Best Pastrami Sandwich Joint in SF?

6 mo. ago I moved back to SF after a 5 yr stint in West LA. While PPQ, Burma Superstar and my other assorted faves have made my tummy happy...I just now was overcome by a wave of hunger for a big ass pastrami sandwich that would bring me to the brink of cardiac arrest while a grad student in LA. I'm talking 6 inches tall, greasy, yummy authentic jewish pastrami sandwich on rye. I wouldnt mind some chopped liver and gribenes on the side to go with it. Where do I have to go!?

South Street in Westwood ...

I have yet to have a good experience at South Street. In fact, from the 3 or 4 times that I have been there, I feel that South Street should be sued by the City of Philly for misrepresentation and in general, giving philly cheesesteaks a bad name. Maybe I'm too hard on them, but I really really really think their sandwiches are terrible

On the other hand, Philly West is awesome and less than 5 min. away on Westwood and Santa Monica.

Anything to eat near The Bridge?

Kabuki at the Bridge is good. They're inexpensive and the sushi may not be Sasabune level, but the best sushi for the price. Dinah's is good for breakfast, other than that, haven't tried anything else except the fried chicken (which is decent, but not awesome)

Best Cheesesteak in L.A?

I can't believe people suggested South Street!! That place is terrible. Philly West on the other hand is fantastic. A little known secret though is the grill to order at UCLA's hospital cafeteria...big rolls, good steak, provolone, bell peppers, mushrooms and grilled onions. But Philly West is the winner so far, though I personally am still looking for better
