Blue Eagle's Profile
Byron, Georgia? - Help me thrill my folks
Georgia Bob's Barbecue or Casa Mexico are both good choices in Byron.
Good eats between Atlanta and Orlando?
Buckner's Family Restaurant just off I-75 at exit 201 in Georgia is known for their fried chicken and peach cobbler.
And a good dessert stop would be at Lane Southern Orchards in Fort Valley, Georgia. It is just a few minutes away from I-75. Tasty peach cobbler is always available. Strawberries are in season until the end of May, so strawberry cobbler is an option at this time of the year. Pecan pie is another good choice.

Fish camp or Southern/Soul food near statesboro, waynesboro, swainsboro for lunch Thursday?
Coleman's Lake is not an option for lunch, as it is only open in the evening.
Taylor's Barbecue in Waynesboro has been recommended to me, although I have not tried it yet. It features a buffet with good Southern home cooking.

Breakfast in Macon, GA??
On the north side of Macon, J. Christopher's is just off the Interstate near the Bass Pro Shops.

In downtown Macon, the Market City Café on Cherry St. is a nice place for breakfast or the H&H Restaurant for a soul food breakfast. These two places are only a few minutes off I-75 (but don’t take the I-475 bypass around Macon for these two).

is there anything to eat near perry, ga?
Perry has lots of good places. A good lunch stop is Yoder's Sandwich Shoppe. It has a nice selection of sandwiches including roast beef panini, grilled ham & cheese, chicken salad, and clubs.
The Oil Lamp Restaurant is a good choice for country cooking for lunch or dinner.
http://home.earthlink.net/~white_and_gold/Oil_Lamp.htm
And Yoder’s Deitsch Haus near Montezuma is a local favorite for Mennonite cooking. It is only about 20 miles or so from Perry.
Macon GA
Pig in a Pit is a good choice for BBQ. It is just off I-75 at Exit 172 (1687 Bass Road) in north Macon.
lunch in Macon, GA
Macon’s most famous lunch spot is Nu-Way Weiners on Cotton Avenue.
http://www.nu-wayweiners.com/
Or for some good fried chicken, try the Bear’s Den near Mercer
Warner Robins/Macon Area?
Warner Robins does have a lot of Mexican restaurants. Casa Mexico is a good choice.
Georgia Bob’s has the best barbecue in Warner Robins. If you are going in the evening, I would go to their new location in Byron.
Santina’s is a nice place for Italian:
http://www.santinasitalian.com
I’m not sure about Caribbean. A new place called Tropical Flava opened south of Macon a few months ago. It appears to be decent, but I haven’t been there.
The Greek Village on Russell Parkway in Warner Robins is popular and has a mixed menu of Mediterranean and American.
I like to eat at Miss Piggy’s BBQ near Fort Valley (west of Warner Robins). A Cuban family from Florida bought it and they added Cuban sandwiches and home-cooked Cuban plates to the menu. I always get a Cuban plate. It closes early (maybe 7 pm), so I would check the hours before going.
Good Eats in Macon, Georgia??
If you are on an expense account, Marco’s Ristorante Italiano or Natalia’s are two of the best restaurants in Macon.

For lunch or breakfast in downtown Macon, the Market City Café is a good choice.
Ingleside Village Pizza has the best pizza in Macon.
On the north side of Macon, J. Christopher's is a good place for breakfast or lunch. I love their grilled Pimento Cheese sandwich for lunch. Another good choice in this area is Pig in a Pit BBQ.
Len Berg’s went out of business a few years ago, so it is not an option.
And June is peach season in Georgia, so be sure and go to Lane Southern Orchard near Fort Valley or Dickey Farms near Musella for peaches, ice cream and other treats.
You didn’t really say what you were looking for. If you have any other questions, I will try to answer.
Suggestions for Road Food on 1-75, I-24, I-70

Breakfast in Macon
The H & H Restaurant (famous for its connection with the Allman Brothers) is open for breakfast on Saturday and is close to Mercer as well.
Good eats along GA-FL Parkway and I-75 to Atlanta?
This link to BBQ and other Southern food along I-75 should be helpful.
http://home.earthlink.net/~white_and_gold/I-75_Central_Georgia.htm
I just ate at the new Whistle Stop Café in Macon just off I-75 and was pleasantly surprised. We had fried chicken and salmon patties and they were very good. Plus I loved my homemade roll, but did not try any of their desserts.
Suggestions for Macon/Warner Robins area?
I am fond of Miss Piggy Bar-B-Que, which is just east of Fort Valley on Ga. 49. But I have never tried the bbq there. A Cuban couple from Florida bought the place and added Cuban plates and sandwiches to the menu. It is very good home-style Cuban cooking, as one of the Latinos who was eating there told me that it was “real” Cuban food.
I also like Emilio’s Cuban Café, which is just south of the Air Force base on Hwy. 247.
Uniquely Georgia Cuisine?
"No one in Georgia ever served fried green tomatoes until that movie came out. That dish is a pretender in Georgia."
Not true. Fried green tomatoes have been around Georgia for as long as I can remember. My Georgia family served them long before the Fried Green Tomato book and movie came out. I especially remember them in the autumn as a way to use up the green tomatoes at the end of the growing season.
It is true that lots of Southern restaurants added them to their menu after the movie popularized fried green tomatoes.
between macon and savannah
Ware's bbq is definitely some good stuff.
The second location (Ware's Old Mill) is new, so I have no idea if it is as good as the original location.

