Healthy eats near University of South Florida?

I'm spending a week visiting my Dad at the Moffitt Cancer Center near the University of South Florida, and I'm looking for some healthy but yummy dinner options. Visiting hours end at 6pm, so I'll have most evenings free. I don't mind dining out by myself, but would love some take-out options as well. Trying to stay on the healthy side since I'll be spending my days on my tush in a hospital room.

Thanks in advance!

40th Birthday Bash in Vegas!

Somehow we managed to get 12 people together last minute for a trip to Vegas to celebrate my big 4-0 next weekend. Yay!

I'm looking for a nicer, somewhat reasonably priced place on the strip next Friday night that I have a remote chance of still getting a reservation for 12 (I know, keep dreaming, right?). Somewhere in the $50 to $100 per person range with drinks would be ideal.

Saturday night we're looking to keep it more casual. I was thinking Public House or Burger Bar? Any others?

Also, we'd like to go dancing one night. Any recommendations on clubs where I won't feel like the oldest person in the place? :)

Thanks so much!!

Lunch in Indio?

We're driving from Phoenix to Disney with the kids next Sunday, and should be hitting Indio around lunchtime. Anything decent within a reasonable drive from I-10 to stop for lunch? A sit down place is preferable, but counter service is OK if the food is good enough. Doesn't have to be super kid friendly either - my folks own a fine dining restaurant so good dining behavior has been beaten into them since birth. :)

Home Corned Beef - Wet Brine or Dry Cure?

I have been curing my own corned beef for years now with a dry rub, but I just watched a Good Eats episode where he cured the meat using a wet brine. Has anyone tried both? Is there any significant difference in flavor and texture? Is one better than the other?

What to do with 2 HUGE bunches of rapini greens?

I order from a local farmer, and when he had "Rapini Greens" on the order form for this week, I mistakenly thought it was broccoli rabe and ordered two bunches. Turns out it is truly just the greens, and now I have two enormous bunches.

I don't typically cook with a ton of greens at home (it's not high on my kid's lists), so I'm at a bit of a lose of what do do with them.

Any favorite suggestions?

Best Salsa Recipe?

I've tried all kinds - fire roasted tomato, fresh chunky tomato, tomatillo, chipotle, etc. Maybe I don't get my ratios right, but I've yet to make one and say YES, this is IT.

Best Salsa Recipe?

I'm always disappointed in any salsa that I make. What's your best salsa recipe? Not the kind you put on chicken or fish - the kind you sit and snarf with chips and can't stop eating it. The kind you bring to a BBQ and everyone asks for the recipe. Red or green, doesn't matter, but no fruit please!

Thanks!

HELP - Traveling to Philly this weekend and dropped the ball on dining!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! I took the 8pm reservation at Tinto, and I think I'll take your suggestions along with me so we can play Thursday by ear a bit. I'd like to see if the hotel provides shuttle service anywhere - I had no idea cabs would be so expensive! My Mom's not big on late-night public transportation.

On a side note, can anyone enlighten me on why there are so many BYOB places in Philly?

HELP - Traveling to Philly this weekend and dropped the ball on dining!

I'm in dire need of some quick recommendations for this weekend, as I have little to no time to research. We're staying at the airport marriott for a conference, and have both Thursday and Friday nights free for dinner.

We fly in Thursday night, so I'm looking for something somewhat casual and probably on the lighter side, but with a nice glass of wine. Good salads would be perfect. We will not have a rental car, so the place needs to be within reasonable cab distance from the airport. I was thinking maybe Tria Cafe? Any other recs?

Friday night the conference has set up a shuttle tour that will stop at either Old City for First Friday or Center City/Rittenhouse. We'll be business casual at best, since we will have to get on and off a shuttle bus and do some walking. I tried to get reservations at Amada, but no go at this late notice. Cuisine and price not necessarily an issue, just a place with good chow that we can still get a reservation for a Friday night, and can walk to in either of those areas. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Nice Vegas Dinner on strip with both pasta and steak options?

Hello hounds!

Heading to Vegas with a couple of picky eaters. One is a pasta lover, one is a steakhouse/meat lover. Then there's my husband and I, that just want to make sure the place is good eats. I like the look of the Nove Italiano menu, but the reviews have been not so good. Anything similar on the strip that anyone can recommend?

Yes, unfortunately we have to stay on the strip - they all want the "vegas" experience. (Otherwise I would drag them all to Rosemary's regardless of pickiness). Entrees in the $30 to $40 range would be preferable.

Thanks in advance!

Baby friendly dinner near Embassy Suites downtown?

