Food Truck Sound-Off

I tried the South Philly Experience truck the other day. I thought it was delicious!
I've eaten at both Pat & Genos and I honestly preferred this truck! They def had more meat and the meat didnt taste so onioney. lol.
The fries I wasnt stuck on. I was out like $12 for a good size cheese steak (I had them cut it in half so I could take the rest home), fries and diet coke (i have to keep my girly figure). so its not cheap but its worth it.
Next time however I'm going to ask for extra wiz on the side for dipping.

Trucks That Suck

btw: I tried the fry smith truck today. It was my favorite truck so far. Its like $6-$7 for a 3 pound dish of fries, cheese & meat.
I tasted both the fries with steak and peppers and the sweet potato fries with chicken. They were both really good. I would drive out of my way for this truck.

Still wanting to try the Philly & grilled cheese trucks.

Trucks That Suck

has anyone tried the banana pudding truck?
also if you HAVE LIKED anything from the trucks, please share.
Thx

Food Truck Sound-Off

yep Canadian bacon. I dont like it cause its more fatty to me. Its too chewy. I like the crispy of regular bacon.

usually there are no chairs. You wait for your order and either eat it in your car or whatever. I usually just sit on a nearby step. lol. Parking has not been a problem yet. There's usually spots/lot nearby.

The world fare truck was a double decker so you go to the top and eat.

It appeals to my friends and I. We like the whole thrill of the chase thing. We are mid twenties so maybe the novelty of searching down trucks will wear off.

Couldnt tell ya about the grease.

Food Truck Sound-Off

OK lately my friend and I have become obsessed with these food trucks. We follow them on Twitter and try and catch them whenever they are in the area. I would love to hear peoples take on which is their favorite and what dishes they recommend. It would certainly save us from literally spinning our wheels!

Kogi - I went there one time. I tried the sliders, short rib burrito and short rib tacos. They were all very flavorful. I had never tasted korean style tacos before. It was refreshingly different for me. My favorite of what I ordered was the sliders while my husband preferred the burrito.

Komodo - It was right after eating at Kogi and I wanted to compare. Unfortunatly they had run out of their truffle fries and many of their dishes. I managed to snag the very last Komodo taco. It was a taco with avocado on it. It was different than the Kogi. The Kogi had more of a krout taste while this was a bit sweeter. It was good. I dont think I would go out of my way for it though.

Buttermilk - I tried their french toast sticks and a meaty biscuit sandwich. I usually dont like french toast but I was recommended them. They were suprisingly good. They tasted more like a churro. The biscuit sandwich would have been better is I had gone with the regular bacon. Instead he recommended this other type meat which he said was "meatier". it basically was bits of fat. I'm not into cancadian bacon cause its too fatty and thats like what this was. I still ate it. lol. I added the garlic rosemary hashbrowns. they were different tasting. Strong but still good. I should have asked for salt. I would go back but next time I'd like to try something else.

World Fare - This was the most expensive truck we've encountered. Apparently th chef says she will be on the food network soon. I can see why. Though expensive, it was good. They serve "bunnies" which are little hollowed out breads with meat inside. We tried the curry, short rib and chicken. I preferred the short rib. We ordered the mac and cheese balls. I actually liked the fries that came with the burger best. The burger was juicy and good and the fries thin and well seasoned. The desserts were cherry chocolate molten cake and butterscotch bread pudding. My husband loved the butterscotch bread pudding while I wasnt stuck on either. They were still good but nothing great. If I were to pass by it again I would at in it. I just wouldnt go too far to seek it out.

Fry - This one was my favorite. I tried the chicken and cheese over sweet potatoe fries and the steak and peppers over fries. They were both delicious! I would definatly drive for this truck. It was so good! They also were kind enough to bring out buckets for customers to sit..

Cool Haus - this is the ice cream sandwich truck. It was during lent and I had given up cookies so I sat this one out. My husband LOVED it. I definatly want to try it for myself.

I have tried searching the boards for truck recs and couldnt find them. So I was hoping to get opinions. What are your favorite trucks? What would you recommend I order?

Thanks!

Going to Conan Show, Need Recs for Universal City --

The buffet at the Universal Hilton is delicious. It was by far my favorite buffet I have eaten at recently. We ate at it for Easter. It was well worth the $50pp!

There also a Chinese restaurant below the food court, across from the movies. It is at the City Wok. I've eaten there twice. Both times were very good. The thai salad, wonton soup, mongolian beef.... all delicious. I mean I'm sure there are better Chinese. However I live nearby and this is the best in the area for price/convenience.

Miceles is also touristy but if you're going to Conan, it will add to the experience. Its a fun place. The only thing that I have eaten there that I have liked is the chopped salad, their bread and baked linguini. I dont think the baked linguini is on the menu but the chef will make it for you. Its just linguini with cheese baked on top.

Hope this helped. Have fun at the show.

