Unfortunately, it wasn't a successful trip. In the past I had a good pint at Tir Na Nog - 5 Penn Plaza and also have enjoyed pints at Molly's Pub & Shebeen - 287 Third Ave. I can't recall if Molly's had guinness or not, maybe O'Hara's & Murphy's. Good Luck. |

Yes. Nonic shape is a variation of the Tulip pint, should have been more specific. Guinness in the states is mainly poured in tulip glasses. In Ireland it's both and I prefer Nonic. It really is a hit or miss in the states. I am aware of the complications in terms of, does the keg travel well, is the temperture where it's stored too cold, how it's poured & how long it sits before it's topped off and served. Canada Girls hubby has a keen eye. At any rate, thanks for the replies, visiting shortly and will see what happens. Cheers! |

Thanks IR. I am familiar with both threads. |

Can anyone rec. places in Manhattan where they had an exceptionally good pint of guinness recently? Not as important but any recent pours using the imperial pint glass vs. the tulip? Will be visiting the city soon. Location doesn't matter. Thanks. |

In search of Elysian Beer (Boston, MA) Would really like to try Elysian's seasonal beers such as Nightowl Pumpkin Ale, Dark o’ the Moon Pumpkin Stout, Jack o’ Bite Scottish Pumpkin Ale and Hansel & Gretel Ginger Pumpkin Pilsner. Does anybody know where to get any of these beers in the greater boston area? Thanks. |

I'm visiting with foodies and The Spotted Pig is a place we'll be visiting as reviews have been rewarding. We're trying to accommodate each others concerns: food, wine, cocktails, art, etc. We all can appreciate the finest of burgers, fish & chips, etc., but it is I who is in search of a memorable pint of Guinness even if it's just for the Guinness at this point. |

Gastropub has various explanations as I've searched this topic online. My main concern is finding the "perfect pint" to enjoy with good food. I will be visiting the city for four days so there really are no places to rule out. I plan on heading to the Spotted Pig but was also trying to find other recommendations where the Guinness is noted as being the best one could expect here vs. in Ireland. Thanks for your comments. |

I'm in search of pub/bar recommendations (Irish influence) who have better than usual pubfare food and most importantly, great pints of Guinness. If the pint rules than please lead the way. Has anyone had a memorable pint recently, and if so, where? Thanks. |

Best Guinness - Taste matters (NYC) I've had O'Hara Celtic Stout and do like it. Thanks for your recommendations TongoRad, I will check out the Ginger Man. Upon my next visit I'd like the option of having let's say, "the perfect pint." Of course there's no comparison of Guinness between the US and Ireland (as from experience) but if I can find a place the pours it properly (timing), cleans their lines, stores it at the right temperature & pours plenty of it I'd be happy. Are there any others who might have had a really good pint? |

Best Guinness - Taste matters (NYC) I'll be visiting the city in a couple of weeks. Looking for the best pub/bar recommendations who pour a really good pint of Guinness. Staying midtown west (58th and 9th). Has anyone had a memorable pint recently, and if so, where? Thanks. |

Visiting NYC in March, Birthday Dinner: Aroma or Via Emilia? Any recent dining experiences for the two restaurants posted above? I'm treating 3 friends to a birthday dinner (Sunday Evening) and would like to keep the price range between $200 - $250.00 including a bottle of wine. Any other recommendations within the same restaurant style (cuisine) & price range would be considered as well. Thanks a bunch! |

Any stores carrying St Bernarndus Christmas Ale? Marty's Liquor in Newton had it this past weekend. You may consider checking with Blanchard's or Macy's in West Roxbury if the location is closer. |

Beer Guide Books - Christmas Present I have Michael Jackson's "Great Beer Guide." It's very informative (color pics/descriptions) but would prefer to purchase a beer guide book similiar to this style but current. Any recommendations?? Thanks. |

My brother is a Pumpkin Ale fan. After the good reviews posted on CHOW, I'd like to pick him up some. Where can I buy some close to Downtown Boston or JP? Thanks. |

Thanks all. |

Has anyone come across or had some really good peanut brittle lately? |

I made a decision. Avoid Mistral all together & follow first instinct. Blue Room in Kendall Sq. This place barely gets mentioned on Chowhound & the food from apps. to entrees have never failed to deliver. Simply delicious. |

lunch recs. (theater dist.) & dinner recs. (west vill.) Coming to Manhattan (2 people) next week for a couple of days & need recs. for lunch/dinner for the first day. We'll be staying in Theater Dist. arriving late afternoon. Because pressed for time would like to stay close to W. 49th/8th ave. for a late lunch (apps./salads/burgers/bar). As for dinner - recs. would be preferred in the West Village. Looking for Italian. Prefer full bar but not important. Would sacrifice cocktails for great pasta & nice ambience. Options for lunch: Eatery / Joe Allen (as they are close to hotel). Options for dinner: Lupa / Gradisca (I'm leaning toward Gradisca). Anything else you could recommend would be greatly appreciated. Thanks egon. |
