Restaurant bans children under age 6 - What do you think?

Wonderful!
I have had too many dinners/lunches ruined by unruly children and screaming babies.
NO it is not "cute" and their badly behaved child is NOT "cute" while they are ruining others enjoyment of their meal. If I wanted to hear ear piercing screeching, I could hang around subway stations for FREE!

What Is America's Worst Restaurant Chain?

CiCi's. Been there. Still asking myself "Is this a real restaurant?" I had better swill at a garage service counter.

What Is America's Worst Restaurant Chain?

TGIF food was good back east. I loved their caesar salad with grilled chicken. In the Phoenix area, I would not feed it to the hogs.

Cork(Chandler) - Likely lone in my dislike

I know that blower. I left the restaurant when they sat me under it. I never sit in a draft. My food gets cold. My neck hurts. Lesson learned.

Where to find a great DC/Nova sandwich?

University of Maryland, College Park, MD has a Student Union Building where we once went to the coffee shop (whatever) in the basement for phenomenal sandwiches.
They build your sandwich, to your specific order, using a wide variety of ingredients. I was not a student. I simply went there whenever I was nearby because the sandwiches were so good. Inexpensive as well.

Am I the only one who finds Al Clad difficult to clean?

My sympathy goes out to you.
I am 71. I switched to Circulon II a few years ago because of all the cleaning issues with other cookware. Regarding cookware, it was the best decision I have ever made.

Best thin crust pizza in the DC area

There are cheese steaks and there are Philly cheese steaks. I grew up in the Philly area eating Philly cheese steaks and hoagies several times each week. Just stop calling everything a Philly cheese steak and identify the item correctly. There is no good or bad...just DIFFERENT!

can i "fix" my dryish bread pudding? I made it but it turned out on the bready/not moist enough side. Wondering if...

You can fix your dry bread pudding many different ways.

Vanilla Sauce, Custard Sauce, packaged pudding, etc...

Simply cut it like a slice of cake and add any sauce you choose.

I really like Pancho's Mexican Buffet for lunch. Other than Carolina's (a dive in a bad neighborhood), Pancho's is one of the few Mexican restaurants where I go back often. Pancho's is located on the north side of Southern Avenue just west of Alma School. (it is next to the GoodWill with the Blue Awning. And it is inexpensive.

Before you leave ask the waiter for sopapios and coffee for dessert. They are piping hot and fresh.

So if I wanted to buy marrow and suet, where exactly would I go, and would it be on the west side?

Most large grocery stores have suet and marrow bones in the meat counter. The supply is usually limited so act accordingly. In the winter, I buy suet for the birds. I often buy sliced bones with the marrow for soup and marrow butter. Ask the meat counter man/woman.

Montrealer needs a dinner in DC and lunch venue near National Agricultural Lib.

While Ledo's has good pizza, everything else sucks. I first heard the phrase "armpit of the DC area" used in 1983. Somethings never change.

Montrealer needs a dinner in DC and lunch venue near National Agricultural Lib.

Yup! There is a barbecue joint on Rhode Island Ave that has been there for generations. It is a hole-in-the-wall type joint. No seating. People call ahead to find out what time the next batch will be done. Then they line up outside the place for their take-out orders. I use to park on a side street and walk there to pick up a BBQ pork sandwich which I ate while sitting in my car. Their ribs are the best I have ever had.

The best I can remember is...the place is located on the east side of Rhode Island Avenue, south of South Dakota.

Best Baltimore Scrapple

Try Lexington Market in downtown Baltimore. There is a metro stop very near the marketplace. Many of the old time favorite foods are still sold in the various stalls. BTW Rapa scrapple is one of the better scrapples.

HELP!?! New to Silver Spring/Aspen Hill/Rockville/Wheaton with nothing to eat!

Years ago, the Olney Ale House made the most fantastic soups. I was transferred out of the area and I still miss their soups.

Question about Golden Corral

Much depends on where you go and why you go there.
I am retired. The Golden Corral Buffet on N. Power Rd. in Mesa, AZ has a lunch special for seniors that cost a total of $7.23. The food at this specific GC is actually pretty good most of the time. The restaurant personnel are terrific. The food is generally well prepared and of good quality. The selection is great and , while some dishes are standard every day fare, other dishes change daily. We meet there on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. This is our "social hour". However, while my son-in-law HATES the GC in Baltimore, he loves my GC in Mesa. I lucked out on this one.

Bonefish Grill

I ate at the Bonefish in Mesa, AZ 3 times. The first time, I was innocent and the food was BAD! The next two times I WAS STUPID and it was still bad. I didn't want to offend anyone by refusing to go there. However, refuse to ever go there again. I will sit in the car with the windows closed in 110 degree heat before I ever return there. Death is preferrable to eating at the Bonefish.

Moving to North Eastern Silver Spring - Need help finding good food

Ledo's is TERRIBLE! They cook with one hand in the sugar bowl and the other holding the salt shaker. I lived in MD/DC for 25 years. Ledo's has always been bad.

Chicago, Philly, and Baltimore all have better food than Ledo's.

calphalon type pots/pans

I just replaced my old favorites with Circulon 2.
I initially bought the 3 1/2 quart pot with 2 handles and a metal lid. I loved it so much I bought 2 more of the same. Then I splurged on the set of 3 skillets. Then I bought the 5 quart soup pot with a metal lid. Believe me when I say that I have done everything in my power to destroy these pots and they still survive. They are extremely easy to clean and NOTHING sticks to them.

Can any cake recipe be used to make cupcakes?

Baking is a science project. The batter is a formula (aka recipe). However, once the batter is created you can bake the batter in as large or small container as you wish.

One only has to folllow the recipe.

The container used to bake the batter has nothing to do with how much baking powder one uses. That rule only applies when one is doubling or halving a recipe.

Can any cake recipe be used to make cupcakes?

Just remember to fill your cupcake tins only 2/3rds full. Something we were taught in 7th grade home economics in 1950.

A great idea - using cookies instead of a bottom crust when making mini-cheesecakes.

Potato salad from the Amish market

Regular mayo...ALWAYS AND FOREVER!
But you can live dangerously and try other mayos/salad dressings. It's not a capital investment. It's only one small batch of potato salad and can be tossed out if you don't like it.

Potato salad from the Amish market

I know the Burtonsville Amish Market as well as being from the Lancaster Amish markets in Pennsylvania.

Sorry I cannot give you absolute measurements. I am over 70 and I don't measure many things.

Try this

Make your mayonaise sauce...
Mayo, minced onion, minced celery.
(optional- minced parsley is optional)
(optional- 1 or 2 diced hardboiled eggs)
Add a couple of tsp of white vinegar. Salt and pepper to taste.
Some cooks add a bit of sugar...yuk. I hate sweet potato salad;

Boil the potatoes in lightly salted water. Drain when done. Put the warm potatoes in a large bowl. Pour the sauce over the warm potatoes and gently mix. Refrigerate. The flavor develops over time in the refrigerator. The warm potatoes absorbs the sauce, so make plenty of sauce.

Can any cake recipe be used to make cupcakes?

Regarding cupcakes...Absolutely YES. Cake batter produces cake whether it is baked in a 9inch cake pan or cupcake tins.

Regarding a bundt cake...it is a cake baked in a bundt pan.

Regarding cheesecake...same as cupcakes.