Cakelove

Cake Love sells vegan cupcakes. My son is allergic to eggs (and nuts) so this is why I tried it.
I got my 4 year old his vegan cupcake and got regular cupcakes for my friends and I. They were all actually unedible! I mean horrible. They were not at all moist, the frostings on all of them sucked and they were just all around chalky and flavorless!! To make matters worse, they are a small fortune!
DO NOT GO TO CAKE LOVE. I hear there is a place in DC by the Spy Museum called Red Velvet. I hear their cupcakes are delicious but I havent tried them yet.

baltimore restaurant week deals

We ate at Oceanaire last night for RW. Our waiter was nothing special. We had to aks for bread 3 times, etc.
The main thing that bothered me is that their RW entree items are al a carte. So on top of the $30PP you have to pay for mashed potatoes or anything else you may want to accompany your main dish. That kinda sucked. Even at restaurants that are usually al la carte like Mortons, Ruths Chris.... Their prix fixed menus or RW menus always include sides. So this was a rip off.
The entrees were great but nothing else was. The desserts tasted like something you would get at TGI Fridays. Actually Chilis or Fridays makes better desserts! The tin cup sundae had a brownie that tasted like it was microwaved. The chocolate chip cookies tasted like frozen warmed cookies. The sobet was just sorbet.
The clam chowder was very watery. The house salad was not impressive. Overall it was ok. I duobt I'd ever return. I wished I would have made a different choice for my friday RW. :(

'Pick Your Own' Berry Farms

I went to Larriland 2 weeks ago. What a beautiful farm!!
The fruit was slim pickings though. I'm not very particular either. I had never picked my own fruit before so my 4 year old and I were doing it for the fun of it. Unfortunatly it was more like an Easter egg hunt. lol. We tried red rasberries and there were so few!! We were heading to pick the purple rasberries when a lady coming from there told us not to even bother. lol.
They had lots of tart cherries on the trees but we wanted the sweeter stuff. My friend picked some anyway because she just wanted to pick SOMETHING! It turned out that they were sweeter than our couple of rasberries! lol.
I know it sounds like I am complaining. It may be just an off week or something. It was still fun. We pet some farm animals and purchased some local honey, jams and sassofrass (i think thats how you spell it). All in all, I would go back. However if you are going for the fruit, call ahead to make sure there's something to pick. :)

Summer '09 Restaurant Week - plans and reviews

I would like some help.
I live 45 minutes from DC. I will be coming there to try some of the higher end restaurants during RW. I just want to make sure I'm choosing the correct places.
For instance restaurants like Ruths Chris, Flemings and Sullivans have prix-fixed 3 course menues for $30-$35pp. So there is no deal there. I am also not familiar with most of the restaurants and I hear paying $35pp is actually MORE than I would normally pay for some of them.
Can you please help me pick 2?
I like all types of food. I dont care about ambiance. My main thing is taste and deal. I would prefer choices from places that I normally pay alot more to dine at.
Please give me your picks so I can try and get some reservations. Thanks in advance :)

baltimore restaurant week deals

good to know :)
You have any recs for RW?
I dont venture out often but want to try some good Baltimore restaurants.
Since I'm not familiar with the list I dont know which places are even a deal. I hear some restaurants are a rip off at $30PP, others save you about $2-$5 and then there are the places that are actually worth the limited menu and drive. The only thing I've heard is that The Prime Rib, Mortons, Capital Grille, Oceannaire and Black Olive are the must-tries as far as "deals" go. Would you agree?

Baltimore -- what do you think of my choices? Or can you suggest something else?

I guess it's too late for the traveler to entertain my opinion on this. However for the record, I will never return to Tio Pepe. I tried it out during RW because the CH boards recommend it. It was awful!! The food was not worth eating and the placed smelled dusty/dirty. It was like eating in a dark room in someone you dont know's house! eewww

Summer '09 Restaurant Week - plans and reviews

OK so I cannot any of the restaurants named on this thread on the list of restaurants participating in RW except The Prime Rib!!! lol.
Can you please provide a link to this extended list you all seem to have.
Thanks

Summer '09 Restaurant Week - plans and reviews

I cannot find any of the restaurants you named on the list?
Am I only getting a partial list here? I'm looking on www.baltimorerestaurantweek.com
What am I missing?

baltimore restaurant week deals

It isnt on the list for this RW this week :(

baltimore restaurant week deals

I was wondering the same thing. I would love some recs for restaurant week.
I can say that Mortons is great and $30pp for the dining room is so cheap. They also have $5 bar bites from 5-6:30 that are amazing.
Sulivans is delicious but I wouldnt hurry there this week because they have a $30 and $35 special menu all the time.
I had gone to The Prime Rib 2 years ago for restaurant week. I didnt really care for it. I got the crab imperial. However everyone else that went with us, loved it. It is a great value.

Annapolis

I likes Lewnes and Carols Creek. Carols Creek. I really enjoyed Carol Creek's macadami crusted Mahi as well as their cream of carb soup. The setting is also very fun. It is right on the water.

Baltimore Peach Cake Around Howard County?

