Sunday Dinner in ATL
Virginia Highlands, Decatur, Midtown, Buckhead would be preferred
I actually went to Empire State South when I was in town in March -- It was great but I'm looking to try something new
What do ya'll think about Eugene or Cakes and Ales?
Sunday Dinner in ATL
We had planned on going to Bacchnalia but it is closed on Sunday
Can you give me some recs for fine dining that will be open?
Thanks
Brunch for 25 people
Commanders messed up our reservation so we are kind of in a bind to find a place to get brunch for 25 three weeks from today.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Friday lunch in the Virginia Highlands
I'll be in town next Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately I'll be busy during dinner both nights, I'm eating at Leon's in Decatur for lunch on Thursday but have Friday lunch open.
I'm pretty wide open as far as type of cuisine but I'd like to go somewhere that I can sit down, order a drink and enjoy a long lunch.
I'm staying in the Virginia Highlands but I can cab if it's worth it.
Thanks for any input.
Food Centric Bar in Nasvhille
Thanks, I may check out the Holland House
I've stayed at the Hutton a few times so I'm familiar with the 1808 -- it's good but I want to try something new
Food Centric Bar in Nasvhille
Something more upscale is what I would prefer. As far as drinks go it really doesn't matter as long as I can have a scotch -- I'm more concerned with the food
College football is over so TV's aren't really a requirement although one would be nice
Food Centric Bar in Nasvhille
I'm going to be arriving in Nashville Saturday evening and was looking for a bar with great food -- something casual where I can grab a few drinks as well.
I'll be staying at the Hotel Indigo on West End and will be willing to take a cab as long as it's not out to the burbs.
Also, what time do bars open downtown on Sunday? I wanted to grab a drink before I head over to my in-laws tailgate. Whodat
Lunch within walking distance to Beale St.
I hate to hear that about Slims. I went for dinner and had a good meal and always enjoyed their lunch prior to the new chef/owner taking over.
Lunch within walking distance to Beale St.
Gus's is great and not too far from Beale. There are 4-5 Gus's restaurants around Memphis and they are all essentially the same -- hopefully your wife likes fried chicken because it is some of the best.
if you want something a little more upscale you could check out:
McEwens on Monroe: http://www.mcewensonmonroe.com/
Felicia Suzzane's: http://www.feliciasuzanne.com/
Automatic Slims: http://www.automaticslimsmemphis.com/
I haven't been to lunch at Slims since their new chef took over but I assume, like the dinner, it is good.
They are all a few blocks from Beale. Majestic is good but I've found the service is kind of slow and I think the three places above are about the same price and have better food.
Bardog and Local are both good as well -- they are foodcentric bars
http://www.localgastropub.com/
http://www.bardogtavern.com/
Again, these places are a couple blocks off of Beale -- IMO the food on Beale is pretty lackluster although I haven't been to Johnny G's which is mentioned above

Sports Bar on 30A and kid friendly good food
I'll be staying in Seacrest Beach (between Rosemary and Allys) and need somewhere with the NFL package to watch the Saints on Sunday.
I would prefer a place with above average bar food but that's not a necessity as proximity is probably a bigger factor.
Oustide of George's what are some kid friendly restaurants that are good? Is Cafe 30A kid friendly -- I've been a few times but I don't really remember.
Thanks for any input.
Grayton Beach reccomendations
Cafe Tango
Barago
Caliza (sp?)
Cafe 30A
These are all good fine dining spots (fine dining as far as food, you can still wear shorts). I've never been to V and may check it out since I'll be at Seacrest Beach all week
I'm not a fan of Fish Out Water -- I've eaten there 3-4 times and everytime it has just been okay.

Pasta Italia in Collierville
I heard they were closing the restaurants and the chef/owner was moving to Chattanooga to open a restuarant. I heard that someone liked their food so much they offered to set them up there.
I never went since it is a 45 minute drive from my house but I was told it was excellent.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

