Drinks near Grand Central in an hour
I like Lea - it's a little drinks spot in the tunnel under the Metlife building on the east side.

Seeking recommendation for quiet restaurant with well-spaced tables
Sorella on the lower east side -- tables are spaced extremely far apart and the noise level is quiet (particularly in the back room). Decent food too...
Babbo Pasta Tasting Menu
I went for my birthday dinner last year and ordered the pasta / wine pairing. It was absolutely amazing - just make sure to leave room for each dish. There were a lot of pastas that I typically wouldn't have ordered but absolutely loved. And the wine matched the food perfectly.
I definitely recommend it -- enjoy your visit!
Restaurant with great whisky/bourbon list?
allen and delancey -- they have a great food and cocktail menu -- plenty of which include bourbon.
In Soho for one night..best dining options?
for Italian, i'd say Dell'anima or L'artusi - both are a quick cab ride and are fabulous. For Japanese in soho - there's blue ribbon sushi, bond street and omen.

cheap eats near the Waldorf
Fresco on the go is really good (on 52nd and park). Also Dishes (54th and park) is a great lunch spot with a great hot/cold salad bar. I also like 'wichcraft (sandwiches) and yushi (sushi) which are next door to each other on 47th

for tapas, i love alta in the west village... good for groups and has a great low-key atmosphere. Pipa tapas y mas also has good food and is big enough that it can seat a lot of people. also recently went to inoteca in LES with a big group - they let us order one dish of everything on the menu and it turned into a great night
Soho recommendations
I agree with snack on thomson and I'd defintiely add 100 acres on macdougal to the list - it has a great burger and wonderful other entres. If you're in the mood for tapas - try out Boqueria and Bar Carrera
