Thanks for the early post - in the past we usually heard about this after the event.

Sunnyside Pizza-EXCELLENT!!

Haven't been there in a long time - is it still world class?
If so, it would be even more class if they might expand!

Yes,thanks also for this posting!

I seem to recall previous years postings were 24hr or so after the event - useful only for stomach cramps.

Have You Seen this Queens List???

The pork-crab dumplings at JOE'S SHANGHAI are simply outstanding and NOT greasy at all.

Sunnyside: The Dog and Duck and Bliss 46 Bistro

I think the corned beef and cabbage at BUTCHER'S BLOCK is usually only THURSDAYS? - It's pretty good, 1 serving is enough for two people. I find if you get there much after 7pm they've run out of cabbage for some reason!

Neerob reviewed in the Times.

I wouldn't worry too much. The experience is that NYT reviews for outer boroughs have only trivial impact.

Ate at Italian restaurant this weekend and they only offered bottled water - sparkling or flat

I have made a comment earlier BUT can we clarify if the $7 stuff is real - my memory was a buck or two (mind you I object in any case if I ask for our outstanding tap water in NYC and am denied-btw has anybody noticed that EVIAN water at least in the USA is absolutely vile).
As I say,the store is nice, good value, there is an excellent, reasonably priced lunch menu, the misquided Taliban really run a superb kitchen. So I am a bit sympathetic - tell them to go F..themselves on the water but bring fine food. For fine food, they really do nicely

Ate at Italian restaurant this weekend and they only offered bottled water - sparkling or flat

Astonished at the $7 stuff - it used to be $1 I think?
There's some other bullshit there as well - no PARMESAN on the pasta with seafood!
And the Batali BS - lay off the sauce on the pasta!
All 3 are BS - easy on the sauce was a reflection of the poverty when especially meat-based sauces were beyond people's means and reflected no fundamental culinary genius.
The Parmesan - I need to Google. The bottled water - they are real asses.
Note: I like this place alot but they are not doing all that well and why they are doing this mental masturbation in the slightly scary place they're located in is really stupefying.
Anyway,I secrete my water and as another CH said get wine.
It's a fine place, struggling,so try and get over this North Korean bent and have a nice time.
BTW,there have Opera one night each week and also specials which are good value.

Where is the Basement Food Court Entrance for New World Mall?

Amazing after 6 months or more there is no signage for the Mall at the Main Street entrance

Anyway, you enter on Roosevelt, just go east 50 yards or so from Main Street - Macy's is a short distance beyond!

Did Taqueria Tulcingo close down?

What's your favorites there?

I went there mainly to check out the fish tacos which I found kind of bland, the portion size small and I think $8-9 which is not great value.

Did Taqueria Tulcingo close down?

What time were you there?

They close quite early 6 or 7pm if I remember correctly.

I was there 2 weeks ago and business was fine.

El Shater sunnyside - moving to Astoria

Wow!! People here at not exaggerating when they tell you the $3.50 Chicken or Beef Shawarma is delicious and plentiful amount of food and it must must be right at the top for best bang for the buck anywhere in NYC.
The POST title perhaps is misleading people? - I'm referring to the reincarnation SOUK EL-SHATER 43-03 QUEENS BLVD.

Salt and Fat in Sunnyside

The fried chicken is really outstanding,delicious-I have doubts if there is anything better in NYC. But the dressing is really the icing on the cake - please post the famous dressing recipe.
I PROMISE we'll still dine at least as often as before!

Sunnyside Pizza-EXCELLENT!!

I know there has been quite a few good reports on this place scattered amongst the posts.

Even with the positive reports I was unsure - too many disappointments in Sunnyside.

Now,I've been there about a dozen times - my review is a bit paltry limited only to experiences with slices bit the experience has really been stellar.

The pizza has a lovely sesame seed crust - super light but not as skinny as Pintaile's in Manhattan which I love. They're always making specials [slices no more than $3.50] and it seems to me everything is blazingly fresh and their veg pizzas are great.

Another thing that suggests to me that they take their business serious - I made an off hand remark to one of the guys that I thought they were a great addition to the neighborhood with their spectacular pizza and he was so proud and i observed he went to the back of the little place to tell the toilers there of the compliment.

He told me as well they are always making 'specials" depending on what's available and I've had a few which were really exceptional [$3.50] and nearly a meal.

Salt and Fat in Sunnyside

Thanks. the branzino is really a masterpiece for delicious.

Man, the fried chicken is also revolutionary good. Not just the crusted portion but somehow deep the flavor and delight is near magical. A triumph.

Just wanted to balance the $$ issue with the fine dining experience!

They're not wasting time in jacking up the prices - eg., the branzino (which all the times I've had is smallish} has gone from $15 to $18!

