Restaurant Suggestions for a Bachelorette Party in the Downtown Toronto Area?

Looking to pick a restaurant for a friends bachelorette. Will be 8 or 9 women all in their early 30's who love to cook and appreciate great food. Hoping to find a place that has a lively scene, in addition to great culinary delights. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Best place for after dinner drinks for a hip couple in their 30's in Old Montreal?

Thanks for all the comments c'hounds. Much appreicated. We're actually staying at the Hilton Garden Inn on Sherbrooke, so Pullman is right around the corner. A little back and forth for dinner at DNA first, but will heed your advice. Seems like Buvette isn't too far from us either so maybe we'll check out both!

Best place for after dinner drinks for a hip couple in their 30's in Old Montreal?

Me and my SO are in Montreal from out of town tonight, having dinner at DNA and looking for someplace cool to hit up for drinks after. Possibly even somewhere with live music?

No place pretentious please, we're pretty laid back! We both enjoy beer, wine and creative cocktails.

Any suggestions are much appreciated. :-)

Need to find a GREAT Caterer for 45 People in Toronto for New Year's Eve- Any Suggestions?

Hello Hounders!

I'm hoping you can help me. I need to find a GREAT caterer for 45 people for New Year's Eve. Its my 30th Birthday, we're having a big party and usually I'm the one cooking- but my family and friends refuse to let me this year.

The party will take place in a condo party room around 7pm December 31st in Downtown Toronto.

I'm open to any suggestions at this point as I've never hired a caterer before- I'm usually catering someone else's party! Honestly, any kind of cuisine at this point is game- a themed party would be awesome.

Thanks A Bundle!

Good Eats at Blue Mountain? (Collingwood)

Can anyone reccomend good restaurants/bars at Blue Mountain? I will be there for 3 days this coming weekend and have no idea where to go for lunch and dinner.

Thanks!

SFF (Single Female Foodie) Seeks Some Ideas for Solo Toronto Weekend

Don't miss Origin. Get a seat at the open kitchen and you can chat with the staff while they cook. I was there last night and posted my review of Origin on Chow if you want more details on the food and ambience.

anniversary dinner that must include oysters (everything else negotiable)

Rodney's By Bay has great oysters and its a small quaint setting for a nice meal. If you want something really great- I'd say go to Origin. I was there for dinner last night and it was outstanding. Susur Lee and his sons sat beside us- its really quite the happening new place. They have an oyster tapa on the menu.

A Canadian food writers first time to Austin- Best places to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

Thank you for your responses- much appreciated. A recent development has now extended my trip to include several days in Houston. I'll be sure to review the boards to get a better idea of where the best food in Texas is hiding. Now if only someone can point me to the weather complaint department- I'll be all set. What is with the cold weather there? I hope it warms up!

A Canadian food writers first time to Austin- Best places to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

I will be in Austin February 22nd-27th, travelling solo on business. Can anyone tell me the must eat places? Cheap, expensive, creative, hole in the wall, you name it. The only must is DELICIOUS food. I am open to try anything.

Thanks!

Rodney's By Bay -- Anyone been?

Two Words- Rasberry Point

Best oysters! Kumamoto's were also fresh and delicious. Hit Rodneys By Bay for lunch today and it was great. Good service, great food and reasonable prices for what you get.

It is rather loud however, so not the place if you're trying to have a business meeting over lunch. But if you're looking for a fun atmosphere with great seafood- RBB is it.

Swish by Han?

Just had lunch there today. Our waitress said they still don't have their liquor license, but they are going to start opening for dinner anyways. My boyfriend and I ordered the Ssam Bap (Beef), Swish Beef and the side order of the Kimchee trio. My boyfriend taught and lived in Korea for a year and said it was pretty close to authentic. The problem is as tjr stated- you can get the same dishes at other Korean restaurants for much, much less with probably bigger portions. Our bill came to $37 and change.

If you live or work in the neighbourhood its worth the trip. Everything we had was good- nothing outstanding but on the same level as any other Korean resto I've eaten at in Toronto. The price you pay seems to be more for the up scale atmosphere and neighbourhood. I live and work close by so I would definitely go back whenever I'm craving kimchee. If you aren't a fan of kimchee this may not be the place for you as a lot of their menu seems to be centered around it.

All in all I'm excited to have a Korean resto in my hood, even if I do end up paying a bit more for it.

PS- The prices increase slightly for dinner- so its a good idea to try lunch there first.

Where to buy butter tarts in Toronto?

Thanks a million cheesymama. Just called flaky tart and reserved 12 for my dad tomorrow! It will make his fathers day. :-)

Where to buy butter tarts in Toronto?

Can anyone tell me where I can find good butter tarts in Toronto? The old fashioned kind with raisins? My dad loves them- and I'd love to bring some home for Fathers Day. I have zero time to make them otherwise I'd be asking for a good recipe.

I've bought some at the St. Lawrence Market in the past but they were horrid. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you had just two days in Vancouver, where would you eat? Shop?

Thanks also to you miss foodie!

If you had just two days in Vancouver, where would you eat? Shop?

Yes I am new to chowhound. I wish had more time to search on here but unfortunately its a bit of a busy time for me leading up to this trip. I will have access to a car when i'm there and am guessing that's probably a good thing? I am from TO and am used to the luxury of our transit system. :-) Thanks again for all the great info. Oh and I will be there April 1st or 2nd leaving the sunday morning of that week. I'll let you know what I manage to check out!

If you had just two days in Vancouver, where would you eat? Shop?

Ciao grayelf- Grazie mille! (A thousand thank you's!) Thank you so much for the great info! I'm amazed that someone took the time to post the links. So thoughtful. Again thanks so much. I hope to make the most out of my trip, and looks as though now I will with some direction from you. I'm pretty new to chow so I'm still discovering the best ways to get info off this site. A direct reply to my question has been really helpful.

If you had just two days in Vancouver, where would you eat? Shop?

I'm in Vancouver for just two short days. Staying for Friday, Saturday after a business trip. My hotel is in central downtown. I've never been there, however am a single female and will be dining and travelling alone. Any suggestions on great places to eat? Which markets to hit? I love food, and am completely open to all cuisines. I also love to cook and would love to bring back some great local ingredients.

Salt spring island? Other places on Vancouver Island? Any other markets, shops, restaurants that are a must visit and not too complicated to get to?

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Corporate Team Building Cooking Class in Downtown Toronto?

Has anyone been to a corporate team building cooking class in the downtown core? Did you love it? Hate it? Where was it?

I'm looking at picking a venue for a pretty important client and need to make sure their team has a great time. It has to be in the downtown core close to their office. So far I've found:

A class at Liason College
A class at George Brown College
A class at Great Cooks on Eight (the bay eaton centre)
A class at Calphalon Culinary Centre

Its a group of 10 people with discerning palates. Any help would be appreciated!
