Dominos' Gluten-Free Crust

Anyone tried it?

I have no gluten allergy, but really like Dominos' thin-crust and wonder how this compares. It might be nice to have that same cracker-thin crust with a little flavor.

Pop Burger (9th Avenue/Chelsea) review

Well, written. Sorry to hear about the food.

You may want to try Ninth Avenue International Foods on 40th and 9th.

Anyone Try Those New Dunkin' Donuts "Deli" Sandwiches?

Not sure if I trust chipotle sauce from Dunkin Donuts? Anyone take the leap?

Mooncake Foods, 月餅 (Yuebing) A Restaurant with Inventive Menu of Asian Fusion

I have the good fortune to leave near the Watts St. location and work on the same block as the Midtown location; so I know my Mooncake.

The pulled pork sandwich is AWESOME! For $9.50 you get a tremendous amount of pork in a great BBQ sauce. I also enjoy the meatball hero and pork chop sandwich. I have had the beef curry stew several times, and find it good (not great) for the price.

Hands-down, the best part of the meal is the super super spicy green sauce they give. Ask for extra and pop it in the fridge.

Overall, a truly solid meal. If they sold the green sauce at WF I would be in heaven.

Angry Birds Cake

Anyone know where I can get a nicely done Angry Birds cake or cupcakes? Ideally below 14th St.

Little Cupcake Bakery on Prince & Mott. Wide assortment of cakes, cupcakes and pastries; cakes sold by the slice. They have a few tables where you can hang out, or walk down to the park on Spring and Mulberry.

Baumgart's Coming to Nyack...

Jeez...it has been a long time since that first post.

I make it to the Nyack area once a month and make a point to swing by Baumgart's Englewood every time. I'm not sure I want to blow my month opportunity for Massuman Curry with chicken and brown rice.

@JR: Any opinions on the food?

How Can I Make Cheap Scotch Palatable

Anyone in Manhattan want to trade for some scotch?

How Can I Make Cheap Scotch Palatable

Let me preface this post by saying: I do not like/appreciate scotch.

Recently, my mother came across about 35 bottles of cheap, old scotch from my grandfather's liquor store-owning days. Mostly it is Dewars, J & B, and some off brands like Old Smuggler.

So I inherited all this scotch, but I really don't like it. Any ideas on mixers/cocktails/anything I can do to make this scotch drinkable to a non-scotch lover?

Where do chefs buy cookware in NY?

Yes, they have all the standard small-wares you would expect (spoons, tongs, spatulas, etc.).

Upon further thought, I have never purchased pastry related items there. So you may want to peruse the catalog or call to double-check.

Where do chefs buy cookware in NY?

I would suggest Win Restaurant Supply on Houston & Lafayette. I just picked up a few full-size shallow hotel pans for $14 each, and the medium depth were only $18/each.

Their prices may be a bit more expensive than the places on Bowery; however, everything is new as opposed to some of the second-hand (or worse) goods at the tiny places.

Potato Knish Quest

When I'm in the 'burbs I hit Tenafly Kosher in Tenafly, NJ. They make some pretty excellent Knishes.

Perfect Mojito

Just the lime juice? Interesting...

I always cut my limes into wedges, then into thirds and muddle the tiny lime pieces with the mint. I add simple syrup instead of muddling the sugar.

Finally, I go with just a splash of soda and a lime juice hat on top. Makes a pretty strong cocktail, and you need to drink it through a straw, but so delicious.

I will try with just the lime juice and extra soda next time and let you know.

Cute Spot in Tribeca

Good to know. I walk by this place all the time but usually get put off by the pink exterior. Something about that color just makes me feel like their burger just isn't that good.

ISO pistachio muffins

Yup...Guy & Gallard on 7th and 29th has them as well. Never tried one, so can't testify to the quality.

Maison Laduree has finally opened!

How big are these things? When I think macaron I think quarter - half-dollar size cookies. If they are that size, $2.70 each seems somewhat steep.

