Sushi Newbie

In my opinion the best things on the Menu are:
Gindara Aburi ( Seared Sable Fish)
Wagyuaburi(Seared premium Japanese beef)1ps- the most flavorful piece of beef you've ever had.
Spicy Grilled Clam
Aji ( Jack Mackerel)
Spicy Tuna & Radish Sprouts (order this as a hand roll)
Hamachi Kama is a must.
House miso soup

Junji is the best sushi chef around. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy.

Turducken availability?

Scroll to the bottom of that page and stuff one of those in a cow and you're all set :-)

Turducken availability?

We have gotten our Turduckens from here:
http://www.cajunspecialtymeats.com/browse.cfm/turducken/2,52.html
They were delicious every time. Havent gotten one for a couple years though.
Scroll to the bottom of that page and behold the Fowl de Cochon (Pig Turducken) - a boneless pig stuffed with a Turducken. That I would love to try :-)

CHERRYSTONES

My favorite place for cherrystones is The Tides in Nahant. I believe a dozen is like $14 or so and they are always plump, juicy, fresh and ice cold. Now I want some. Thanks.

Omakase @ Sushi Island for lunch today...WOW

I don't ever remember seeing skate on the menu at Sushi Island. Doesn't mean they've never had it though. Sounds interesting to me.

Yesterday I had a legitimate "Foodgasm"

After reading this again, I guess I was a little understated in my enthusiasm :-)

Yesterday I had a legitimate "Foodgasm"

I was coming back from a job on the South Shore (I live on the North Shore) and I had a craving for some oysters. I have been wanting to check out the new Legal Harborside so I decided to give it a shot. Beautiful, immaculate place in a great location right on the water. At 4:00pm on a friday afternoon the place was about a quarter full. Nice vibe going on as people start unwinding from another week in the salt mines. Can't wait to come back in the summer and sit outside. I wasn't expecting any life changing, earth shattering experience. I've been to many different Legals locations. I just wanted some oysters and a pint. I knew what to expect, or so I thought.

I walked in and went to the circle bar on the left, first floor. I started with an expertly poured pint of Guinness, 6 Wellfleets and 6 Kusshi. Both types were delicious, creamy and fresh. Definitely hit the spot. Decided to go with an order of steamers, and something else. Something not shellfish. Hmmmm, some interesting looking starters and bruschettas. Almost went with a stuffie, but I've had plenty of those and besides, more shellfish. I decided on the braised shortrib bruschetta with fontina and truffle oil. Am I glad I did.

The steamers arrived first so I dove in. After 5 mins the bruschetta arrived. The waiter placed the long, white, oval dish in front of me. Two pieces of bruschetta greeted me. They looked good. Smelled good. I let them sit for a minute while I ate a few more steamers, which were plump and sweet and dripping with butter. Just how I like them. OK, time to have a taste of the bruschetta. Crunch......OMG........Cue angels singing. This was the best tasting single dish of food I have ever ordered anywhere in my life. Period. Perfection. I'm not very gifted with the ability to describe the subtleties of flavor and texture, but I'll try. The perfectly toasted crunchy bread, the falling apart, succulent meat, the creamy smooth melted cheese and the hint of truffle all worked perfectly together. I could not believe how incredibly delicious it was. This was as close to a religious experience as I have ever had. I inhaled the rest and immediately ordered another, you know, just to make sure I REALLY liked it. I did. I was tempted to order a third but was able to control myself...barely.

It's all I have been able to think about since then. I am totally obsessed. I have not seen this on the menu at any other Legal's and it's only available on the first floor at Harborside. I absolutely can not wait to go back and have another order...or four.

Steak Tips

Love The Line. One of the best cheesesteak subs around. (Haven't been in a few years though.) Definitely a dive, but definitely love it too. Lots of good memories there.

Steak Tips

Not a dive in a bad way. Colorful and full of character. I have never had any problem feeling safe bringing my wife and kids there. It's a residential working class neighborhood. Walking in the door is like going back to 1975. At least thats probably the last time the decor was updated. Bottom line--- It's a cool, old school place, with awesome tips.

Steak Tips

Newbridge is your place. Salad is the best. Atmosphere is a 3, tips and salad are a 9.

Had lunch there today because I saw this thread yesterday. I hadn't been in about a year and I was due. Started with 6 cherrystones. Then had tips med rare, fries, which are actually more like wedges, and a salad. Just delicious.

chinese food north of Boston

We do the same thing, except we eat there. Great atmosphere. Santa and Mrs Claus are there walking around handing out candy canes for the kids. We always see Johnny Pesky and usually Eddie Andelman. It's fun to people watch in the lobby while we wait. Great time and a tradition I hope we keep.

Along Route 1 South in Danvers Peabody Saugus--anything?

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it soon. I'm always looking for new place to try it.

Along Route 1 South in Danvers Peabody Saugus--anything?

This is my go to place for Hamachi Kama. The best I have found around the North Shore. Usually get a pretty good sized piece and it comes with a bowl of white rice and a salad with ponzu dressing. The Saugus roll is very good too. The few nigiri I have ordered were good too. But the Hamachi Kama can't be beat.

Too bad you had a bad experience Chris. Give them a second chance. Maybe they were having an "off" night.

Excellent Fried Clams?

