Harlem with my son
You may want to consider Melba’s for dinner. This cozy and casual restaurant is owned by the niece of Sylvia, as in Sylvia’s Soul Food restaurant, also located in Harlem. I dined at Red Rooster last month. It was fine but I wouldn’t say it’s child-friendly. The menu is described as global comfort food. I’m not sure how well this would appeal to a child, even an adventurous one. The “sides” that are included with the entrees are typically more of a garnish / accent then a true side dish. I found it a bit pricey for the portions.

Early Saturday 7/30 Dinner Recs?
Greetings,
I'm daytripping to NYC, Saturday after next, to see a Broadway matinee with a friend. Wondering if you can suggest some moderately priced (~$25/pp) restaurants for an early dinner. We're open to all cuisines and are not bound to the Times Square area. I just need to make it back to the Port Authority in time to catch an 8:00 PM bus.
Many thanks!
I NEED TO FIND THE FRENCH MACAROON
Not sure how they compare to other french macaroons in NYC but I really enjoyed the ones at the Macaron Cafe (http://macaroncafe.com/contactus). They have two locations: 7th Ave on 36th Street (near Macy's) and Madison Ave on 59th Street. The location near Macy's is practically a closet but the Madison Ave location is cute and cozy. They also offer lite lunches and provide lovely packaging of their cookies if you desire. Wide ranging flavors as well as season specific offerings.

Teranga is Fantastic!
I had the wonderful opportunity to dine at Terranga this evening.
My guest and I shared the Nems appetizer. It is a well-flavored spring roll that is expertly fried for a crunchy exterior. For entrees, I selected the Mafé (lamb stew) and my guest selected the Coquelet Braisé (cornish hen marinated in citrus and garlic). The food was flavor-filled, filling and just simply delicious. I look forward to dining here again and again and bringing friends.
If you're at all curious about Sengalese cuisine or are looking for something new to explore, definitely plan a visit to Terranga. It is a warm and cozy atmosphere with lovely piped in music. The South End location is an added bonus. This is a must dine place!

Jacky's Table Renamed
Greetings Fellow Foodies,
Passed by the former Jacky's Table (in Brighton) today. In addition to celebrating Bastille Day, it appears that the eatery is now being called Petite Robert Bistro (http://www.jackystable.com/index.html). Anyone have any details on the name change? Wonder if anything else will change?

Anyone Been to Maharaja in Harvard Square?
I tried Maharaja the first week that they opened. I thought their lunch buffet was more extensive than Cafe India on Brattle Street. The staff was very nice and attentive and the renovated space is lovely. I'm not the best at discerning true Indian food as I am still learning my way around the cuisine. However, I would definitely encourage you to try Maharaja.
Saturday Brunch near Kendall Square
Although they don't open until 11:00, MULAN offers great savory food.

Where to Find Baking Ingredients?
Hi All,
I'm ramping up for my annual holiday cookie baking. Just wondering if you might know of area stores that sell dutch-process unsweeetened cocoa powder and black licorice? Thank you!
Prepared food for Delivery to a New Mom?
The catering department at the Fresh Pond/Cambridge Whole Foods prepares and delivers excellent meals. The online menu and contact info is viewable at http://wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/freshpond/.
Must Find Blood Orange Juice. STAT.
I believe Whole Foods carries blood orange juice.
Olives Open Again?
I passed by the Charlestown Olives last week and saw that it was still closed. Has anyone heard a re-opening target date?

1st Annual Food Truck Festival
This was a GREAT idea. I only wish I had actually been able to acquire some food at the festival!!!
I arrived at 12:30 and made a bee line for M&M. After waiting over an hour, I hear people saying that they're out of ribs. I continue to wait hoping there will be some other meat offering. No luck . . . after about another 15-20 minutes, I hear that they're out of all meat offerings, only sides are available. No announcement was ever made by M&M so people continued to line up thinking that they were going to get ribs. There only seemed to be one person working in the truck so the line moved at a super snail pace. I was thinking that ribs would be continuously grilled/smoked but this was not the case. Perhaps this ws a potential fire hazard?? It was really disappointing as I rely on public transportation so it's unlikely that I could make it to the usual location for the M&M truck.
I then tried moving over to the Fillerbelly (sp?) truck but the same situation arose. I left the festival with a glass of lemonade from Rocca. Sigh . . . The only trucks that seemed well prepared for the crowds were Speed's and The Sausage Guy.
Again, this was a great and fun concept. The vendors just needed to be better prepared and speedier. It would be great if a "do over" could be held in the fall . . .

