Brickell Ave business dinner options?

We went to River Oyster Bar tonight and the food and service were both excellent - made it in just in time to catch the half-price oysters and wine specials at happy hour!

Brickell Ave business dinner options?

3 female business travelers spending 2 weeks at the JW Marriott on Brickell, looking for good dinner options either walking distance or short cab ride. I'm out of date on what's good there now. I know there is a MOrton's basically across the street, but we're really more interested in quality local options and not steakhouse fare or chains. So, suggestions or even reliable "best of miami" lists would be appreciated! Thanks!

French Laundry alternatives?

Thanks. We do want to stay in Napa or Sonoma, we do not want to go into SF for dinner. Ideally a multi-course menu with wine pairings, but open to other options with excellent food and a good wine program - no picky eaters in the group.

French Laundry alternatives?

TFL will be closed for renovation when we are visiting, so we are looking for alternative suggestions. We will be a group of 6 staying in a Glen Ellen, and we have one night set aside for an "experience" meal, which we thought would be TFL, but now we are starting over on the plan for that night!

40th Birthday dinner/girls night out

We have an annual girls' trip over Labor Day weekend and are looking for a restaurant for dinner that Friday night. Staying in midtown, but are fine with venturing out as we know options for what we are looking for will be fairly limited in that area.

Looking for something fun/energetic as we will grab cocktails at the bar, but nothing that feels like we've gone to an NYC nightclub, and nothing that tends to the more formal side. Last year on the same trip, we went to Stanton Social and enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but it was a little too loud and the crowd a little too young (our group is late 30's, with one turning 40). We did Scarpetta the year before and it was a little too quiet. Some options that have been suggested to us include The Dutch, Empellon, and Tertulia. Are those good options, and what else should we be considering?

Restaurant Suggestions for Quick Trip

We stay at that Westin and at the St. Regis on business trips and some of my colleagues have been going to breakfast at the place next to Peet's on Mission @ 3rd, I think it is called The Grove. Haven't tried it myself but they were satisfied with it. If you were going to pay hotel restaurant prices, go to the restaurant on the 4th floor at the St. Regis - not a bargain, but delicious and I have regularly seen families in there in addition to business travelers.

Last Night at Perbacco

I have to think they are doing ok - my colleagues and I travel to San Fran for business regularly, and we can always all agree on Perbacco, and it is always full when we go. Our dinners are consistently excellent, and we have some very picky people in the group. The quail and the duck are always excellent, and when they have a pork chop, it can be a standout as well. Love the caramel gelato, as well as the "ugly but good" cookies - great with after-dinner coffee. It has remained my favorite meal over the course of the last year.

Fifth Floor since the Manrique departure?

We had a group of 7 there for a business dinner tonight. The restaurant was half empty and yet the service was still terrible. Half our group sat at the table for 10 minutes with no offer of cocktails, the rest arrived and we all sat another 10 or 15 minutes before having to tackle someone for drinks, and then the drinks came and were terrible, and the ones with flat soda were replaced only begrudgingly!

When the food came, half of us had good but not great meals, and a couple of people had affirmatively terrible meals. We will not be going back.

In Desperate Need of Fine Dining Restaurants for Business Dinner in SF (Near Convention Center)

Ame is far better than Fifth Floor. We had a similar business dinner at FIfth Floor tonight and it was disastrous. Horrible service, bad cocktails (that when we reported the vodka sodas tasted like predominantly water and were flat the response was "I don't believe that but I'll have them remake them), and 50/50 on good meals and bad meals at the table.

Too bad Perbacco is closed the night you need it - it consistently pleases our very picky and opinionated group! Boulevard is excellent as well if they could accomodate you. One Market was ok, definitely better than Fifth Floor by a mile! We've actually had several good meals at XYZ at the W Hotel also, and we expected not to like it because it is in the W but were pleasantly surprised. Alexander's had good food but was very pretentious (they started off with a long spiel about how elegant they consider themselves to be, and many in our group still chuckle about it -- we are here just about every month so we are making the rounds!).

Sunday dinner near the Sofitel

I need a restaurant suggestion that is open for dinner on Sundays, walking distance from the Sofitel (15th near Lafayette Square). My first thought was BLT Steak, and it is closed on Sundays, and my next thought was Ceiba, but it is also closed on Sundays. Is J&G at the W a good alternative or are there better choices close by? Thanks!

If we like Perbacco, Boulevard, and similar, what else to try?

Great - thanks so much for the recommendations - I'll check these out!

If we like Perbacco, Boulevard, and similar, what else to try?

We have a group regularly travelling to San Fran on business, and the client is big on going to dinner every single night, and it is almost always 5 or so people, so reservations are a must and we're running out of options to try without always going back to the same spots!

Perbacco and Boulevard are examples of places that have been big hits, and we like to be able to walk from the hotel or occasionally a short cab ride (St. Regis or Palace, usually). We had a good meal at XYZ at the W last week as well, but La Mar was ok but not great.

Having moderately casual options to add to the mix would also be nice as huge meal night after night gets old. Client is not terribly adventurous in terms of food type so we have to stay fairly mainstream.

What are some other places we should put on the list to try? Thanks!

Christmas dinner to go options?

