Best Hummus and fresh pita bread in bay area?

They don't make fresh pita, but I love the hummus at Sultana in Menlo Park. Great garlicky flavor and not as oily as the Sabra hummus, which I'm not very fond of.

Van selling Asian food at Stanford?

Bon Appetit is a catering company that does a lot of business around Stanford. I'm guessing they were just setting up for an event?

Beer stores on the Peninsula

Up the street from Beltramo's, K&L Wines has a pretty wide selection as well. Mostly single bottles of craft brews and interesting imports. You can see their full selection on their website, which has real-time inventory.

Suggestions for great Sushi that is moderately priced / affordable?

I moved from Phoenix to the SF Bay Area about a year ago, but our go-to place for reasonably priced, good sushi was Sushi Ken in Ahwatukee. The service was sometimes kind of spacey, but we avoided that by just eating at the sushi bar.

Tongue other than lengua for tacos near Palo Alto?

The Bushido in Mountain View has beef tongue as a yakitori option. They also have chicken hearts and gizzards. I haven't had any of them so I can't comment on how good they are but they're on the menu. I think the food there in general is pretty solid and it's worth a visit, though.

Brunch in Scottsdale/East Phoenix?

I'm a big fan of the Orange Table. Service is sometimes spotty but the food is always excellent. It's definitely not noisy if you eat outside, and I don't recall inside ever being obnoxiously noisy either. Their coffee soda is one of my favorite hot weather drinks of all time, and their brunch menu is pretty varied. If you like hashes at all theirs are some of the best I've had.

Favorite Grocery Store? (South Tempe)

The Guadalupe Farmer's Market is worth checking out if you live in South Tempe. It changed owners recently (and I moved to the Bay Area recently as well) but it was always a good stop for me to get cheap produce, oftentimes local and/or organic, for much better prices than Whole Foods or AJs. They also have a decent selection of homemade jams, dried fruit, and some Mexican goods. They regularly roast hatch chiles there too during chile season!

Tempe breakfast?

Z Tejas in downtown Tempe has a decent brunch on Saturdays and Sundays with some southwestern-influenced breakfast items. If you like Bloody Marys, the $3 Bloody Mary bar (with any kind of vodka you want) is great.

Four Peaks also has brunch on Sundays.

The US Egg on Baseline near Mill is pretty decent standard breakfast fare.

Best Beer Restaurants in Phoenix?

Thanks for the tip! Do you have any idea how late it's open (or what its name is for that matter)? I go to Papago a lot but generally go pretty late in the evening and the only thing I ever eat there is the spinach/artichoke dip, which is not really that good but is better than most of the other offerings on the menu.

Visiting Sedona and Flagstaff, Help!

Martanne's in Flagstaff has excellent Mexican breakfast/lunch food. They are not open for dinner, and the line can get pretty long on weekends.

Free wi-fi around Chandler?

The Lollicup on Alma School and Warner has wifi (and there are computers there as well for public use).

(Tempe) Good Takeaway Salad

You could try the Oregano's on University near Hardy - their salads are huge and pretty tasty (I'm pretty fond of the beefstro classic).

I'd definitely call it in and ask for the dressing on the side or it'll get soggy.

Colorado Springs Burgers and Green Chile?

Not sure how the burgers are, but the Western Omelette in Colorado Springs had great green chile. It is an independently owned greasy diner kinda place - breakfast and lunch fare only. I'm not a local so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I have had my share of green chile and theirs was fantastic (and when you tell them you want it hot, they'll make it really really hot).

Phoenix's Best Beer

I'm not sure since I've never been to the one up north and just go to the Tempe one - you'd probably need to call and ask.

Phoenix's Best Beer

The pumpkin porter is also at Papago right now! Love the stuff. If you go to Four Peaks on Thanksgiving morning they have growlers of it for sale - we're planning on getting some for the big meal.

If you go to Papago's website (http://www.papagobrewing.com) they are pretty good about updating their tap list, in case you wanted to see what was there in advance before going.