Just heard about Peach Cake. I hear that Fenwicks makes a handsome one but it is 30 miles away from me! I live in Ellicott City. It is the part of Ellicott City that borders Columbia.
I wanted to try this cake. My brother is having a birthday party and I thought it might be nice to bring one. That way I'm killing two birds. :)

Does anyone know of a bakery not too far from me that sells an awesome Pach Cake? Also is peach cake in season yet?

Thanks!!

Baltimore-Blueberry Pie

Not to take away from the original post but I am jealous! lol. Do you guys know of any places near me that has marshmallow donuts and peach cake?! lol.
It sounds so good but Fenwicks is literally 30 miles away!

I live in Ellicott City by Columbia.

Best Of DC's Prix-Fixe Dinner Specials.. ??

thank you!!! Yes, I love to find out about just specials. It makes it affordable for us to try.

I hear that Sullivans in Baltimore has an amazing prix-fixe. Also, $29 pp before 6 then $35 anytime thereafter.

The Palm at Tysons has a $89 dinner for 2 special which includes a 4 lb lobster, aide and salad for $89. Until June 14th they also have a $35pp deal which has options including a 14oz filet mignon!

Does Citronelle ever have specials like these? :)

Anyother restaurants would be appreciated.

DC KIDS Restaurant week?

i would not think so.

'Pick Your Own' Berry Farms

I live in Ellicott City. Is the one you're referring to on 108 the closest picking farm to me? Because I have a 4 year old. It's not worth a long drive. lol.

Best Of DC's Prix-Fixe Dinner Specials.. ??

I am always trying to find an affordable way to ry the better restaurants.
So between June 13-21st some DC restaurants are doing what they call Cookie & Gourmet Kids week.
Here is the list I've found of participating restaurants. Has anyone eaten in any of them? Have an recommendations? I wanted to start making some reservations. Your input would be appreciated.

Ellicott City, Columbia, Hanover Best Eats

Thank you all for all these wonderful suggestions! I plan to try all of them. So far I have given Victorias and Coal Fire a try. We LOVED Victorias. We got those cheese gravy fries and a french dip. For dessert we had a coconut bread pudding. Everything was delicious!
Coal Fire was a nice change. I discovered I am not crazy about the pizza. I prefer Pasta Blitz pizza. The cheese steak though was awesome. It was great to have another option though. We will be back.
Please keep all the suggestions coming.

Go N To Nationals Stadium & Need DC Lunch & Dinner Recs!

Hi Chow Hounds!

Sorry about the short notice but we are going to a Nats game tomorrow afternoon. Normally we would just eat whatever is available at a stadium. Now that I have discovered Chow Hound I was hoping I could send out a SOS call. lol.

The game starts at 1:30. I really have no idea whats around the stadium or DC in general. I am not familiar with DC. Restaurants that I have eaten at down or around DC for previous lunches were Houstons, Crisfields & Benihana. I love them.

We dont want fancy. It could be a hole in the wall. We are not going to be dressed up. I'm hoping I'll get some suggestions for before the game (lunch) and after. It doesnt have to be like in the parking lot of the stadium. We have a call and are willing to drive a reasonable distance. Chinese, Italian, Seafood, Japanese, American, Shwerma places......... but nothing too ethnic. No sushi, thai, ethiopian or anything similiar.

If you know any must go to bakeries or cupcake shops please do tell. I really appreciate your recommendations. THANK YOU!!

Pasta Plus in Laurel

I ate in Pasta Plus once. I remember the noodles being homemade. It was good. Nothing however made me want to drive back out there. It is cramped and a bit far. I live in Ellicott City by Columbia. We usually eat at Pasta Blitz in Columbia. Their bolognese sauce is a creamy meat sauce. I prefer it over linguine rather than Penne. Their pizza reminds me of NYC. They have good calzones and I also like their Limone dish. It is pasta with chicken in a lemon butter sauce.

I am so sick of eating there though! lol. I eat there all the time. I would like to find other places around here. I was hoping to see you had more replies. :(

Fractured Prune - Ellicott City

FP is a fun place! I love donuts, cookies, cupcakes. These were like a dream. You can pick your flavor and they dip them and make them for you right there. I would recommend you try a FP donut. It is more like an experience. yum

Recent Baltimore Crab house info

apparently there are 2 "Bill's". I havent tried either and am confused as to which one you are referring to. Bill's Terrace Inn or Bill's Seafood in Perry Hall?
Thanks

Ellicott City, Columbia, Hanover Best Eats

Hi,

I discovered Chowhound while I was in CA. a few months ago. I spend half the year there and half in Ellicott City. The Los Angeles boards gave terrific sugestions and I was able to enjoy many new places. I was hoping to find the same here. So far I have not been really impressed by restaurants nearby. I hardly cook and would love suggestions for both quick casual hole in the walls to nicer places. Please when you reply make sure you tell me what kind of food and where. I would love to find a nearby Shwerma place, chinese....... WHATEVER. :)

My go to place for food right now is Pasta Blitz. I believe it is off of Snowden. It is in the center with The Good Egg. I like their bolognese sauce and pizza. Kinda sick of eating there though. So please help!!!
