Wedding Rehearsal Nashville

Ainsworth Inn is a historic bed & breakfast/event facility. It's got charm and they can accommodate 80 quite nicely. Let Ann know that Linda referred you! Take a gander @ www.ainsworthinn.com.

I also recommend Chef Darryl Dinning of Panache Catering. He's incredible - I've been eating his food for almost 5 years now and have worked on a slew of events with him for the last several years! http://www.panachecatering.biz/

what goes with grilled ham and cheese?

i haven't made anything with red potatoes in years! this sounds lovely. i'm definitely going to try it out during my 3rd annual - 48 hours of christmas (i don't go home for christmas and invite over other "holiday orphans" during an entire 48 hour period to eat and hang out together). thanks!

i'm excited about using the panini press...it's a good quality one, but doesn't leave grill marks. thanks for your ideas and encouragement!

what goes with grilled ham and cheese?

i think a salad like this one is right up his alley with the grilled ham & cheese. i think i'll sub pears for the apples, make candied walnuts, and get some raspberry vinagrette. thanks so much!

what goes with grilled ham and cheese?

i'm breaking in the new panini press and making grilled ham and cheese sandwiches (per my ex-boyfriend's request...he's coming over TONIGHT to set-up my new sound system). i've never made ham and cheese sandwiches (really, i haven't) and found a few recipes that i can tweak. however, i have no idea what to serve with them (no potato chips or tomato soup from a can, please). i'm hitting the grocery store after work and have only an hour to make dinner. help! thanks.

Too Ripe?

I bought my first golden honeydew melon. It looked ok and smelled ok when i prepped it. But then when I took a bite of it, it sorta tasted...like...um...acetone...aka nail polish remover. I'm assuming it's too ripe, right?

unrefrigerating beer

i've got another housemate moving in next week and need to make room in the fridge for her stuff. is it ok to take beer (in bottles) out of fridge and store it in the pantry? it was leftover from a recent party and i don't drink it that often. oh - and i also have a bottle of good white wine that would free up a lot of space. maybe i just need to have another party to get rid of the drinks and all the food/condiments/dressings in there!

There's lots to see and places to shop in these areas, too. Happy hangin'!

When Bad Things Happen to Good Vegetables: Your food storage tips?

What would really help on the outset is NOT letting produce depts use those automatic sprinklers on vegetables. It's the worst thing ever. Gross.

Butter Molds

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. At this point, it looks like he'll have to order online. We don't have too many specialty shops in Nashville (yet).

Butter Molds

My friend is in search of butter molds for his momma. Where in the heck can I find them? I don't want "vintage" or expensive...just simple. If they come in a star shape, that'd be icing on the cake. Thanks!

Best Sushi Cookbook?

I've always been a fan of Nobu Matsuhisa (via TV appearances and reviews). But last week when I was "home" on vacation, my bro took me to dinner @ Matsuhisa in Los Angeles. OMG...we were in heaven. THE BEST Japanese food we've ever had in taste, presentation, and experience. We're definitely going to make it a regular place whenever I'm home.

If it's any indication, I'm sure his cookbook will be great.

suggestions for perfect iced tea?

With all the entertaining I do, I've resorted to Cold Brew Lipton Tea Bags. No need to boil water. Pour cold water over the bag and in 3 minutes, you're golden. Works famously...right in the pitchers you want to serve it in. Just wish the strings were longer, though. =].

Nashville Meat & 3 and good BBQ

Meat & 3s:
Monelle's is a fun way to dine and has a fab weekend brunch. I hear the historic Loveless Cafe is great, too.

BBQ:
I actually like Jim & Nick's & Judge Bean's is pretty good.

Nashville Venue for 40th Birthday Party

Yea...I already have a chef/caterer on hold (he was going to work the original venue)...but even finding a space has been tough.

Call me stubborn, but I really want to have it on my actual birthday. Thanks for your suggestions...I've just contacted City Hall.

Nashville Venue for 40th Birthday Party

Ok...I'm two weeks out and I still haven't found a venue for my 40th birthday party in Nashville. I did have a great place reserved for 10 months, but got a call this week saying that they have to bump me now for another event (sucks, but I understand...I know the event planner and why they have to do me wrong).

So now, we're having a difficult time finding a place that's "me" and not expensive. There are currently 388 on the guest list, but I doubt even half will come. It's a come when you can thing...but will feature a few folks sharing some songs, stories, and light fare. Any suggestions? THANKS!

group dinner in nashville?

Consider The Yellow Porch by 100 Oaks Mall. They do take reservations - especially for a group your size. Ask for a manager when you call. Not that cheap.

How do you like your oatmeal?

- Instant oats
- water
- crasins (dried cranberries)
- splash of real maple syrup

1. Stir (should be pretty runny)
2. Nuke for about 1 minute
3. Stir in some milk or cream (flavored creamers ok, too)

I've also substituted the crasins with fav fruit jam, but with step 3. Great with a side of bread & butter pickles with eat bite...for real. Trust me.

One day in Atlanta

I know that trailer! Yea , there are some pretty good barbecue places, but since I'm a wet rib girl...that apparently is another deal altogether over here (folks seem to be partial to pulled pork on a bun, usually with slaw...which I don't understand). Wish my little bro wasn't 2,000 miles away. His barbecue ribs are killer!

One day in Atlanta

Geez - my second day on chowhound.com and I'm gettin' the wet noodle treatment. Sorry...but I'm not from Atlanta...just an L.A. girl stuck in Nashville now...excited about a dive with great live blues (at least when I've been there) with what I think is good ribs. My sincere apologizes to the locals. I'll be sure to check out your recommendations the next time I do a road trip to your fair city. =].

One day in Atlanta

OMG - you can't miss Fat Matt's Rib Shack (literally a shack)...staple whenever I go to ATL. Lunch or dinner, its rules (weekend nights there's usually a live blues band, too). Bring a good appetite and cash - no plastic allowed.

BTW - if you're @ the Hyatt Regency (the one across from the Intercontinental Hotel), their buffet breakfast is actually pretty good...in fact, they had the best grits I've ever had (and I'm not that big of a fan of grits).
