Blue Anchor

I'm considering bringing a crew into the city Friday afternoon. I haven't been to Spruce Street Harbor Park yet. Can anyone comment on the food at the Blue Anchor? I'm wondering about quality and an approximate price for their burgers, as I would need to communicate that info in advance. Thanks!

What are the most romantic restaurants in central and western Montgomery County?

I was at Parc Bistro many years ago. I really enjoyed it, but my palate was much less refined than it is now. How do you rate their food?

I was very unimpressed with dinner at William Penn, but we loved their brunch.

I've heard others recommend desserts from Wegman's. I need to check them out.

This is my kind of discussion! I look forward to reading the responses.

I love the vanilla bean cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory.

Puerto Jarocho on Marshall St in Norristown has delicious and inexpensive tres leches that they sell by the slice.

Zwahlen's in Audubon has delicious ice cream. I've heard their chocolates are good as well, but I've never tried them.

Two years ago we went to Zacharias Creek Side Cafe in Worcester for dessert one night, and we had some tasty desserts. I can't remember the details of what we ordered, and I have no idea if they still have the same pastry chef. It's a nice atmosphere, and they didn't seem to mind that we came in just for dessert.

Pumpernick's in Montgomeryville is a Jewish deli that has some tasty desserts. They inspired me to create my own cheesecake topped with chocolate mousse.

I don't know if is technically dessert, but the pain au chocolat at Alice in North Wales is amazing. I can't vouch for any of their other pastries or chocolates because I'm obsessed with the pain au chocolat and have no interest in expanding my horizons. We really enjoy the breads we've purchased from them as well.

bakeries or restaurants for dessert in the evening?

Great ideas. Thanks, everyone!

bakeries or restaurants for dessert in the evening?

I was just looking at Philly dessert threads and noticed that most of the discussions are two or more years old, so I thought I would start a new one. I'm wondering what places would you recommend for a sit down dessert on a Friday night. A friend just asked me for recommendations, and I realized that many of my favorite dessert options aren't available in the evening.

Rosa Blanca

Hmmm... I guess we'll have to watch and see what happens. Clearly even the big names like Garces are not immune to the new restaurant struggles.

So... maybe I should try Alma sometime, but I shouldn't expect it to take care of my Cuban food craving.

Oops! Sorry for asking a question that had already been answered! The thread didn't fully load the first time, so it showed me the original message without any replies. Now I can see the discussion.

Can you be any more specific on the "not cheap" comment? I'm interested in checking it out, but I'm frustrated that they don't appear to have a website where I can get a sense of their ambiance and prices.

Rosa Blanca

I've been to Cuba Libre for Sun brunch but haven't tried Alma de Cuba. Do you like it? I've seen mixed reviews and didn't want to be disappointed.

I wish I had the time and money to fly to Miami, stuff myself with Cuban food for a few days, and get this craving out of my system.

Rosa Blanca

Thanks for detailed review. I'll definitely avoid the juices!

I love Tierra Colombiana, but we always go with our South American friends and order Colombian food. I thought about trying their Cuban offerings, but I was hesitant because I wasn't happy with the Cuban food we ordered at Mixto, its sister restaurant. Maybe I should try it.

The Dandelion Pub was Fantastic!

I'm not French. I simply wish I were. I haven't been to France for a few years, but if my memory serves me right, Alice in North Wales has the most authentic baguette and pain au chocolat that I've had in the US. They have some other delicious breads as well.

Rosa Blanca

I just learned about the new Rosa Blanca restaurant by the Garces group. Has anyone checked it out yet? I've been craving some Ropa Vieja for a while and haven't found a Cuban restaurant in the area yet that makes one I like. I'm also open to opinions on other Cuban restaurants in Philly if anyone has a favorite spot or dish.

Vernick Food and Drink - has anyone been there?

I think you're absolutely right about not basing anything on one visit. When we were at Vernick on a Friday night in June, we sat by the window upstairs and had a peaceful, quiet meal. Evidently, we shouldn't base our future expectations on that one visit though.

Vernick Food and Drink - has anyone been there?

For those still searching this board for info about Vernick, I want to share that my husband and I went there for the first time last night to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. The experience was wonderful. The food was delicious. I would go back in a heartbeat. I highly recommend it!

family friendly dinner in or around Ocean City, NJ

We're headed to Ocean City for 2 days and really don't know the area at all. On our last night, we want to take the kids out to dinner either in town or on the way back toward Philadelphia. I've searched this board and the internet generally and have not found much discussion about dinner options in the area. Most of the recommended places are only breakfast/lunch options. Our kids appreciate good food, and we don't take them out for dinner often, so I'd really like to find something we'll all enjoy. We'll be coming off the beach, so I'm not looking for fancy - just good food. Does anyone have any suggestions?

searching for Upper Bucks restaurant inspiration

I'm intrigued by what I've read about Tara. I wish they had a website! Is it more casual or fine dining? Can you give me an idea of what it would cost for 2 to have dinner with wine?

This discussion has been really helpful. Now I have a good list to work from whenever a holiday hits and I'm stuck for a gift idea for my mom (which is nearly every holiday).

Thanks so much, everyone!

They're just below Quakertown, so Easton is a little far. I'm going to make a note of it though for future reference.

These options look great. Thanks, everyone! I love having a variety of casual and fancier options.

On the casual end, has anyone been to Hickory Kitchen in Doylestown? I came across their menu earlier and don't know anything about it.

searching for Upper Bucks restaurant inspiration

My parents live in upper Bucks County, and I'm always looking for gift ideas for them. Restaurant gift cards are something my mom appreciates, but I'm stuck on ideas in the Doylestown / Souderton / Quakertown area.

Here's the big problem: I'm looking for fresh, good quality food but nothing too exotic. While Maize in Perkasie and Honey in Doylestown would be fun for me, my mom would have a tough time finding options she'd like on their menus. Then she'd lament the high cost of the meal.

Can anyone recommend simple, tasty, not-too-pricey restaurant options in upper Bucks County?

best montgomery county farmers' markets for produce

If the list represents the usual suspects, it overlaps a lot with my local market. I might still check it out sometime, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra driving. Let me know what you think.

Though I do love any excuse to buy pain au chocolat from Alice. My mouth waters just thinking about it!

fun family dinner in Jim Thorpe/Allentown area

Trip report: After a wonderful day exploring, we went to Roadies at Penn's Peak. We had made a reservation for dinner on the deck, so we enjoyed a beautiful view while we dined. As previously mentioned, the food was typical pub fare. We all order sandwiches. Everything we tried was tasty, and the prices were very reasonable. It's not fine dining, but it's a fun way to unwind after a day outdoors. I would definitely recommend it to others. Thanks, teddybare!

I don't have any pictures of our meal, but here's the view from the deck.
