Affordable Restaurants [Lower Westchester]

I live in White Plains, and if I see one jore burger joint or mexican/latin restaurant, I'm gonna scream or become a vegetarian!

Cioppino [Westchester]

Kalbi house (central sve, white plains),has a good seafood pot. Served on the portable burner, comes with crab legs, calamari, mussels, fish, and tofu . The fish has bone in it, but it is delicious. It has a tomato base like ciopino, with a little spice. I usually go in the winter time. A perfect dish to warm up to.

Steak in White Plains?

I agree. Had great dishes, just never a good steak. Had the sirloin at X20 and sent it back. Overcharred and under seasoned. Second time not much better, but the waiter made me feel so comfortable, I kept quiet. Loved the octopus app (though I like gaucho grille's more).
Mentioning Gaucho Grille, I have enjoyed their mixed grill and skirt steak. They usually cook it to your specifications, but you have to be careful on busy nights. I will probably go there soon, since now I'm thinking about it (strictly for research purposes only ;)). Maybe, I'll order a different cut, and report back.

Steak in White Plains?

I have read similar stories...either on yelp, opentable, or blogs. I only live 4 blocks away, and have yet to go. I heard stories about bad seating, waiter attitude and inedible steaks. Was hoping management may change. Guess not. Sorry to hear you had a bad night. I would love to find a great steakhouse in the area. One that doesn't push the "up charges", and has friendly service. I can say Mortons is out, as well as X20 for me.

Nicky's Pizza [white plains]

I'm not sure about the logo, but when I walked by a few weeks ago, I saw the old light sign (saying "Nicky's")sitting inside. I'm thinking its the same Nickys, or hoping. After I moved to WP's and found out (via Chowhound) Nickys was one of the preferred pizza places, they had the fire. I hope it is the original owners, and that the quality will be of what I've read.

Costco in Yorktown Heights?

This is a definite...Costco is hiring (mostly within for management) employees for this location.

Costco Food Finds - 3rd Quarter 2014

Yes.....its on the USDA website. Was also at Sam's club. I'm a subscriber of the recall list, and its scary how much gets recalled.

Fantasy Cuisine [Central Ave, Hartsdale]

Thanks! Very similar to noodles + in White Plains. Even the format of the menu is strangely similar.

Fantasy Cuisine [Central Ave, Hartsdale]

Saw people in the restaurant today. I was apprehensive to go with out knowing the menu.

Costco Food Finds - 3rd Quarter 2014

Yes..., these have been around for a while now, but the "Maple Donuts" assorted gem donuts rock...,especially when you get ones with lots of cinnamon and powdered sugar. They are circulating in the Costco's though...one week in Yonkers....the next in Port Chester...so you have to keep your eye opened!

Costco Food Finds - 3rd Quarter 2014

Though a valid point to cancel membership, a commenter put it best...."you guys want to cancel your membership to a company that pays the highest wages to its employees in the retail industry and offers full medical for as little as $9 a paycheck. And you want to go and shop at Sams Club/Walmart, who can care less about taking care of their employees, and who tells their employees to collect welfare? Over a book? And a book that will be back on the shelves again?"
2 Weeks, it'll be back. Costco loves their members....

Do you remember where you found it? I would love to try it, if my local Costco carries it.

Great crab legs in Westchester or Putnam

Dont forget when Costco has their seafood roadshows......usually on the weekends. Sometime one leg is over 1 pound!

Blue Hill Stone Barns private table? [630 Bedford Road Pocantico Hills, New York]

Yes, I wanted actually say that it is doable, just not very profitable in the business unless commercially and publicly praised.Nor is it "friendly" to many wallets. Actually, the one's that don't understand how simple it really can be, are the ones that cannot afford the experience.

Blue Hill Stone Barns private table? [630 Bedford Road Pocantico Hills, New York]

I agree. It seems to me that the prices and availability prove that sustainable, farm to table and organic is not a feasible, at least in the tristate area. Maybe for a few, (with the right clientele), but that's it. On the other hand I have my own garden ( tomatoes, lettuce, onion, parsely, kolorhabi, oeoorrs, etc.) and only buy local, organic proteins (including eggs delivered locally every week)....so for a certain price....:)

Port Chester Hall now open

good one!

Port Chester Hall now open

Regardless of the typo's for the online menu, I wish them luck. I have definitely seen worse.....

Nicky's Pizzeria in White Plains

Great...right between Asian temptation, ichiro, and haiku. Not far from noda's or Bao's.

has anyone tried Kirkland brand marinara sauce

+1....exactly.

Has anyone you know ever actually gotten sick from eating raw cookie dough? [moved from Home Cooking]

Doesn't salmonella live on the outside of the egg? So with the chances of contamination being so low, mixed with proper cracking ( no edges!), would nearly eliminate salmonella poisoning. More likely, as others stated, the uncooked flour. My husband, a trained pastry chef will eat raw egg and sugar (like meringues-, or mixes, icings, custards; and he does agree about the sugar and eggs mixed is a chemical reaction, which inhibits potential harmful bacteria) but will NOT consume once there is any flour.
I always sneak some dough, but on rare occasion get a slightly upset tummy (but I have IBS, so I deserve it)!

Costco Food Finds - 2nd Quarter 2014

I believe the one from Costco was better quality, but I don't remember the brand name. There is usually way too much intermuscular fat in the other ones I bought from the supermarket-i would barely eat it. This one was flat cut, and did not have too much fat on top, nor within.

Deelite Bakery, Yonkers

I know they have a great rainbow cookie cake. It is like one enormous rainbow cookie. I loved it when I had it. It's been a while though.

42 Revisited-Birthday [White Plains]

Heard the negative reviews. But, I love the menu, and I live only 4 blocks away. Going to Gaucho grill tomorrow night as a "safety"; hubs LOVED it all 4 times we were there. But, I wanted something different for the 2nd night; He LOVES octopus, and the menu seems interesting, with "shared" plates, and others. So if anyone has suggestions on what is good, I will be more than appreciative.

Who reads recipe books to unwind!? (or now Chow!)

Guilty as charged. First cookbooks and cooking magazines, then chowhound, then bed.
