It's my wife's 50th but she doesn't like Lamb's Brains
You might want to check out Volare in the Village. While I know it has it's haters, I have always enjoyed it. It is so old school Italian that you almost feel as if you are in a Godfather movie with the waitstaff fawning all over you. My father is a HUGE Oso Buco fan and has always loved the dish there. I have never had a bad meal there. I will say that I haven't been in a few years, but it was always consistant.

Fun Inexpensive Large Group Dining for adults and young teens
Thank you. I do like Spunto, but it is difficult to get everyone at tables that conversation would be able to flow as opposed to small groups that are cut off from each other. I think I need a larger (wider) space whch is what made me think possibly in Tribeca. But something along those lines would definitely work. I feel like there is something I'm not thinking of.
Fun Inexpensive Large Group Dining for adults and young teens
Any ideas if we include the EV and other types of cuisine?

I could use some help. I am looking for a place that could accomodate up to 23 people for dinner on a Sunday night. It has to be vegetarian friendly for some in the group. I am thinking that Italian or Mexican would fit the bill, although I am drawing a blank on places.
Anywhere between Tribeca and Hell's Kitchen would work, but we should remain on the West side. I would like it to be no more than $20 pp (NOT including drinks/tax/tip). If it is BYOB, all the better, but I can't think of any places that are anymore. So inexpensive drinakable wine would be good to have.
Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!
Mémé, wonderful mediterranean on Hudson St. (at 11th)
Agreed. Meme is fabulous. My son and I eat there regularly. The service is always spot on and friendly, and there hasn't been a dish there that I have not enjoyed.
Italian in the West Village for tonight!
I am looking for recomendations for a casual, italian for 4 people. I don't eat Italian that often, but have friends coming into the city who requested it. I have enjoyed Malatesta and that seems the sort of place I am thinking of, except maybe something a little less quirky. Thank you for any and all help!

Ideas for two teenagers?
Chelsea Market is an excellent idea. There is also the Italian market right across from the Thai place where his friend could get something as well.
Dim Sum question
Thank you to everyone for your help and comments. We ended up at 88 Palace. It was fun for the kids although we did not get any soup dumplings. I promised my son soup dumplings and steamed pork buns for Christmas. The other kids had never had them before, so they did not miss them. It was a fun experience and seemed like a "find" given the location which somehow made it seem a little more adventurous. It might not be the place I bring friends who "know" their dim sum, but it fit the bill perfectly for yesterday.

Dim Sum question
Thank you for all of this help. It looks as if I have convinced them to come on earlier, so we should be able to be down in Chinatown by noon. So, I guess, now the question is Golden Unicorn or 88 Palace? Does 88 Palace have carts? How were their soup dumplings?

Dim Sum question
Unfortunately, that is not an option. I kind of wish it was though.
Dim Sum question
That was what I was afraid of. I may have to give up the dim sum idea and come up with something else.
Dim Sum question
My son and I are having some friend's come into the city this weekend. We are starting off with skating at Bryant Park, but then I was thinking of heading down to Chinatown. I had originally thought they were coming in earlier, and we would be able to be in Chinatown by 12ish. However, it looks like that won't be the case.
I have always had Dim Sum early in the day. Do places serve it later too? Would it be possible to get good dim sum at around 3PM? Also, because kids are involved, I am looking for a Golden Unicorn type place. I realize there is better dim sum, but the experience is important in this particulare case.
Thanks for your help!