August Openings and Closings
I noticed that Olives in Charlestown is still closed. Does anyone know when they plan on re-opening? Seems like they've been closed a bit long for a grease fire.
Quick Paramount Query
Greetings Chowhounds,
Does anyone happen to know if The Paramount offers take-out for dinner?
Thanks!
Anyone Dine at Justin's Recently?
Thanks for the update! The website makes no mention that the eatery is closed. Oh well, I appreciate the info:)
Anyone Dine at Justin's Recently?
Hello!
Just curious if any Chowhounds have dined at Justin's lately? The website menu does not list any prices, should I be concerned about costs?
Homemade Corned Beef Hash-Boston Breakfast
I whole-heartedly agree with the Deluxe Town Diner rec. The corned beef hash is outstanding! I usually avoid ordering it as most places use mystery meat. Not here, it is the real deal. Totally worth a detour from BB / BH. Give it a try!

Garlic n' Lemons
I tried G'nL during their silent opening weekend back around April 14. There's definitely a lot of curiousity about this eatery as there was a line to order.
The wait was rather protracted as there was only one guy assembling the orders while several other people mulled around the kitchen in the back. Not sure why more people weren't helping on the assembly line. I attribute this to being a new eatery and I'm sure they'll work this out .
I decided to forgo the roll up choices and opted for the spicy eggplant burger kebab plate. The kebab was cooked right after I placed the order. It took about 10 minutes which I didn't mind as there is a cheery area with tables and chairs. The cashier packaged my to go order and provided a card with Gn'L's telephone number so that I can phone in future take-out orders. I appreciated that. The plate also came with rice, choice of salad (I went for the Greek one), and hummus. The meal was satisfying and filling. I actually had enough for a second meal. The eggplant was not particularly flavorable but I did enjoy the spiced beef. The spiciness was more apparent the second day. The Greek salad was crisp and tasty.
Overall, I enjoyed the experience and will definitely go back to try other menu offerings.
Pumpkin seed oil
I just saw virgin (?) pumpkin seed oil at the Star Market on Comm Ave in Allston-Brighton. The brand is International Collection and it's being sold for $14.99 for a 8.45 oz bottle. It's located on the top shelf, just above the olive oils.
Pumpkin seed oil
Hmmmm. Try calling Christina's Spice Shop (617-576-2090 ) in Inman Square. If they don't carry the oil, take a look at the King Arthur Flour catalog (http://www.kingarthurflour.com).
URGENT: TURDUCKEN NEEDED!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, can't believe you saw this:) You're welcome! Happy Turkey Day!
Turducken
Didn't realize that I responded to a really old post so thought I would repost to a current query here. I just purchased a ready to bake Turducken at Star Market in Allston/Brighton. They're averaging ~$20-$30. The brand is Shaw's so I'm not sure how authentic this is but thought I'd give it a try!

Hazelnut flour?
Hi!
If MB does not have the hazelnut flour, you can purchase it online through King Arthur Flour Company: http://search.kingarthurflour.com/?N=0&rt=p&Ntt=hazelnut+flour.
The Friendly Toast, Cambridge
Thanks for the clarification, CM! I was looking on the hours page instead of the announcements page. Bummer:( I'll have to make another journey later.
The Friendly Toast, Cambridge
Hi!
I trekked over to The Friendly Toast this afternoon and was disappointed to see "Sorry, we're closed for today" sign shortly before 3 P.M. I checked the website before I left and it stated that the Cambridge site would be open until 9 PM today (Sunday). I could see some diners inside. Does anyone know anything about this strange occurence?

I like the Trident Booksellers & Cafe on Newbury Street. It's a short walk from your hotel. It's a nice cozy and casual eatery. Check out the website at: http://www.tridentbookscafe.com/NASApp/store/IndexJsp
Upper Crust coming to BU?
I believe I read a profile just the other day about the Upper Crust creator/owner. The Q&A mentioned a pending BU Upper Crust location. I wonder if they're planning to move into the old McDonald's site on Commonwealth near the Pleasant Street T stop? The space seems rather large for an Upper Crust site but you never know. . . It would make a nice hang out spot for BU students.