Yeah, it's confusing around there. I grew up in Danvers and I still don't know where the line actually is. I'm pretty sure Sylvan St. Grille is in Peabody so the line must be somewhere in between since they are so close.

I live in Saugus now and I have to say recently the clams at the Saugus location are hit and miss. Had some that were overcooked and hard recently but also had some that were perfectly cooked, plump and juicy. I guess that's what you get when you hire high school kids part time to cook.

Excellent Fried Clams?

Not to nit-pick, but I think you mean Danvers not Peabody.

Secrets of Salem??

My 3 favorite places are all in Wakefield.

Slice Pizza for great pizza and eggplant rollatini

Fred's Franks for awesome grilled hot dogs and sausages.

And Sushi Island for world class sushi.

North Shore good eats for a foodie ??

Monte's and John's are both great calls. Two superior places about 2-3 miles from each other. I can remember my parents taking me to Monte's as a kid (some 40 years or so ago) and eating an entire large cheese pizza by myself at age 6.

Mino's and Fauci's are favorites here too. Lot's of good stuff in Lynn if you know where to look.

North Shore good eats for a foodie ??

Understandable. But don't forget about it. It's good stuff.

Slice is to pizza (and eggplant rollatini) what Sushi Island is to sushi. A bold statement? Yes. But one I strongly believe in.

Slice will not end up in the bad steer thread :-)

North Shore good eats for a foodie ??

Still waiting for your report :-) (I can't get enough of that rollatini)

Best French Dip?

I know it's not held in high regard around here but the french dip sliders at The Tides in Nahant are delicious. For $10 they are worth every penny. That and a dozen cherrystones and I'm a happy dude.

Hot Dogs: the Definitive List.

I have never had a Speeds dog so I can't compare but I am a HUGE Freds Franks fan. I try to tell everyone I know it's worth the trip from wherever you have to come from. Carl is a really nice guy and has added some sausage selections and has recently branched out into steak tips. My fave is always a monster dog with onions, habanaise and brown mustard. That green egg and apple wood is the key. So nice and crispy. Man I want one NOW !!!

Best Greek salad?

I seem remember Temptations gives you a bonus of a couple of stuffed grape leaves with thier Greek Salad too.

Steak Tips

If you're on a steak tip quest, Newbridge is a must. Tips med rare, fries and a salad with their awesome dressing. Just fantastic.

Savenors rib eye

I've always had good steaks from J. Pace in Saugus. Last time I got a couple 2" thick ribeyes and grilled them with a little Montreal seasoning and they were perfect. I think they were $14.99 a lb. Also had many really good porterhouse from them too. I found out the hard way that Pace can be an expensive place to shop when you're hungry.

North of Boston, please help: clean, child-free restaurant?

How about the Stagecoach Grill at Atkinson Country Club? Very unlikely to see many (if any) kids there. Beautiful patio seating looking over the 18th green. Pretty good food and spotlessly clean last time I ate there (2 years ago). Menu is pretty big and varied. Prime rib Sautrdays too. Check it out. Might be just what you were looking for.

North Shore good eats for a foodie ??

Well the OP did say "general North Shore Area" :-)

The pizza at Slice is delicious. The tomato sauce is what really makes it for me. I'm not as good as some others on this board at describing taste. It's just really, really good to great pizza. The pies are all one size, 16". A plain cheese is $10 and worth every penny. A single slice is $2.50 and is 1/4 of a pizza. It's my new favorite now since I discovered it a couple months ago. Other things that are a must try are the eggplant rolatini and the pressed grilled chicken sandwich. Definitely worth the trip from wherever you are coming from.

Also tried Renzo on Revere Beach for the first time Saturday night. Had the Margarita pizza. Wood fired oven + thin, thin crust= very good pizza there too. Saw a delicious looking shrimp scampi pizza there too that I want to try next time.

North Shore good eats for a foodie ??

Three of my favorites all happen to be in Wakefield.

Freds Franks- for fantastic grilled dogs, kielbasa and sausages.

Sushi Island- for world class sushi.

Slice- for sensational pizza and sandwiches.

Singing the praises of Slice in Wakefield

If you haven't been to Slice yet, you're missing out. I have had to literally buy new pants since discovering this little corner of heaven. I am currently addicted to the eggplant rollatini. This little dish of cheesy goodness is fantastic. The pressed grilled chicken sandwich is delicious as well. Also one of the tastiest Italian calzones I've ever had. And of course the pizza. Oh the pizza. Thin, crispy crust, tangy tomato sauce and the perfect amount of cheese. Easily the best pizza on the North Shore. Yes, I said it. BEST PIZZA ON THE NORTH SHORE. Deal with it. This tiny, and I do mean tiny little place is cranking out some incredible food. The menu isn't so big that you are overwhelmed. But it is small enough that everything on it (except the french fries) is hand made and delicious. Make it a point if you haven't been here yet to make a stop and give it a try. Even if it's out of your way you won't be disappointed.

Gourmet Diner in Danvers on the right Side of Rt.1 North?

I think it was Flash in the Pan.
Agawam diner is in Rowley, about 10 miles North on old RTE 1.

Where are the best pancakes or blueberry panckes near Wakefield?

Another vote for Brothers Kouzina. Never had anything there that wasn't outstanding. This is a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
