Best and Worst Recipes You Made From a Cooking Show

My worst has to be that Vodka pasta dish Rachel Ray claimed would make your boyfriend propose. Maybe it's because you have to be single to make this! We found it completely inedible. Actually, I've given away any of her cookbooks I've received--we never like the recipes. The best recipes have to be from Ina Garten (except for her new cookbook, which should be called "Cooking with Cheese"). Sorry to sound so negative--I have all of her cookbooks, and this one was by far the one I wished I never would have bought!

Authentic french fry cutter?

I have a friend who just returned from Paris, where he said he had "french" fries shaped like little boats that were slightly hollowed out. Does anyone know where I could find a potato cutter online that does this? I would like to give him one for the holidays. Maybe they do it by hand? Thanks!

Any favorite salt-free recipes?

Thanks. I've already tried your suggestions! Wondering if anyone has a favorite salt-free recipe you could share? I need to change up my repertoire.

Any favorite salt-free recipes?

Do you have a favorite salt-free recipe? By that, I mean no salt added to the recipe and most important, using ingredients that contain no salt (sodium chloride or potassium chloride). I've used a lot of salt substitutes, even making my own, to make some regular recipes taste better. Do you have any that taste great and never fail? Thanks!

Lunch in Fairfax--ideas????

Any ideas for a decent lunch in Fairfax? We're going to be near the Route 50 exit off the highway.

Lamb chops or Steak near Silver Spring for Big Birthday

We're driving up from NC to Silver Spring to celebrate my brother's big 60th. His favorite foods are prime rib, steak and lamb. The glitch, to all you "big city" folks, who are used to paying $50/meal, is that we aren't in that price group. Maybe $35/meal including the sides and that's pushing it for a dinner for 5. Is that even possible near Silver Spring? We can take the Metro into D.C., but want to avoid weekend traffic in Virginia. Any place we can take him where we won't be embarrassed to be the "poorer relations"? Thanks for your advise and help.

Meringue Apple Pie recipe--Eric Ripert?

Hope someone can help with this! I think it was Eric Ripert's show on PBS--all I can remember is that the chef was French and had his own restaurant (definitely not Pepin). He made his family's favorite, an apple meringue pie. I've been searching for the recipe and can't find it. It wasn't a traditional meringue on top like a lemon pie. Does anyone have the recipe or a link to it?
Thanks!