Potbelly

Potbelly is on an expansion tear here in Manhattan: two opened so far, two or three more planned.

Personally, my lady and I were starving in Washington DC and ended up at a Potbelly north of the Mall. I guess because we were so hungry the food left a mark on us and now we make some special trips down to the Maiden Ln. location.

Now that I have had Potbelly a few times, I can say that it is "good", better (by multiples) than Subway or Jimmy Johns, and cheaper than Pret a Manger.

The meats seem to be of good quality, the toasty bread is ok, I like the chili and have never tried the ice cream.

All told, I am sure there is room for Potbelly in Manhattan given the quantity of people; although I see myself already being a little worn out with it.

Does Anyone Ever Wish Chowhound Would Bring Back the "Tri-State Area" Board?

That is a very thoughtful response. I think we agree on almost all of the points. A few considerations:

1. New Jersey (specifically Bergen and Hudson Counties) should be within the scope of any board discussing the NYC suburbs.

2. I am not sure it makes sense to structure the boards more specifically than "Suburbs" or "Tri-State". I live on the NY, NJ border; about 25 minutes from Greenwich; it would be a shame to have to jump boards just to keep abreast of what amounts to local conversation.

3. There was always a New Jersey board, even when there was a Tri-State board. The only thing that changed with regard to that board was the classification (changed to "Mid-Atlantic"), and obviously there is now discussion on the Tri-State region. I see no reason to make changes to that board.

Does Anyone Ever Wish Chowhound Would Bring Back the "Tri-State Area" Board?

I for one miss the old "Tri-State Area" forum. It encompassed all of the in which areas I worked and ate.

Now if I want to see what is going on in Bergen, Rockland, Westchester or Fairfield counties I have to go to 3 different boards, none of which really focuses on the region I want. In general, I do not need information on Rhode Island, Far North/West NY, or Southern New Jersey; though I have no way to avoid it.

After having all this time to reflect, I feel removing the Tri-State board was a mistake.

Good Italian sandwiches in Lower Manhattan?

Torissi is overpriced. Alidoro is good, but they are nasty. Go to Parisi not only is it the best Italian sandwich in the area, but they bake their own bread to boot.

Why is Quiznos charging for napkins and bags after purchase???

This is just as bad as the Subway operators who try and charge you for a cup to put water in, or refuse to give you one altogether because they are "inventoried".

Yet if you put the sandwich on your credit card, the charge comes up as "Subway Restaurant". Last time I was in a restaurant, the water was free.

Baked Alaska?

Craftbar used to make a pretty good one. Not sure if it is still on the menu.

Best Gelato ANYWHERE - La Cremeria!

I swung by last Saturday after reading the posts, had a medium which was maybe $6 and shared it with my lady. We tried the Amarcord (mascarpone with chocolate "fondue") and Nocone (80% cacao) and was blown away by the flavors and texture.

We were coming home from Scarpinia and decided to swing by Otto for dessert. We had 3 flavors for $8 (Olive Oil, Lemon and Dark Chocolate; the size is about the same, and I will admit we probably didn't make the wisest flavor selections). Anyway, the only standout was the olive oil, and that was too frozen.

Maybe Otto isn't the best basis for comparison, but I have been eating their gelato for years and always thought it was very good. Or maybe La Cremeria is just much better. I certainly think so.

Potbelly in Manhattan

I just saw that Potbelly opened a shop down on Maiden Ln.

Anyone been? Do they have their legs under them yet, or should I wait a few more weeks to go?

Best Bagels in SoHo?

There are no edible bagels in Soho.

You are fortunate enough to have access to an excellent baguette (Fancois Payard Bakery, Houston & Thompson), and an excellent croissant (CeciCela, Spring & Lafayette).

Chipotle....What's Good Here?

I went to the location on 26th and 7th. My total was $10 and change for the burrito and a small fountain soda.
