Finalizing plans for dinner in Rome

Here is a link to the restaurants website which should work. http://www.vladimiroristorante.com/homeinglese.html. You can email your reservation request. It is a great place to be on a summer night.

Arriving Rome Sunday am. Staying at Hotel Majestic - Via Venito.

I don't know if you are interested in recommendations for Bellagio but if so we had a very nice dinner last month at La Punta http://www.lapuntabellagio.com/. It is about a 10 minute walk outside of town and is located at the point where the 2 branches of the lake divide, with dramatic alpine views to the north. They have very good lake fish, decent pasta, and a wine list with many interesting wines from the Valtellina. There is a covered terrace and a patio area. If reserving I would ask for a table on the covered terrace.

Thoughts on Rome trip (very long)

Thanks for the recommendation. Overall, it was our best meal in Rome. I hope to post a report soon. In the meantime, I would urge anyone who tries Vladimiro Marcello to order the roasted veal and potatoes. It was served as a roast for 2 persons on a large cutting board surrounded by rosemary roasted potatoes, and was excellent. The night we were there, the restaurant was jammed with Italians who seemed in a very festive mood, perhaps because it was the beginning of a long holiday weekend. We walked away after a long leisurely meal feeling as if we had experienced a classic roman evening.

Thoughts on Rome trip (very long)

I copied your report on Emiliane Colline and sent it my wife because she has been moderately upset since we ate there on 5/30 (a Saturday night). She thought we had done something wrong-- I knew we hadn't. I am not troubled by brusque or grumpy service from Roman waiters, but the service that evening was extremely rude to the point that it ruined the memory of the exceptional pasta dishes. I can't even recall what our seconds were because we just wanted to finish and get out. We had a shortish man in his 50's as our waiter who appeared to be covering the entire back room but disappeared for long periods of time. Ultimately, a young man who I think was a kitchen helper and busboy took responsibility for our table. We were not offered coffee or desert. The shame was it was such a beautiful evening I had almost cancelled the reservation so we could dine outside somewhere. The night before, thanks to a recommendation from this board, we had a fantastic experience at Vladimiro Ristorante Marcello. The atmosphere, service, and food were exceptional and we both walked out of Emillane Colliane wishing we'd gone back for a second night.

Short report of a 5-day trip to Rome

Thanks for this detailed description. Marcello was strongly recommended to me by a friend who was there in 2006. It sounds like it has remained consistent, and is the type of place we would enjoy for a large, leisurely dinner. I will try it and report back.

Short report of a 5-day trip to Rome

Many thanks for your recommendations. I have amended our list and will report back with our experiences.

Short report of a 5-day trip to Rome

I had Orso 80 on a list for a visit this summer. I understand people can have different experiences and disagree for other reasons, but with only 4 dinners in Rome during our brief visit I don't want to take any chances. I know you have current knowlege of Rome restaurants and wonder if you have any current recommendations within a mile or so walk of the Intercontinental De La Ville? We enjoy a leisurely walk back after dinner. Tullio, Osteria Marcello, Ristorante Edy have been recommended.

Quattro Leoni - what to get?

Lucky You. Definitely order the pear ravioli. It is a unique and delicious pasta. The recipe is actually available on their website but I was unable to come close to their version. By the way, the restaurant can be a little tricky to find so check a map if you don't know the area that well. Enjoy!

San Diego Mexican near Midway Museum

The Candelas in the Gaslamp was mentioned favorably in a guidebook I have, but I did not know there was one on the water. The setting looks spectacular. I had planned to drive over and see Coronado but the idea of a boat ride combined with dinner sounds better. Thanks.

San Diego Mexican near Midway Museum

I looked at El Agave's website and it looks like exactly what I had in mind. Thank you.

San Diego Mexican near Midway Museum

Hello from a new member. We will stopping in San Diego for the first time after a drive down the coast, and are planning on touring the Midway on a Tuesday afternoon in May. Our hotel is near the airport since we have an early departure Wend. Is there decent Mexican in this general area? We will have a car and GPS but would like to avoid a long drive back to the hotel if possible. This will be our last night in California for this trip so I'd like to go somewhere with a nice atmosphere. If a seafood place on the water would be a better choice that would be fine, also. We will actually be there 2 nights, although arriving late afternoon on Memorial day. Any recommendations appreciated since we have absolutely no familiarity with the area.
