Agua de Jamaica (Hibiscus Punch)

Just an interesting question....

Is Jamaica the same as Sorrel? I think Sorrel is from Either Trinidad or Jamaica(the country) and includes ginger, whereas Jamaica as served in Mexico has no ginger. but...I'm not sure if that's right because my relatives from Trinidad swear that Sorrel is not Hibiscus.

Staying in Orlando at the Doubletree on Major Blvd

Pollo Pio Pio is a nice place on Kirkman just South of I-Drive on the left- they have Peuvian Pollos a la Brasa. It's kind of a small place but they've been there a very long time now(something not usual for the area). Everything I've had here is good.

The Ravenous Pig is a great choice and at least you'll get to see the real city on the way. I don't care for Citrus. As for Tu Tu Tango, they have the selection to keep the meal interesting. I don't think the flavor is that over the top good, but it's a worthy choice.

I know it's a chain but I also like Texas de Brasil. Their Picanha'c are great, but I'm really impressed by their salad bar and soups (usually feijoada)

Yes, I agree, they're everywhere in CA. and in AZ, NM and just about every other state in the union.

I've still never seen one in Mexico, which makes me wonder where they come from. My guess is Sonora, but as much as I've been around there, still no

I'm just sayin...

I did. They're too busy making these. You could use these for burritos de machaca.

To be honest, I can't see the fascination with burritos (other than machaca). I still have NEVER seen a burrito in Mexico (other than machaca).

If you can hold meat, cheese, pico de gallo, and everything you need in a taco, why the necesity to go large. Just buy two taco totes...

640 S Dillard St in Winter Garden, it's called El Tadeo next to Bravo.

Bravo is a great store too.

They only have one size, none for burritos...

My only option before I found this place was to make my own, but these are just as good in my opinion.

Here is what flour tortillas SHOULD look like.

I get these in Winter Garden, FL, the only place I've found in FL that has these....

These have plenty of "manteca" that crisps up when you heat them on a grill, and they taste amazing. Don't settle for the ones in your MegaMart

Corn tortillas...soften in oil or not?

I always do this step, but mostly because it's how I learned. I think it helps with the elasticity of the tortilla. In Mexico, I've seen some of my favorite cooks, dip the tortilla in the oil and then into some of the enchilada sauce quickly.

Either way, I would just do the step anyway. It probably helps cooking the tortilla and making sure it doesn't dry out in the oven.

I love tajin.

It reminds me of the mixture you get when they sell you fresh fruit in Mexico. They slice the fruit(my favs being mango, Jicama, and pineapple), then they put lime, salt and chili powder on it. Tajin has basically all of this in the bottle just dry.

I use it on my Jicama Slaw at my place...

Fish Tacos...Tavares??? yep

I found this thread by searching for my own site on google- cool site:

I'm the owner of MexiCali and I just wanted to say hello.

I'm only open 5PM-12Am Thurs-Fri like my website says. I feel like our options on the menu are very different than anything currently offered in the area, and the reason the menu is limited is due to the fact that I too am a chowhound, and if I can't do something exactly how I want to, I won't do it at all.

Our test openings have gone great and we'll be open this weekend the 27th at 5. We operate inside of Gracie's but we have a totally separate menu and decor. Later on we will be open more nights of the week.

Any questions, feel free to ask me here. I'm not trying to advertise here or anything, but just thought I'd join the community!
