Fun food experience?

I'm looking for someplace to celebrate a birthday (small group of adults and a couple of kids) on labor day. I'm looking for someplace that will be different and fun (not Dave and Buster's fun). It can be out of the city, but not too far because we don't want to get involved in holiday traffic. We've done Korean bbq, taquerias, Vietnamese, Marrekesh (sp), Hardena, etc. No ethnic group is out of the running. What about the Southern Indian place in the 'burbs or one of those over-the-top Russian places?

Jenkintown/Abington/Glenside/Willow Grove

Thanks Sylviag. I'll look into Moonstruck.

Soft shell crabs in Philly

Heading to Roller's Friday night. Thanks!

I'll answer my own question -- Flying Fish for soft shell crabs!

Anyone tried authentic Korean -- Che Ju Do ?

I'm sorry, but ewwwww.

I feel like this is beating a dead horse, and I know it's been covered, but I'm looking for a quiet, nice (not bar/restaurant) for dinner with my 86 year-old mom. Is there anything other than York 211 or do I need to go to Chestnut Hill (thinking Flying Fish). Sounds like Marco Polo gets mixed reviews, we've done Trevi (which is very good)....how about Pub Kitchen?

Does lemon juice go bad?

"Real Lemon" brand. Ha ha. Used balsamic instead.

Does lemon juice go bad?

The bottle reads "best used by Nov. 15, 2006." It's been in the fridge. I'm thinking since it's so acidic it's ok. It smells ok. I want to use it in a salad dressing. Thoughts?

How about Wine Thief?

Corned Beef Special Near Chestnut Hill

Good to know. I've never had their sandwiches, but their other food, especially their soups are great.

Corned Beef Special Near Chestnut Hill

Any idea where I can get a Corned Beef Special to go in or near CH without traveling to Bala Cynwyd?

Near 12th and Sansom

My pizza-adverse friend bailed, so I went to Zavino. Grabbed a seat at the bar and enjoyed a couple glasses of Merlot and a wonderful butternut squash soup. Had the Margherita pizza. Enjoyed the sauce, but found the crust to be doughy. The cheese was a minor player/ All in all, a pleasant respast on a cold night.

Near 12th and Sansom

Tomorrow night. I KNOW there are tons of places. Maybe we'll just wander the streets.

Near 12th and Sansom

That's where I would go, dining partner doesn't think pizza is special enough. Pizza is the food of the gods, if you ask me.

Near 12th and Sansom

See, I forgot about Garces...been to Kanella and my dining companion is not a sushi eater. Thanks.

Near 12th and Sansom

I know there are a ton of places...I'm looking for kind of casual within walking distance for dinner. Looking for someplace I haven't been (so that rules out Barbuzzo, Lolita, El Vez, The Dandelion, Good Dog, Oyster House). It doesn't have to be a new place, there are probably plenty of standards I've missed. Let 'er rip...

Is Sang Kee in Cherry Hill open?

I also had the shrimp dumpling noodle soup a month or so ago. The broth was like dishwater. Very sad.

Crock Pot Brisket for a mob

I was thinking of doing something similar. Sear the meat (several 3lb pieces), put them in an aluminum roasting pan with onions, carrots and water, cover tightly cand cook for several hours.

Crock Pot Brisket for a mob

Although I'm not much of a cook, I'm always tapped to make the Hanukkah brisket for about 12 people. Since I have access to two crock pots larger than my largest pots, I though I would try crock pots this year. Normally I pan sear the brisket after rubbing it with seasonings, remove it from the pot, brown onions and carrots and return the meat to the pot with water. At what point should I move the meat to the crock pot? After browning the onion and carrots? Any suggestions for making crock pot brisket would be appreciated, including how much brisket to buy for 12 people with leftovers.

Make Ahead Profiteroles

Should I line the cookie sheet with parchment paper? Grease and flour?

Make Ahead Profiteroles

Hi. I want to make profiteroles for a work party. The party is on Thursday, but the only time I have to make the puff sis on Tuesday. Will they keep? Should I freeze them? I'm not much of a cook, so any choux paste or profiterole advice is welcome.

Restaurant Thankgiving in South Jersey

Looking for restaurant within a 20 mile radius of Cherry Hill for a small Thanksgiving group. Thanks

Anyone eat kiwi with the skin?

I've never eaten a kiwi with the skin on, but one easy way to eat the fruit is to cut it in half and scoop out the insides with a spoon.

Chow Challenge

Terrific recipes paulji --Thanks!

Chow Challenge

Hi Bushwickgirl, About the the butternut squash -- I can't help but mention I grew those -- the kale, too. I like to garden. Cooking, not so much.

Chow Challenge

I was afraid of that..

Chow Challenge

Thanks Terri -- that sounds doable! (is doable a word?)

Chow Challenge

And how, exactly, will that happen?

Chow Challenge

It's a snowy day here in Philadelphia and this is what I have on hand: two large butternut squash, a few fist-full of lacinato kale, one beet, two potatoes, cooked cannellini beans and the basics: salt, pepper, 3/4 head garlic, olive oil, butter and some grains. I don't like to cook, but this hodgepodge of ingredients is looking for a (easy, simple) recipe. Can use any or all of the aforementioned ingredients. What say you?
