Churrascaria Copacabana opinions
Thanks for the advice! We checked it out Sunday, and I think the party is a go. Liza, you might not want to go when we're there!! :) While I will try to keep the animals at the table, it might be hard!
Churrascaria Copacabana opinions
I am looking for a churrascaria in lower Fairfield County/Westchester for my daughter's birthday. She loved Plataforma, but going into the city with a bunch of girls isn't an option. Is Copacabana good? I don't see much about it on the boards here, which of course worries me. She will be 10.
Thanks!

ISO of the unusual in the Westport-Norwalk area
Valencia is great, but it's BYO, so just don't forget to bring it! Also, they recently opened Bodega in Fairfield. Valencia is better, but Bodega serves drinks.
Upper Valley/Woodstock dining recommendations wanted
Looking for a fun, nice, and good place for 3 couples for dinner next weekend. I called Pane e Salute last week, but we are on the waiting list.
Where else? Is Elixir good these days? Parker House? Prince & the Pauper? Anything new?
This is a yearly event and we've been to Carpenter & Main and Simon Pearce (would rather not repeat).
Thanks!

Carpenter & Main
326 Main St, Norwich, VT 05055
Simon Pearce Restaurant
1760 Quechee Main St., Quechee, VT 05059
White River Junctio n, VT, Hanover, Lebanon, NH
Wanted to add my two cents. We are summer/weekenders in Quechee.
Simon Pearce is good, not great, but it's a wonderful experience.
Bentley's is good for kids or a quick bite, but don't expect to be wowed. (Firestone's too.) I do kind of like the onion soup.
We liked Elixir in it's previous life, haven't tried the new one. And haven't gotten to Tip Top either. (But loved the Polka Dot!)
Yama is good, but it does depend on what you order. As a Korean-American friend said, it's good, but not Yonkers.
Lou's in Hanover--not open for dinner--is great!
Mountain Creamery in Woodstock is good food with sometimes surly service.
Dana's is fabulous!!
Wasps===someone asked about this. We have a joke about it never being opened. We've managed to hit it once and it was really good. Lately, we've seen it open more, but always at the wrong times for us.
Farmer's Diner is hit or miss, but mostly miss. I want it to be better, but it's just not. Really inconsistent and poorly managed. I can't believe they are supposedly opening in NYC!
The best food I've had in the area--not diner/pub type--is Pane Salute or Allechante.
Of course now I want to try 7 Barrels. It doesn't look like the type of place that would be good, but it does get high marks on this board.
Good to see some talk about this area!
Quick! Need good restaurant for Saturday night--Westchester
We're going to try f.i.s.h. Will report back! Thanks! Have to keep the others in mind next time.
Quick! Need good restaurant for Saturday night--Westchester
We were thinking of the Batali place, but didn't get a reservation in time.
What else in the Port Chester/Rye area for dinner for 4 (two couples). We also were considering Azuma Sushi in Hartsdale, but it's a little fast.
So, what's good that I could get a reservation now?
Thanks!

Great Cakes in Westport?
Great Cakes is really spotty. Sometimes its cakes are very good, sometimes bad. I do like the cinnamon twists though.
Sono Bakery is delicious, but I found the decoration very expensive. If you can do a simple decoration that's the place, but for my daughter's little mermaid cake the mermaid was the most expensive part of the cake. (IT WAS GREAT though!)
People like Sweet Cakes in Fairfield, but I like Sono better.

