Has anyone tried Chateau Steakhouse (Kosher) in Fresh Meadows yet?

The construction has been dragging out for a long time and they look like they are ready to open but no notice yet of any opening date. As I walk by each day I note that the inside looks very elegant.

Wonderful Lebanese in Forest Hills- Please Support Wafa's!

Just returned from a great meal at Wafa's. Wafa is a very engaging woman. You can sample the items before you decide. We each had a bowl of soup. Chicken noodle or Lentil. Both delicious. Then some hummus and some babaganoush. Great place. Inexpensive...Very eboullient lady... Worth a visit....

Upscale restaurants of Queens

Listing Uncle George"s as one of the top ten in Queens is difficult to understand. For the past ten years they seem to be on everyone's down hilll list. From the vinyl table covers to ordinary food (much of which is prepared in advance) they should not be considered as part of the Queens top restaurants. The portions are large and the prices are low and the service is mediocre.

Times Square Dinner - non-tourist, reasonable price

Why not take a walk over to 9th Avenue. There are plenty of interesting restaurants from 46th street to 52nd street on the Avenue. There is Island burger and shake, Renaissance diner and a host of others. You will not be dissappointed.

Buddy's Kosher Deli (73rd Ave, Bayside/Flushing/Oakland Gardens)?

All this talk abut good or bad pastrami without the mention of the Pastrami King near the court house on Queens Boulevard. Theirs was truly the best. Hand cut, not machine sliced. What could be better. They've been gone for some time now.

River Cafe, Brooklyn...any opinions?!

You can arrive by auto at the entrance, walk through an assault of wonderful flowers and plants, then to be seated having one of the best views a restaurant can offer in NYC. You will be so hyped up with all that I mentioned anything less than an A+ for the food could be accepted and handled by relaxing and enjoying the view.

Oaxaca for dummies

The absolute must in Oaxaca ia the Casa Oaxaca which is part of the small hotel of the same name. Chef Alejandro is the owner and chef. He is a very engaging man who will even give you one of his recipes for the evenings offerings. The restaurant is a little high priced but worth every peso.

Trying to understand what benefit you might derive if Sahadi had a member's club. Perhaps you could explain.

American Chowhounds with a week in Ireland

My mind seems to work in snips and pieces. Here is another good lunch spot. In Ballyvaughan -- County Clare is Monks Bar & Restaurant. The thing to order there is the Seafood Chowder. This was the best we had during our entire trip. Combined with the delicious brown bread it is a superior lunch.

American Chowhounds with a week in Ireland

Just remembered another good eating spot. If you are in the vicinity of Athlone, there is a small cafeteria that the locals seem to pack elbow to elbow during lunch. It is on a main street in Athlone called Savoury Fare. If you're in the vicinity eat there.

American Chowhounds with a week in Ireland

We were in Ireland in September. On the way to Galway we went through the town of Ennis. In Ennis on O'Connell street there is a fine restaurant called The Town Hall. It is in a historic building which once was the Ennis Town Hall. The choices and preparation were very good with excellent service. Give it a try.

Popovers?

Making popovers is quite easy.
A basic cookbook will give you a recipe as follows:
One cup of milk, one cup of flour, three eggs, spoon of oil, dash of salt, beat together, pour in muffin tin, then bake at high temp of 475 degrees for twenty minutes, followed by reduction of heat to 375 degrees for another twenty minutes.
You can now open up your own bakery.

Connie's - Richmond Hill

Connie's, a red sauce italian has long been closed, but they existed for many years with their signature dish "Fried Ziti". Has anyone who remembers Connie's found that dish at any other restaurant?

Where to go for food and adventures in Mexico?

Just to comment on the conversion of MX$20, would be about US$1.90 currently and not US$2.50.

Patzcuaro & Morelia dining adventures

Just returned from our 6th annual trip to colonial Mexico. This year it was Guanajuato, the recommended restaurants are posted under the Guanajuato/SanMiguel header. Last year we were in Patzcuaro during "Dia de Los Muertos" and had great food at CHA CHA CHA. They make a great guacamole salad. We had it at every meal. In addition as another post said go to Mistongo. Try the tortilla soup all over Mexico. Enjoy your trip.

Guanajuato and San Miguel

We just returned after spending 11 days in Guanajuato during the Cervantino Festival. The eating experiences were many and varied. The best was El Abue, an upscale restaurant which had a super filet mignon for $129 mexican pesos (US$ 12.50) done with mushrooms and mashed potatoes and a mixed side salad. A super bargain. In addition we enjoyed the chiles nagado in a light cream sauce and the lasagna bolognase. We also enjoyed eating at Truco 7 which is a local favorite serving more traditional dishes. Not to be missed there are the tortilla soup and the fruit salad plate.

Dinner as Wedding Present

a wonderful wedding present dinner would be Chanterelle on Harrison Stret. Although not Manhattan, just cross over the Brooklyn Bridge and you are at River Cafe where the view is an added dimension.
