Restaurant near LAX

Stayed in a hotel in the LAX area for awhile and I'd recommend Truxton's American Bistro for a get together. The food isn't anything to write home about but, it's a relatively nice place for what is around that area. If you're looking for something different, maybe also try Ayara Thai. Good luck!

Pit Fire Pizza

Which location did you go to? There's also one on Westwood Blvd., across the street from Califonia Chicken Cafe. Is this the same Pit Fire Pizza you're all raving about?

Best lunch in Beverly Hills

Mako on Beverly Dr. is open for lunch Wednesday through Friday. It is located across the street from Ruth's Chris. A few outdoor tables available. Food is excellent... just search the board. Or, even more casual, further down the street is Urth Cafe which serves up some decent lunch items, dessert, smoothies, coffee drinks, etc. Plenty of outdoor seating. Barney's Greengrass is supposed to be good but, I haven't had good food and its super snotty. Located on the top floor inside Barney's NY department store. There is some outdoor seating on the balcony.
Good luck with your search.

Gardena's plethora of Korean and Japanese!

I've recently started to work in the area of Gardena where there seems to be so many different Asian places to eat that I don't even know where to begin!
However, I have already delved into the following places: Santouka Ramen, Hakata Ramen/Shin Sen Gumi, Spoon House, Pho So 1, Kotohira, shin sen gumi robata style, and that one korean spicy tofu place on western where there is also a bank in the plaza...
sorry for all the lacks of names.
what are some other great places for korean and japanese???

updated ultimate list to a lot of different types of cuisine

does mon lan still exist? i haven't heard it mentioned in a long time and, how does it compare to lu gi's hot pot (on valley blvd)? is lu gi even the same "northern taiwanese" style??

updated ultimate list to a lot of different types of cuisine

I couldn't have said it better... Compartes is one of my most favorite chocolate shops in all of Los Angeles.

Sushi Zo new policy

I prefer omakase but in regards to your argument... why carry the a certain fish at all if its not at its finest? Why not just offer a chalkboard with what you have available and let the masses order?

Stuck in a hotel with no car... Four Points Sheraton LAX

Ended up having a friend come visit me one day (With a car) and we headed over to El Segundo.
For dinner, we ate at the Whole Foods (which by the way, is unlike ANY "grocery store" I've ever seen). They even had a wine bar with amazing charcuterie plates... loved it! I bought a lot of stuff while I was there because there is a refrigerator in the room (but no microwave).
Also ended up having some breakfast at The Palm Grill (?) in the hotel. I'd say, not bad for what they were charging but, I wouldn't come to the hotel just for that either.

For dinner, I had also ended up at the T.H. Brewster's in the hotel. They do have quite an amazing selection of beer for a hotel bar! I was extremely impressed!! I had some kind of Chimay and burger. The fries are really good... they're kind of like the seasoned curley fries you'd usually find. The "regular" curly fries have too much batter and not enough potato but, these fries at T.H. Brewster's 1) weren't curly 2) were a bit ticker (but not too thick and too potato-ey like steak fries) 4) didn't taste entirely like fried seasoned batter 3) were seasonsed quite nicely. Too bad there was no easy way for me to get out to Father's Office in Santa Monica!
Also went to Truxton's and Ayara Thai (both in the same plaza). Truxton's was pleasant as well as Ayara but, still, nothing to write home about. I certainly would not make a long drive to come to either of those places... which I guess means that they're not that chow-hound-ley...
I must say that I was very impressed by Fratelli's Steak House's burger. The person who came with me had a steak (which looked disgusting) but my burger was fantastic. Not much of an alcohol selection though. If only they had these burgers at T.H. Brewsters... now THAT would be perfect!
Also was lucky enough to get a ride out to Houston's. I love that place!! Found out that they don't charge corkage so, went came back another night with a bottle of wine purchased from Whole Foods. LOVE both places!!!
Thank you all for your suggestions... many of them helped in getting me to decent places.
I am not sure if anyone mentioned Whole Foods El Segundo but, that was my favorite find of all. It almost seemed like they had 7 different "restaurants" in the market. Each with their own table/sitting area. Great because you can pretty much have whatever you crave... whether it be Asian, Brazilian, Mexican, Italian, American... they even have an oyster bar. WOW. My favorite though was the wine bar where you can taste wines by the glass.
Will be back again in the same predicament in a couple of weeks but, this time, I'm only there for half a week. I'll report back again soon!