Phoenix's Best Beer

Another vote for Papago here. Another great thing about them is that all of their beers are the same rather low price - you're not paying double the amount for a Belgian as you are for a domestic brew. I also love their board game selection and the fact that they have free wifi - I've never felt too weird bringing my laptop in to get some work done. Their spinach and artichoke dip is pretty good if you need something to nosh on.

Posole (PHX)

It's on 10 San Francisco Street. It's open for breakfast and lunch (I think they close at 2pm), and lines can get long on the weekend since it's small inside, but the wait is definitely worth it.

Posole (PHX)

While not in Phoenix, the posole at Martanne's in Flagstaff is a force to be reckoned with. Perfect hangover cure that meets all the criteria - spicy, fresh, not fatty at all, and served with handmade tortillas (as well as beans and rice and a runny egg on top).

Urban Campfire finally biting the dust? -PHX

Urban Campfire is still open! My boyfriend went there for lunch today and said the menu seemed sparse but the food was still good (he said the ribs were actually better than the last time he had them there). Looking forward to seeing the new decor and getting some grub.

Arizona Restaurant Week -- the case of shifting menus

We were at Cowboy Ciao last night and there wasn't even a choice for dessert! Everyone got the same thing - an espresso/chocolate cookie, a snickerdoodle, a teeny lemon tart with berries and creme fraiche, and a chocolate peanut butter cake thing. The appetizers and main entrees were the same as listed (including the aforementioned salmon), and each guest was given the choice of a "complimentary" glass of Cycles Gladiator chardonnay or pinot noir.

I don't think this was a bad menu change, per se (I really liked both wines), but I was stoked to try Elvis at the Diner and none of the desserts really floored me even though I wouldn't complain if someone gave me a lifetime supply of those snickerdoodles.

AZ Biltmore Area- Good Food and Good Bar Scene

Roaring Fork is always entertaining and the food is great. If cost is a factor, they are still running the all night happy hour, and you can't beat the free jerky at the bar (unless you're with vegetarians)!

Best lunch in Mesa/Chandler/Tempe

I like Yupha's Thai Kitchen for Thai. They recently moved to the McClintock/Elliot intersection and I'm not sure if the new location is open yet.

I also like Dragonfly for Vietnamese and Hodori for Korean. They are in the shopping center at Southern & Dobson.

excellent happy hour menu scottsdale

We go to Roaring Fork for happy hour almost every week and we asked the same question. The bartender told us last year "summer" ended when it stopped being hot, which was around October sometime (!).

Christopher's-- Late night

Ah, maybe it's just that there's no more late night food - we got there at 10:30pm or so and were told they stopped serving food at 10pm. Hungry brains don't work so well.

Phoenix East Valley - Sports Bars with good food

I've had some good lunches at the Half Moon Sports Grill. There's one on Kyrene and Elliot in Tempe, as well as some other locations in the valley.

http://www.halfmoonsportsgrill.com/

I'm not sure if Four Peaks would be showing it, but they're definitely a good choice for grub and drink as well.

Christopher's-- Late night

Sad to report the leftovers special is gone... as well as the wine bar itself. Christopher's has relocated to the other side of the mall complex and now it's connected to a cocktail lounge called Crush, which doesn't serve food.

New Pho Restaurant near Lee Lee Market

Isn't this where Yen Mi was? I think they repainted it so that it looked less institutional and changed the name to Pho (some number), but as far as I know there was always a Vietnamese restaurant there. I'm curious to know if the menu/food is any different than Yen Mi's was.

Where to Buy Live Lobster (Phoenix)

Just on a semi-technical note, the big Asian grocery at the Asian Cultural Center is not LeeLee's - it's a Super L or something, used to be Ranch 99, which is an Asian market chain based in California. Leelee's is on the corner of Dobson and Warner in Chandler (there's apparently another one in Glendale now) and independent of that store.