What kind od place is restuarant Iris
It's very different from anything in NYC.
Chef English trained under Besh and ran a Besh restaurant at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica. August is probably the closest comparison although they are very different.
I would put Iris on par with any of the best restaurants in the south. Get ready for a decadant meal.
Flight or Iris
Really? I don't see any similarities except for the name. The schtick at Flight (memphis) is that you can order "flights" of food i.e. tenderloin flight with smaller portions of Pork, Beef, Lamb or wine flights allowing you to taste 3 different kinds of wine, etc...
Unless Flyte in Nashville completely changed I think you are wrong.
Mobile, AL info
Excellent. My love for a good pirate bar runs deep.
I will probably end up there each night
Mobile, AL info
I've heard Saspot's is going to be the headiest French Canadian fare in town.
Any good bar recomendations (preferably one that is kind of shady) near the hotel?
Mobile, AL info
I'm going to be in Mobile in Mid-August for a wedding and I'll be staying downtown at the Battlehouse.
I can have 2 lunches and one dinner while I"m there and need some guidance. On all of these the closer the better but we will have a car and will drive a little bit if needed
Dinner - preferably fine dining. Just need to know what the best restaurant in town is.
Lunches - one seafood and the other can be casual but needs to be downtown since I'll be on a short timeline.
Thanks for any input.
Flight or Iris
If you are staying downtown Erlings is a haul but it is excellent and for $38 it's a deal. I didn't even know about that but would love to check it out...
I love Bari but check out the menu first as it's not for everyone. They have a great cheese selection, pasta dishes, and it's very fish-centric for the mains (they aren't really main courses though as you are supposed to order 4-5 courses).
As mentioned earlier McEwens is great -- especially if you are downtown.
I'm pretty sure Sweetgrass and 1912 are both open on Sunday's as well.
Everywhere in Memphis is fairly casual but I wouldn't wear shorts and flip flops to EJ's...
Has anyone toured the Abita Brewery?
Thanks for all the info.
I called ahead and they said they would make sure to have enough staff there for our group. We are going on a Friday afternoon so hopefully it won't be too crowded.
We decided to skip La Provence since we can get an equally good meal in New Orleans and we won't have to pay for a limo to wait on us. We are going to Patois instead.

Dress Code for Patios?
Would I be okay in polo shirt, shorts and loafers or would slacks be more appropriate?
Knoxville and TN Blue Laws
You can buy booze in restaurants in the morning.
the laws only pertain to stores -- noon for beer and no liquor on Sundays
Dress Code for Patios?
Going with a group of 12 and was curious.
Also, any recs for a bar within walking distance?
Has anyone toured the Abita Brewery?
Really? I've been to all the other Besh Restaurants multiple times and have enjoyed them all.
We actually may skip La Provence -- I'm not sure the atmosphere is conducive to a bachelor party crowd.
What's the dress code and general feel of the restaurant?

Has anyone toured the Abita Brewery?
If so is it worth an afternoon trip?
We are going to be in town for a bachelor party and since most of us get down to New Orleans a few times a year we thought it may be fun to check something else out. We plan on renting a limo to get there and spend the afternoon at the Abita brewery then heading over to La Provence for dinner.
I haven't been to La Provence either but I assume it's great.

BBQ not to miss on Memphis trip 2
The downtown location of A+R is pretty terrible
The Rendevous is fun if you've never been: order a sausage and cheese plate, a full order of ribs and a pitcher of michelob. Their pulled pork is marginal.
But if you have options go to Central, BBQ Shop or G'town Commissary (although this option is far away)
university of tenn without a car
The strip is constantly changing and it's been a long time since I went to school there but I try to go back once a year for a football game so I kind of know what's still there. That being said the restaurant scene is pretty weak especially since OCI closed (or moved either way I'll never go back)
BBQ in Knoxville is terrible -- don't even try it, especially on the strip.
Check out Gus's Good Times Deli near the corner of 17th and Cumberland. The food Knoxville is known for is the steamed sandwich and this is the place to get it.
For dinner I would probably check out Sunspot. http://www.sunspotrestaurant.com/
This is probably the best option IMO -- nothing special but it's pretty good.
Copper Cellar/Cumberland Grill are also manageable. http://www.coppercellar.com/Restaurant-CopperCellar.html
If you can get away from the strip over to Market Square you'll be better off -- I'd hit up Bistro by The Tracks.
Hopefully someone else will be able to give you a little more insight; unfortunately I just don't think there are great options for you although I do love Gus' after a long night of boozing.
Do you know which dorm you'll be in? If you are in the Carrick's, Reese or Humes your best option will be Chick Fil-A and if you are in any other dorm except Gibbs (the atheletic dorm) you will be subjected to terrible food.

Flight or Iris
Wise choice. McEwen's, IMO, is always a good choice. Last time I went I had the coriander encrusted duck breast and it was great -- probably the best thing I've ever had there.
Flight or Iris
We are talking about Memphis not Nashville
If it were Nashville I'd be hyping City House and Miel -- since Zola shut down I think those are the only two "fine" dining places I really like there.
Flight or Iris
I've had a great meal at flight and another that was okay (not bad just not great).
I just think that Iris is next level good -- I need to go back soon. For a place that is walking distance from my house I don't go enough
Flight or Iris
Also, the tasting menu is a great deal -- 5 courses which is $75 paired with wine and $55 w/o wine
I only think they do this during the week though.
Where are you staying? Iris is in Midtown which is about a $10 cab from downtown.