I'll be in Chicago this weekend with my Mom and 7 month old, so I'm looking for a couple of recommendations for dinner places with good chow that tolerate a babbling baby well. She's only 7 months, so a kid's menu is not necessary, but a highchair is. I'd really like to stay away from the chains, and wouldn't mind something a bit nicer than pizza or burgers. We're staying at the Embassy Suites downtown lakefront - walking distance would be preferable. Any suggestions?

Lunch near Embassy Suites Downtown Lakefront?

My Mom and I are headed to Chicago this weekend and actually staying downtown for a change instead of out on the burbs with family. We're planning on shopping and lunching on Friday and Saturday. My Mom came up with the following list of places for lunch near the hotel, and I'd love to get opinions/suggestions to narrow down the list:

Bistro 110
Catch 35
Frontera Grill
Topolobampo
Riva
Atwood Grill
Tavern on Rush
MK Downtown

I LOVE Mexican, so maybe one of Bayless' places one day? Which one? And if we're going to do Mexican one day, it would be nice to stay on the lighter side the other. Any other picks from the list, or other suggestions we haven't thought of?

Thanks so much!

Halfway reasonable after show dinner in Vegas?

We're meeting friends in Vegas in Sept for a weekend. We're trying Rosemary's on Sat night (I've never been), and seeing the 7:30 showing of "O" on Friday with hopes of a late dinner. Since we're headed off the strip Sat, we'd like to stay on the strip for dinner Fri and not shell out too much dough since we're spending a small fortune to see "O." We're not looking for cheap eats per se - just not over $100 bucks per person like many of the nicer strip restaurants can be. Something more along the lines of $50 per person (with drinks) would work. We're up for any cuisine except unfortunately Thai (so LoS is out). Oh, and they probably need to serve past 9:30pm for us to get there in time.

I know there's a ton of places that fall into this category - I'm just looking to hear if anyone has favorites?

Sedona dining with a 3 year old?

We're headed to Sedona for a 3 day weekend. I'm looking for recommendations for places to eat (lunch and dinner) that won't completely offend my husband and I, and will tolerate a pretty well behaved 3 year old well. After searching the board, my current list includes Pizza Picazzo, The Cowboy Club, and Javelina Cantina.

Comments or additions?

Thanks!

PHX - Fried mushrooms and zucchini?

Fried muchrooms and zucchini - my latest pregnancy craving. Like the stuff you used to get in that hole in the wall pizza place everyone hung out at after high school, served with plenty of ranch dressing. I've tried a couple bar and grill type places, but the nacho and wing trend seems to have taken over most of those menus (and that was last month's craving).

Anybody know a good place? I'd prefer East Valley, but willing to drive if I have to.

Thanks!

Thanksgiving in Phoenix

If you're in the mood for seafood, The Salt Cellar is open every year for Thanksgiving and offers their full regular menu, which is nice since many places that stay open on holidays offer a smaller specialty menu with only 5 or 6 choices.

authentic cheese curds in phoenix area

I've had the cheese curds at Von Hanson's, and I personally wasn't impressed. They didn't have that "squeak" you get when you bit into a fresh cheese curd. Not worth the $5+ I think I paid for each little package.

PHX - Pho in East Valley?

Honestly, it was awhile ago, and I can't even remember. I think it was somewhere in Chandler. Obviously, the pho was worth forgetting.

PHX - Pho in East Valley?

Hounds,

Two years in the East Valley, and I have yet to find a place for good pho - not that I've looked much in the hot summer months! I'm now expecting our second munchkin and craving comfort food, regardless of the outside temps. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

PHX/Scottsdale: Nice dinner around Biltmore

Thanks everyone - T Cook's it is! We haven't been in years, and I completely forgot it was in proximity to the Biltmore. What a wonderful suggestion!

Recommendations for Central E Side PHOENIX ... by Mesa College?

Mint Thai on Gilbert Rd in between Baseline and Guadalupe. I would put this place up against some of the best Thai places I have been to, and being a former DC hound, that says a ton. They are not afraid to spice things up, either. Everything is ordered on a spice scale of one to four. We like spicy food, and a three is almost too much for our family. LOVE the laab.

PHX/Scottsdale: Nice dinner around Biltmore

Hounds,

Hubbie and I are staying at the Biltmore for an anniversary weekend, and I'm looking for a nice romantic place to have dinner Friday night. We really don't mind driving, but the Biltmore is in such a great area that we've really never spent much time around, so I was hoping to stay kind of close. I tend to be more interested in food than atmosphere, so I was pulling for Richardson's, but hubbie says too loud and too smoky.

Any other suggestions?