Stuck in a hotel with no car... Four Points Sheraton LAX

So, what is one to do for food when there is no transportation available? What's walking distance, and what's worth ordering delivery for? I'll be stuck there for almost an entire week so, the more suggestions, the merrier.
Thanks.

The OBar Restaurant review and... does anyone else make a better mojito?

Where is this place you're talking about? Could you please provide an address for me?
Thank you!

The OBar Restaurant review and... does anyone else make a better mojito?

Loved the place, the food, ambience, and service. We went because they are supposedly known for their mojitos.
We started out with two extremely large mojitos. They are expensive but, you get a lot of it. For Mojito lovers out there, they have quite a large selection of all kinds of mojitos. We had both the Mango and regular. The Mango Mojito was delicious, but the regular one was just boring... I think that since the strainer kept all the mint out, (and since mint was the only thing flavoring it) the drink was rather boring.
We both had the carrot ginger soup, which was extremely flavorful and generous in portions. We loved the soup! However, we wish there were more bits of ginger in it for us to to wrap our teeth around. Either way, the soup was wonderful.
I then had the burger, which was absolutely fantastic. The meat was so perfectly seasoned and cooked just the way I had asked them to. The fries came hot, crisp, and with this amazing mustard style sauce on the side. The mustard sauce bit not too hard but, just perfectly.
I had a bite of my dining partner's fried chicken. That was delicious as well. The batter on the chicken was great... a very buttery (in a buttermilk way) crusty well fried piece.
Overall, the food, drinks, and service was very good.
The only thing that disappointed was the regular mojito.
Who makes the best mojitos in Los Angeles?

My boss is going to hate me... please help stop my slide into deeper hell!

Al Noor and Al Watan both don't take AmEx

My boss is going to hate me... please help stop my slide into deeper hell!

Totally should have taken Taiko... I really really really regret not doing so. Boss LOVES Japanese too :( Didn't have time to check the posts until now. I'll know better to post for suggestions sooner next time :(
We ended up at Houston's where it was kind of loud. However, the food never really disappoints. It's very reliable. What I didn't like about taking my boss' boss to Houstons is that, there are tons of Houston's everywhere. He could've gone to Houston's at home! Not very hound-ish in nature as it is a pretty sizeable chain. However, a very good chain.
I had the burger and Tortilla soup, which was good. Boss had the vegetarian burger, which he LOVED. Boss' boss had the sushi salad, which he said was very good but, dang... if I had only taken him to Taiko maybe I would've gotten an even better review!!
Thanks again for all your help!
I'll know where to take these guys next time ;)

My boss is going to hate me... please help stop my slide into deeper hell!

Boss doesn't like El Pollo Inka. Ayara would be perfect but, is a little bit out of the way.
I'm kinda scared stiff about a possible long wait at Houstons. I love that place too!
Al Noor and Al Watan? hmmm... are they nice enough for a business lunch? I've never been!

My boss is going to hate me... please help stop my slide into deeper hell!

hahaha!! Scary is right. I will be sure to remind them that they are in the "desert wasteland" of decent chow-ish restaurants. My boss has been privy to my chowish nature but since his boss is coming along as well, it changes the game up a little. There's an immense amount of pressure because it seems like my boss looks forward to my finds, and so I feel like there's a certain expectation that I've created :(

My boss is going to hate me... please help stop my slide into deeper hell!

Boss and his boss are coming along for lunch. The pressure is on to find a decent place in an area where there is not a whole lot of decent places to begin with. Originally I wanted to take them to Hakata Ramen but boss said that it is WAY too casual for his boss. Boooo. Plus, it's not even close to the area we're going to be in.
I have been requested to look for a great (non-Italian) place for lunch in either Inglewood or Hawthorne, that is not TOO casual, AND takes American Express.
I've pondered taking them to either McCormick's, Houston's or something of that type in Hawthorne but, I think they're looking for something not so chain-y. They prefer Asian or Indian. This is impossible... I am about to tear out my hair. Please help!!!