Excellent breakfast dives in coastal Fairfield County, CT?
I hear Home on the Range in Fairfield/BlackRock is good, but I haven't been. If you want to go further inland, Bluebird Inn in Easton (exit 44 off the Merritt) is pretty good.
Reggie.
Burlington/UVM
I was just there. I recommend American Flatbread, but it is really just pizza, which she'll be having a lot of! We also went to Three Tomatoes, which I thought was better than I expected (from this board). I do not recommend Sweetwaters!
Wilson's BBQ (Fairfield, CT) on DDD Tonight
I'm definitely not a connisseur of bbq, but I think Wilson's is the meatiest with the least amount of gristly fat around. The Cookhouse (at least in Darien) seems very ordinary, like a chain, and the food is often cold. Again, I can't compare types or anything, just my own opinion!
suggestion for good road food on Rt 91 in Vermont from the Mass. border to White River Junction, Vt.?
Try Fat Franks in Bellows Falls. Great dogs & burgers, great coffee, great fries! Next door is Little Miss Bellows Falls Diner, not great food, but a fun place.
Further up is Windsor Diner in Windsor. We like the food there. Windsor has a few other spots, but I haven't been.
Wilson's BBQ (Fairfield, CT) on DDD Tonight
I'm not a fan of the cookhouse. I like Wilson's better. Ribs seem to have more personality than at the cookhouse, and I love the chicken. I do think the staff is not as helpful or nice as they could be.
Best Brunch Spots (Fairfield County - CT)?
For a different type of brunch, try Valenica Luncheria in Norwalk--Venezuela beach food. I've always enjoyed the eggs they have! And almost everything else!
I remember growing up Bluebird Inn in Easton was always fun for brunch, but I haven't been in so long.
Both of these are really casual.
Where to eat in CT along 15 or 84?
Depends on the kids, but Barcelona in Fairfield, right off exit 44 on Rte. 15 is a good bet. My kids like it, and the Fairfield location is the most kid-friendly.
Anyone know of a good maple syrup & cheese farm to visit in VT?
I agree with Sugarbush farm. Really great.
Looking for great fish in Murray Hill
Does anyone have any suggestions for a great lunch of fish/seafood in Murray Hill? I am open to ethnic, but would probably want to stay away from Indian and French.
Thanks!
The Schoolhouse Restaurant
We recently tried Schoolhouse for the first time and loved it! I cannot remember exactly what we had, but I do remember a polenta that was great! Oh, and lobster papardelle. The chef obviously knows what he's doing and wants to please. All around a great place that I can't wait to get back to.

Red Rooster/Woodstock Inn, VT
I hear the new restaurant in the Woodstock Inn is good. Does anyone have any reports on it?
Thanks!
Vermont Cheese Makers
They also age & flavor the cheese. It comes to them in liquid form (although they used to make it all...) We love Sugarbush Farm! And FYI, Balducci's is now carrying a simple cheddar from them.
Ole Mole Stamford going downhill fast...
I miss those quesadilla containers too! I always get the Sedona take out and lately it's been a soggy mess. Oh, I think they are using more cheese and less other stuff!
Upper Valley VT/NH Gems
Is Parker House ok for kids if we went early? They are 4 and 6. I want to try it, but can't get away without the kiddos!
Thanks.

Grilled Corn w/Cotija Cheese and Chili in Stamford/Norwalk/Port Chester?
They sometimes have it as a special at Villa del Sol in Westport.
Birthday Cake for 2 year old
Well, if you don't mind pricey, try Sono Bakery. Very good cake...and beautiful design. But, be aware--the design will probably cost as much as the cake, depending on the size. We did an Ariel cake for my daughter's 3rd birthday and it was beautiful and delicious.
Another try might be Great Cakes in Westport, which was good in the past, seemed to fall a bit, but lately might be getting better again.
Also, Sweet Cakes in Fairfield gets some good reviews, but I've never had it there.

Indian Grocery Store in or around Stamford
Not Stamford, but there is one off exit 14 in Norwalk. I've never been in, so I don't know the quality.

jfood--about Basso...
I replied to your note under the Tres Leches Cake....Here's the link...

I am eager to hear what you think.

Where to get Tres Leches Cakes in FFD or Westchester
jfood,
Basso is a little place, as you know, in a spot that hasn't done well in the past. Hopefully, they'll make it. They're lunches are quite good (you can order from the dinner menu at lunch too). The chef is Italian and Venezuelan and is cooking from his background. I think his flavorings are very good--usually more subtle, but tasty.
Renato, the chef, I think used to work at Habana. He's very eager to learn and is accommodating. He said his Thurs. Fri. and Sat. nights are very busy, but lunches are very quiet.
It might help him to have a liquor license, although that doesn't stop Valencia around the corner. I think the difference though is that Basso is going for a little more refined, which means serving wine rather than having customers bring it. (IMHO)
Hope that helps! Try it out and let us know what you think!

who does clam bakes in fairfield/westchester area?
Outdoor Cookers in Norwalk does great clambakes! We've had them 2x do them, and we always get raves about all the food. People are nice too. (We've used them for non-clambakes too, so we really like them.)
Have fun!

farms/cheese/maple in VT,NH around I89 for roadtrip Boston to VT
It was already mentioned, but Sugarbush Farm in Woodstock is a very nice little farm. It's definitely not gourmet in feel, but it does have tasty cheese and maple syrup. Definitely try the cheese spread. I know people who cannot keep it in the house anymore b/c it's so good. A definite guilty pleasure.