GOURMET QUESADILLAS UNDER THE 7 TRAIN STATION AT 46TH/QUEENS BLVD!

pgunn - they reappeared in I think late May and were there until about 10 days ago (I actually did another little write-up here about a month ago) - I was dining nearly daily there the stuff was so good.
The great lady didn't seem to be getting much business so maybe that's why she's gone now or maybe it was a problem with the cart license - I think there was a question about that last year.

EXCELLENT MEXICAN - UNDER THE 7 LINE AT 46TH

Finally,Sunnysiders have an excellent MEXICAN food cart so no need for travel to Wooside/Jackson Heights.

I overhear that the lady doing the food is from Jalisco which is good!

I can only comment so far on the quesadillas - immensely excellent!

Not your ordinary from the street stuff - really gourmet, everything exceedingly fresh, beautiful spiced, lovely presented.
Huitlacoche quesadillas amazing -$3, pastor, pollo also great.

Of course she does lots of other things - I'm looking forward to check out the tortas.

Please check out this great new place and the nice lady and write her up if you feel it is deserving.

Guide to the New World Mall Food Court

Thanks - was there Wednesday and tried to find the food court from the MAIN ST entrance - only cul de sac despite the sign-posting!! The Chinese certainly never disappoint - all it would take was a sign saying ENTRANCE ON ROOSEVELT!
On the top floor there's a mighty gigantic new restaurant which looks phenom - just gawking at the tables as i passed by. Seems really great but alot of stuff rather pricey - anyone been there yet?

Sripraphai - Not overrated

I don't go far from the well tested stuff -the really brilliant crispy watercress...the pork leg [C-15], the roasted duck though I abhor thai eggplant which is similar to golf ball for texture and taste.
Anyway, last week I decided to check out the Sauté Seafood [C-17]. A big disappointment, an ugly brownish sauce and bits of fish fillet really tasteless, a few shrimp, and some mussels overcooked. Lots of heat in the sauce but no complexity.
-I've had something that's kind of similar at CENTER POINT - one block down or west - and really lovely, squid, mussels, shrimp done perfectly-way better that SRI although a little more heat might be better.
-I think unless one has inside info it's best to stick with the true and tested stuff. I find experimentation with items that have not been highlighted here and Yelp etc quite risky.
There's so much crap on the menu - they should probably try to scale down the menu and ensure everything is excellent.

Lunch options in Jamaica by library?

I think there are a couple of South Asian places on Hillside 3-4 blocks from Merrick that were well reviewed here in the past - one I think is called GHOREA.

M. Wells Dinner

No need at all for distress - the impact of NYT reviews or TIMEOUTNY etc is a few days...Salt and Fat in Sunnyside opened 2 weeks ago and there was a table wait - not at all now. Same for Sripraphai and Spicy & Tasty - NYT reviews were almost without any impact.

Yes,it's a bit curious but I think correctly people pay a bit more attention to their friends opinions and local feedback from lots of locations especially places like YELP and CHO. NYT critics have no budget restraints so if you're not in that category their reviews are not very useful.

CURRY POINT[new sunnyside]

I see now it's about a year since the first posting.

While I cannot say it's going strong business-wise, it has gone from quite good to quite excellent in the subsequent months.

The opening screw-ups over orders (never screw-ups IMO in food quality) are very long gone. The place is downright consistent now high-quality. Prices are outstanding, food portions for take-out are the best in NYC.

And, there is lamb, lamb chops and seafood options at about $10 - far better in amount and quality than anywhere else.

Just thought I would make this new year addendum as I think this place merits a place on the list of superior eats in SUNNYSIDE.

Yum Yum Thai Restaurant in Sunnyside

The LUNCH is a good deal [5.99$] and the portions are generous. I have tried several of the lunch specials - chicken, shrimp....panang, red curry ] and all were fine. Overall a super deal for the price.

Eating in Yankee Stadium / Bronx County Courthouse Area

Thanks for giving precise info and getting the name of the place correct.
Surely not WEST however, it's EAST and south unless I'm severely direction challenged.
Fair play to you as well if you so love "total salt and grease load" - this is certainly not FAUZIA'S IMHO and I have major allergy to grease and salt!!
I hope people will not be discouraged by this totally incorrect characterization.

Glad the Feeding tree experience was OK - I have found it a bit or very greasy.

There is a really stellar food cart - I think it's called FAUTIVA - do a search and if you don't find get back to me.

It's on 161st I think one block south from Grand Concourse (down the hill) - the lady from Jamaica has everything already home cooked - all the great Jamaican stuff real genuine - great jerk chicken - some days only but the chicken stew is also superb - alot of fine and totally non-greasy stuff vegetables, spinach, collard freens, beans..signifant portions I think a small portion is about $5 and a large $8 enough for a happy two unless you'e a glutton. This lady should open a restaurent or if the Wankees were respectful she'd have a spot at the stadium. Thank god not so the prices are not 4x higher.