Last year we got a fantastic "Christmas dinner to go" meal from Murphy's in Va-Hi. - it had a turkey breast, soup, salad, dressing, gravy and dessert. The dressing was so good that we had to go back on Christmas day and get another pan of it! But this year they changed up the menu to ham and potatoes au gratin instead of turkey and dressing, and we are a turkey and dressing family.

Does anyone have suggestions for other restaurants or caterers offering a "Christmas to go" option?

Thoughts on Atlanta Steakhouses.

If you are willing to drive intown, Kevin Rathbun Steak is by far my favorite, and their sides are amazing. If you don't want to go quite that far, I also agree that Hal's serves a fantastic meal and I would definitely choose either of those places over Prime.

Christmas dinner in Atlanta

Most of the hotels in town are likely to have something - St. Regis, Ritz Carlton Buckhead, Intercontinental, etc . . . but there are restaurants that should be open also.

Don't know how far into town you are willing to drive but Murphy's in Virginia-Highlands has a wonderful Christmas dinner. Also, Ruths Chris in Sandy Springs tends to be open on holidays and serves both its regular menu and a holiday menu with more traditional fare.

Cheap catering

FYI, I've used the Taqueria del Sol catering before and they did a great job - the food turned out great and my total was surprisingly low. People were taking home to-go plates!

inexpensive, good, and unique to Atlanta places?

I can suggest some reliable options, but downtown is not really a dining destination for locals, hence the shortage of unique/charming/standout restaurants to recommend -- they just don't get a lot of support downtown, so they locate elsewhere. When my office was downtown, Azio's on International Blvd. was a regular stop and had consistently good basic Italian offerings -- think thin-crust pizzas, variety of pastas, etc . . . Hsu's on the corner of International and Peachtree Center Blvd. was another reliable choice if you like Chinese. Ray's in the City had pretty good seafood offerings and a reasonably priced lunch menu. FAB (French American Bistro) is walking distance and is probably among the more unique options -- not cheap, but not terribly expensive either, depending on what you order. Mama Ninfa's was always reliable for a cheap Mexican fix, though certainly nothing special.

If you want to branch out with a few more options, you might want to hop on MARTA and go a few subway stops north to either the North Avenue or Midtown stations and walk to some other options. Baraonda on Peachtree Street @ roughly 5th is excellent and very reasonably priced. Ecco on 7th (1 block west of Peachtree, which is the main north/south surface street in the city) is excellent, unique, and has tapas options to keep the price down. It is probably closer to the Midtown station (on 10th, also a block west of Peachtree) than the North Avenue station. One block north from the Midtown station, you will find Crescent Street (runs parallel to Peachtree, one block to the west) which has quite a few options. Ri-Ra is a relatively new Irish pub with great cocktails and beer offerings, but which also had surprisingly good food. Vickery's, Front Page News, and South City Kitchen are all further down the block, and Pasta di Pulcinella is one block further west, in a cute house tucked back behind some of the other buildings.

So, that should at least give you some more options to check out and see if any appeal.

Ozumo on the Embarcadero ?

I went to Ozumo two weeks ago and liked it very much. My friend had sushi for an appetizer and we both had steak entrees, and all were great. I would suggest sitting in the bar area rather than the main dining room - far better atmosphere. The cocktail menu is very creative, and they have a huge selection of sake if you are a sake fan.

You are also going to be close to the Ferry Building and places like La Mar Cebicheria and Slanted Door, which are both very good. But, if you go to Slanted Door, get a reservation in advance, or be prepared to be there when they open and take a patio table because it is packed the minute it opens for dinner.

Looking for three suggestions - dinner w/parents, romantic Berkeley bar, and Union Square weekday breakfast

I second the Scala recommendation - I had brunch there on a Sunday two weeks ago and the atmosphere was very pleasant and my french toast was fantastic. Reservations can be made on OpenTable, too, if I remember correctly.

Cocktails+dinner, brunch recs -staying in Union Square

We ended up at Alexander's during the week - group of 8 and everyone was very impressed with the quality of food and the variety in the meal. Those who had steaks were very pleased, but the restaurant had a lot more to offer than that and the cocktails were good as well. We also ate at Ame another night since we were staying at the St. Regis and it was great, but I'd probalby go back to Alexander's over Ame. Though we did get a couple of laughs out of the "we consider ourselves an elegant steakhouse" spiel they give you at the beginning of the meal, and the prices of some of the "off the menu" beef choices.

I'll go back to Ozumo, too, but sitting in the bar area is a lot more appealing than the dining room which was dull. And I was amazed at how quickly Slanted Door fills up - a line at the door at 5:30, though I had no trouble getting a walk-up table on the patio and a great meal.

THanks - Foreign Cinema looks very cool and I like their menu.

Very interesting that San Fran is not a steak town - that's usually a safe bet most places! We are moving in other directions and looking at Gitane, Ozumo and Americano for dinner.

Cocktails+dinner, brunch recs -staying in Union Square

I'll be in San Francisco for work and am meeting up with a friend for dinner, but she just moved there so we're looking for suggestions for somewhere for cocktails and dinner that would appeal to two thirtysomethings and would be walking distance or easily accessible (short cab ride is fine) from the Union Square area. Steak, Italian, French bistro, or tapas all appeal as far as cuisine, and we would prefer an atmosphere that has energy and a good crowd, but where you don't have to shout at each other or have a total nightclub vibe (ex: menu looked good at 5A5 but it looked like it tries to be too clubby).

Also looking for a Sunday brunch suggestion.

Thanks!
