maine (forgot the name, if I ever knew it in the first place!)

Sorry I missed your Thursday deadline, but I wanted to give some input for your next trek to Ptown: I love the Fairway in Eastham, right on rte 6. Excellent pizza and ribs. Comfortable, casual, reasonable prices. My husband and I eat there often on Friday nights. We prefer to eat in the bar since our own kids are grown now and we prefer a more relaxed, adult atmosphere when we dine out The bar is small, but fun because the locals are very friendly and everyone feels welcome. Another recommendation: we often take the slow road back home after a Cape weekend. Try rte 6A sometime and stop at the Scargo Cafe in Dennis for lunch (dinner is great, too, but more pricey, of course) and make sure you finish with their phenomenal grapenut pudding. You will not be sorry!

Coincidentlally, I will also be in Williamstown this Saturday, visiting my son. The young "sophisticate", soon to be a Williams grad, will definitely opt for Friendlys, and I am sorry to say, there aren't many other options. I will second the post for the Thai restaurant on Spring St. I have never been because I am not a big fan of Thai food, but if you are, it will fit the bill for a relaxed, chatty lunch. Williamstown is absolutely beautiful, but sadly, the gastronomic choices are sorely lacking! I have been to Mezze and Jae's Inn (in nearby North Adams) for dinner. Both were quite good, actually, but I do not know if either does lunch. Have a great visit out in the beautiful Berkshires!

How do folks feel about the restaurants with a view? I know the prices are high and perhaps the food suffers because the view is "king", but there's just something special about dining with a view of twinkling city lights! I am wondering about Canoe, 360, others?

Yes, I am planning early because I have booked a room at the Renaissance the night the Red Sox are in town. I figured I would do my restaurant research early, reserve everything now and then just settle back and look forward to it all!

Van Rensaleers in Wellfleet is good for steaks and seafood, with an expansive salad bar; they also do breakfast. I have been disappointed with the Bookstore over the last year or so, and had a very unsatisfactory meal at Finely JPs but maybe it was an aberration...went to Wicked Oyster and the parking situation was miserable...we drove around for 15 minutes or so waiting for a space to open up and then the meal was so-so (and this was during off-season, the parking lot is simply unacceptably small and there is no street parking allowed in this area) Outside of Wellfleet, I love the pizza at the Fairway, just down the road in Eastham. Other people rave about their ribs but I haven't tried them. For a more romantic dinner, I like the Beacon in Orleans. When in Ptown, I usually end up at the Lobster Pot. They have a house salad dressing that I am completely addicted to..some sort of garlicky concoction. The outer Cape is beautiful any time of year...enjoy!!

My husband will be celebrating his 60th birthday this summer and when asked where he would like to go, he chose Toronto! SInce we are also celebrating our youngest child's college graduation and the last of the tuition bills, I have decided to expand the Toronto trip into a "Canadian Odyssey". We will spend one night in Niagara Falls, two in Toronto, one in Ottawa and two in Montreal. I am trying to come up with a variety of cuisines. We are looking for some fine dining, some local ambiance, and we are open for an adventure! This is what I am thinking so far: Niagara Falls/Terrapin Grille; Toronto/Lai Wah Heen (we are staying at the Renaissance to catch a Sox game..my husband is a Boston guy..and so I figured we could walk to Lai Wah Heen early and get back to the hotel to watch the game at 7. Would that work?); Ottawa/Wilfrid's; Montreal /Au Pied de Cochon(I guess I should go to another board for that). I am not "married" to the choices I have made so far. I will appreciate any help anyone can give me. I really want this to be a special trip!

My favorite is Sol Azteca in Newton, MA. By the way, I have a related question. Does anyone know anything about Coyote Flaco which may or may not be in Williamstown, but if not, is right outside the town. I pass it whenever I am out that way and since I love Mexican food, I've always wondered if it is any good. I am planning one more trip out there before my son graduates from college, so I'd really appreciate any info anyone has on this place!

I limit myself to a big plate of fried clams with bellies just once a year! Usually in the summer, either in Ipswich. MA or on Cape Cod. I am also crazy for poutine, but will not eat it outside of Quebec City. I just won't cross that line!