Some good choices are:
In Dublin, either the Blue Plate Restaurant for Southern food or Southern Heritage Bar-B-Que

or
Ware's in Swainsboro

50th Anniversary in Warner Robbins ,Ga
The Langston House just south of Warner Robins is very nice and would be a good choice. However, it is expensive.

GA - what is in season this week??? (mid sept)
This is the best time of the year to buy some boiled peanuts. The best are made from green peanuts, which are only available at harvest time. The new crop of peanuts in Georgia is currently being harvested.
Also, scuppernongs/muscadines are in season now.
First time in Georgia and at the Big Pig Jig - suggestions?
The thing to remember about the Big Pig Jig is that it is a BBQ cooking competition, not an eating festival per se. The only time visitors get to sample the competition BBQ is from 12:00 - 2:00 pm on Saturday. Here is a link to the 2007 Schedule of Events:
http://www.bigpigjig.com/schedule.htm
I was in the Carrollton area recently and ate at Bilbo’s BBQ in Bremen. It was very good and has more on the menu than BBQ. Bremen is just north of Carrollton.
On your trip to Vienna, this link gives a lot of good food possibilities:

Cafeteria style "Trout Almandine?"
K&W Cafeterias in the Carolinas still have Trout Almandine on the menu occasionally.

Suggestions in South Georgia (noncoastal)?
One warning to those who have been to the New Perry restaurant in the past. The New Perry Hotel restaurant has changed. In May 2007, the New Perry Hotel hired a European chef. Southern food is no longer featured. The menu now revolves around fine dining/hotel food.
Romantic Restaurant near East Dublin, GA
Coleman Lake Restaurant east of Dublin (near Midville ) is one possibility.
http://home.earthlink.net/~white_and_gold/Coleman_Lake.htm
Another possibility is the Dublin Farm. They serve authentic Italian food on Friday and Saturday evenings. I have not been there, but I read an article about it in a magazine and it sounded like a good place.
http://www.dublinfarm.com/pages/en_03.asp
Milledgeville, Macon Georgia Area
Choby's Landing is north of Milledgeville near Lake Sinclair. It is a popular steak and seafood place. I have driven by it on US 441, but have not eaten there.
Sylvia's Grill must be a new place, as I have never heard of it. A web search only shows one result. Someone wrote on their Blog that they knew someone who really likes Sylvia's Grill.
I don’t go to Milledgeville very often. So if you have a family friend there, they probably are more knowledgeable about it than me.
Milledgeville, Macon Georgia Area
119 Chops in downtown Milledgeville would be a good choice.

Perry, Ga.
Here a link that shows what the Horseshoe looks like:

Perry, Ga.
It really depends on what days and meals that you are planning on eating there.
For lunch on Saturday, Judy’s Sandwich Shoppe is a nice place to eat in Perry. It closes at 2:30 on Saturday and is closed for the remainder of the weekend.
For dinner on Saturday, you could eat at Yoder’s Mennonite restaurant in the country near Montezuma. It would be about a 20 mile drive from Perry. It closes at 8 pm on Saturday and is not open on Sunday.
On Sunday for either breakfast or lunch, I would go to Tom & Sandy’s Horseshoe restaurant in Hawkinsville. This is one of my favorite restaurants in middle Georgia for good Southern country cooking. It would be a country drive of 20 miles or so. The Horseshoe is not open in the evening.
The Swanson Restaurant is Perry is another good choice. It is a little more upscale than the other places, but there are several blue plate specials available. I ate there a couple of weeks ago and had fried tilapia. It was very good.
14 days in Albany GA--please help
Any cured country ham that you find will likely be on a breakfast menu. I seldom see country ham on lunch and dinner menus in Georgia. Yoder’s mentioned above does have ham, but the Mennonites have their own special way of preparing ham that I would not call Southern style.
Cutt’s in DeSoto is another place that I would recommend for Southern country cooking. It is north of Albany and is only open for breakfast and lunch, so you probably would have to try it on the weekend. When I ate there last winter, there was a collard patch in back of Cutt’s. So I knew the greens were fresh. :-)
14 days in Albany GA--please help
I checked my notes and found a couple of more places in Albany. Meatslangers is supposed to be very good. Also Jimmie's hot dogs is a local favorite.

I have been told that Parkers Barbecue in Sylvester (just east of Albany on Hwy 82) is really good.
But otherwise I am not familiar with Albany. I would recommend that you take a drive one evening and eat supper at the Daphne Lodge close to Lake Blackshear near Cordele
