Where to eat during the Bushwick Open Studios?

Thanks for this info which I am cutting and pasting immediately into my planner.

Where to eat during the Bushwick Open Studios?

I need to find a couple of places spaced out across this art crawl.
I only know of one so far. I know I'm going to need more breaks for sweets and drinks if I'm going to last the whole day.

I went to Bushwick Fireproof for an art event I smelled the burger of heaven.

I had to go back for another art event and in the back of mind I wasn't thinking, "Oh, I'll see some good art." I was thinking, "Oh, I can finally get that burger!"

It was superb.
This is an excellent burger. It came with avocado and jalapeno and was perfectly cooked on bun that was fresh (I've been getting a lot of dried out buns elsewhere lately). The fries were perfection. The optional salad was arugula with balsamic and salt in just the right proportions.

The prices were very reasonable price.

Sitting outside at the picnic tables on a lovely evening was delightful.

I drug my husband out there and he usually hates leaving his routine -- come home, go to local place, watch Big Bang Theory -- but he really had a great time. He completely enjoyed himself.

The art event was the Bushwick Artists Crit Group and it's a slide-jpg show with the artist explaining their work and taking questions. It was completely entertaining.

Outside they had the waterfall rain swing sculpture.

So we had dinner and a show for two + three beers and three top shelf drinks for $60.

It was a wonderful night.

I recommend Bushwick Fireproof .

Bought a Hobart Kitchen Aid 4C Stand Mixer on eBay - was it a mistake?

Standmixer Attachments

Do not use the KGMA, KPEXTA or SNFGA with stand mixer models 3C, 4C and 3B due to the extra wear and tear they place on the motor.

I asked the company about the attachments that fit in front under that little silver plate and they said all the attachments fit all the models.

The only bummer is I don't want to make sausage or coleslaw.
I wish they had an attachment for something I needed to do like juice carrots.

But I love my 4-c. It's just the best for cookies and it is pretty strong. I put the butter in their cold, in chunks, and it beats it to softened.

Smoker. Is it worth it?

Thank you for this trick for smoking and containing smoke and for the reminder that the smoke could bother the neighbors. Mind you, I smell their Caribbean entrails cooking but I still don't want to be the bad guy.

Smoker. Is it worth it?

These replies have been a huge help to me. They've made me realize I don't have any such safe place. I'm in Asbury Park, NJ where the houses are as little as little as six feet apart. I have a small yard, an uneven, loose laid brick patio, wooden fences and a wooden house...and wind. Thanks for helping me face this impracticality.

What are the safety features that allow you to leave the fire unattended all night.

I want to get this for my husband but I'm such a girl scout about fire safety.

Geneva's Soul Food - Asbury Park, NJ

716 Bangs Avenue 732-988-7279

Excellent fried chicken, grits all day, very sweet tea and salty collards (as is appropriate), affable service, beautiful display of stack cakes but the food portions are so big you won't have room for desert.

No liquor license.

Try and get there before church let's out. It gets crowded.
It's just a little diner and lunch counter.

Asbury Park Culinary School - I've heard really nice things about eating there.

A friend told me that they expect all the students to learn every aspect of the restaurant business so they have them act as wait staff, buss tables, manage the dining room, etc as well as learning the culinary side.

We're only there on weekends so I'm pretty disappointed too. I really would like to experience some decent service in Asbury Park.

Asbury Park Culinary School - I've heard really nice things about eating there.

I've heard people say the food and service are wonderful although the decor isn't much and it's bright so bring a bottle of wine and keep your sunglasses on and it's fabulous.

I've found some info. but no reviews. Maybe because it's not open on weekends?

GriggsO

I used this instead of jello and evaporated milk for the Bleeding Heart recipe and it worked great and tasted much, much better.
Here's the video from facebook.

need to buy white grits...where????

You know who used to carry Hoppin' John grits in the refrigerator section -- and this just adds another layer of sorrow -- is Kurowycky. Man, I miss that place.

Hoppin' John grits are excellent. Very aromatic by comparison to Quaker. I also like Anson Mills. I do not like Red Mills. Their grits are yellow and probably geared more for polenta.

In NYC you can often sit down for a breakfast of grits and baco nat Puerto Rican diners.
