Thoughts on Bombay Club

I will give a report. I have eaten Bayona once before, and I enjoyed it very much. -- And definitely going for a Pimm's cup at Nap's. I remember it fondly.

The Real Thing

Thanks, yes, I was on their website, and saw they were moving. This will be my first time at Rock & Bowl -- didn't get there last couple of trips. Do you hear good things about it since they moved?

How long is the wait at Galatoire's if you get there at 10 a.m.?

The Real Thing

The possible itinerary now is:

Wed. Eve: Bayona (or something cheap depending on finances)
Thursday Afternoon: Lunch at Commader's
Thursday Eve: Zydeco Night at Rock and Bowl (have casual food there)
Friday Afternoon: Lunch at Galatoire's
Friday Evening: --- Somthing Cheap

Thoughts on Bombay Club

Thanks so much!

I've made a reservation at Bayona. And we'll see how things go. We'll either do that, or maybe stop in at Napolean House or something else low key that evening. I'm sure we'll take advantage of the bar at Bombay during our stay.

Thoughts on Bombay Club

I think you're right. The prices are almost the same, and I have eaten at Bayona once before, and it was terrific. So I think it will either be that, or we go for something cheap! :)

Best Breakfast in New Orleans

Yummm... that sounds sooo good. Strongly considering dropping my bags off at the hotel on Sunday and going straight there for breakfast. --- How hard will they laugh at me if we end up coming there for dinner too?

Cuvee or Luke?

Thank you!

Thank you! It seems most people agree that Cuvee is better. My boss was originally leaning toward Luke, which she thought would be "less stuffy."

Is she right? How do the two restaurants rate on the "stuffiness" factor?

Thoughts on Bombay Club

My upcoming trip is about a week long -- the first part is work, the second is play.

The play part starts Wednesday, with a move to the Prince Conti. My friend will be flying in to meet me. I'll be coming from working at the convention center.

I'm thinking we may both be tired, and I thought we might just take it easy and eat at the Bombay Club, since it's in the hotel. So I'm weighing ease and comfort against the realities of a very short trip.

What are your thoughts on the Bombay Club? Is it good enough to spend a precious evening's dinner on?

The Real Thing

I know. But it still worked somehow. Made me feel good, even though I knew it was the magic of technology.

The Real Thing

Thank you! I've reserved Commander's for lunch in the Garden room. I was amazed that when I made the reservation, they remembered that my party had been seated in the kitchen last time we were there! That's good customer relations!

Cuvee or Luke?

It could be either, as long as it's not super noisy. I think we're looking for a really lovely dinner that reflects the unique character of New Orleans in some way.

Originally I was trying to be very financially conservative, so I suggested EAT -- but I think she was going for something more high-end, so I thought of Luke and Cuvee.

Cuvee or Luke?

I just found out that my co-worker and I are going to be treated by our boss to Sunday dinner when we arrive this weekend. I've been asked to select the restaurant.

So far, I've come up with Cuvee and Luke. Cuvee is more expensive, but I think it's within the range of possibility. I called, and they are going to be open this Sunday because of Jazzfest.

Which do you think is the better choice? Or... other suggestions for Sunday evening.

Thanks for your help!

The Real Thing

Should I ammend that to best recommended dinner and best recommended lunch, whether high or low end? I'd love to hear the unrestrained version!

Sunday Solo

Just checked the Luke's site, and it looks ideal! I called and checked, and it seems they are open all day on Sunday, with their regular menu. Thanks for the tip!

The Real Thing

I've been up and back about what to choose for a short period of free time in New Orleans. I was originally very intrigued by Stella and August as perhaps the two best restaurants, from what I've read on this board.

But since I have such a short stay, I want to make sure that I go places that have cuisine that I can't get in New York City.

So, if you had to choose the one best high-end dinner and one best high-end lunch that were uniquely New Orleans, what would they be?

Dinner: could be Wed., Thurs., or Friday eveing
Lunch: could be Thurs. or Friday.

Sunday Solo

I just checked the Emeril's website, and they don't seem to be open for lunch on Sundays.

Sunday Solo

I'll be coming in this Sunday, and will have the day to spend on my own. I'd love to start the week out right with a wonderful lunch. I know there are a limited number of places open on Sunday. Can you recommend some that would be open, and that would be comfortable for a female dining alone?

Thanks!! Can't wait to be in your wonderful city again!

Susan

Thank you- Long report

Bill --- is there any chance you would be able or willing to post or give a link to one of your brilliant maps? I'll be spending some time alone in the city, and would benefit greatly from something like that!

Three nights and two days -- seeking advice from NOLA mavens

I’m traveling to NOLA on business, and will have just three nights/two days carved out after the convention to enjoy the city. That leaves three dinners and two lunches. I would love some advice.

I’d like to try some new places. Places I have already visited include: Commander’s Palace, Brigstens, Bayona, K-Paul, Peristyle, Upperline, Elizabeth’s, Antoine’s, Irene’s

We’re staying at the Prince Conti, which is on Conti and Bourbon, so definitely want to stay in the Quarter the first night. I’m guessing we are both going to be whooped, so we don’t want too work to hard that night.

Wednesday night:

Possibilities:

1. Stella! Currently, I have a reservation for a late seating, since my friend who is joining me will be flying in that evening.

2. Something else really great but very near the hotel or at least in the Quarter? (I think Bayona is very close by, but I have been there before, and thought I’d like to do something I haven’t already tried.)

3. Bombay Club (IN the hotel itself – but probably not a stellar choice for such a short trip – though it would give us the chance to relax and stay put.)

Thursday:

We’re planning on Rock and Bowl Zydeco that evening, so our big meal would be lunch.

I was thinking Commander’s Palace (though I have been there twice – I have never gone for lunch – and the 25-cent martinis!) – But I’m open for suggestions.

Friday:

Looking for suggestions for lunch and dinner: (one or the other would have to be on the cheap side)

Was thinking Galatoire’s, for the quintessential experience – but I’m wondering whether it’s worth having food that many here have described as not so special for $100 a person on a short visit.

I’d also love to know what do you all consider the truly greatest NOLA restaurants? Just your top two or three?

Thanks so much for your help. I love hearing from all of you experts!

Susan

Galatoire's Advice

A friend and I will be visiting in early May, just after the end of Jazzfest.

I've never been to Galatoire's before, and I'm very excited. I've heard that Friday lunch is the quintessential time to go -- and so far, that's what we're planning. (We will not be in NOLA during the weekend.)

A few questions to you experts:

Would you recommend Friday lunch as the best option?
How dressy do women get for lunch at Galatoires?
About how much should we expect the tab to be per person?
What, in your opinion, are the "must-orders" at Galatoires?

Thanks so much for your help and advice!

Quick trip to NOLA report

There was a mention early in this thread about the lines at Cafe du Monde. I was under the impression that there is generally no actual "line" -- that people just assume they have to line up because they are used to doing so. Instead, you simply go through the back and find yourself a table. But obviously, I could be wrong. Thoughs on this?