Please help save a family dinner - Village/Union Square/Soho Area
Thank you for these. I feel like Landmarc is a good bit higher than Otto by the time you are done, but definitely one of my favorites for both kids and grown-ups.. I have never been to Odeon, so that is an option. And I guess I should have said that I am doing this search because I may poke my eyes out if I do one more "OK" family dinner at Cowgirl. I have a 12 year old in the West Village and am beyond over it as you can well imagine. :-)

Please help save a family dinner - Village/Union Square/Soho Area
My father will be in town this Friday and has requested dinner with his children and grandchildren and I need to come up with a restaurant that will accomodate everyone's needs. My niece and nephew are 7 and 9 with typical children's table. We have to go out because my place isn't big enough for a group.
Otto would be a great type of place, however, I just found out that my father is not eating carbs and would like something not pizza and pasta centric. (Yes, I know about the other things at Otto...I think he would rather not be tempted) I am drawing a complete blank. I just need a place that can accomodate eight people, that would be fine for children is moderately priced (Otto ranges)
Saigon In and Out
I believe it is at 29 Catherine Street. I hope I have the name correct. Anyone know anything about it? I am supposed to be meeting someone there later this evening and just want to know what is good there.
Thanks!
Kids birthday party restaurant
As the parent of a 12 year old, my first question would be, is this a jaded, foodie 12 year old? What is cool to my child's girl friends from the suburbs is very different than what is cool to his female friends in NYC. Also, what is her favorite type of food? Interests? I love trying to impress this age.
Help for TONIGHT - eat with your hands
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. We went to meet at Mara's only to find out that they were closed on Tuesday's. Best laid plans. It was not that big a deal, we just ended up at Great Jones since after thinking about crawfish, got us in the mood for NOLA. The food was fine. May not have been the best or the most authentic, but the drinks were flowing so it turned out to be the sun night that was needed. Thanks.

Hmmm, I've never been to Mara's Homemade. That could be a possibility. Fun Atmosphere?

Help for TONIGHT - eat with your hands
Good suggestions, but I need places. I love Ethiopian, but some of my friends don't like too spicy. BBQ suggestions? Most fun atmosphere would be good.
Help for TONIGHT - eat with your hands
Looking for a fun place (I know that is relative) But thinking something like a communal eating experience. Steamed crabs (Clemente's is too far), or Crawfish, or something messy and fun that requires beer and/or wine. Maybe even fun cocktails. This is for a group of women in their 40s-50s looking to take a few hours away from reality with good food and drinks. I am thinking it is more about good food, good drinks and casual fun.
birthday dinner for 13-year old steak lover
I would 2nd Striphouse. My son had a really good time there. We both love the food, and the chocolate cake makes a GREAT birthday dessert. Another great place to go with kids that age for a special meal is Landmarc in either location.

Need great drinks place in West Village
I would agree with both Employees Only and Highlands. I would say that I also like the drinks at Chow Bar, and that is very close to Mary's Fish Camp. I believe that they open at 5pm.

Pink Teacup
Ha ha... well after reading the reviews on menupages it will have to be someone who is more in the chips than me and can afford to be disappointed. Alas, this economy has me doing my homework before I spend my money.
Pink Teacup
I was hoping for some reviews or opinions before I go. My son is only in town for this weekend, so I don't want to waste a Sunday morning breakfast if it's not worth it. :-)
Crab Boil???
I had a great experience a few weeks ago, but it required a trip to Brooklyn. Clemente's Maryland Crab house. The crabs were how I remembered them during all my summers spent on the Maryland shore growing up.
Pink Teacup
Hi All,
I have searched the board to see if anyone has tried the Pink Teacup since it reopened.
I used to LOVE the original, and the new space doesn't have any of the same feel. Also, the menu has changed a bit and the prices seem to have gone up. I was wondering if any one else has checked it out yet and what your thoughts were?
Thanks!
Where to take an 8-year-old budding foodie?
It has been my experience, that there is no restaurant that I wouldn't take a well-behaved child in NYC. I have found most everywhere I have taken my son welcomed him. He is now 12. That being said, Landmarc is a very fun dinner...and who doesn't love cotton candy at the end of a meal whether you're 8 or 80?

Challenge: Fun, Delicious, Inexpensive...possible?
Thanks! Any non-pizza suggestions? Figure $25pp not including drinks or tip and likely going for cupcakes somewhere else for dessert. It wouldn't hurt if there was a really good salad on the menu, or some sort of healthy option.
