What happened to Mattarello Bakery in SOBE?

Thanks. I too also love Fratelli Milano. I live downtown and go there often. But I will miss those incredible chocolate filled sugar yeast doughnuts amongst other things from Mattarello. The place has a great little hidden gem feeling to it on the beach.

Miami and SoBe - questions about a few restaurants

La Camaronera is the best Cuban shrimp sandwich ever. It is definitely worth the hype and effort for a visit. 8 oz. Burger Bar is overpriced and average any day of the week- but I do love Shake Shack

Miami Spice @ City Hall

Delicious food for lunch at City Hall the Restaurant. I had a hearty bowl of seafood and sausage gumbo, a gigantic (enough for two) cornmeal crusted shrimp poor boy sandwich, and a piece of apple cheesecake for dessert. The food was fresh, generous, and attractively presented. Atmosphere was lively (noisy?) placed was packed. The service was attentive and friendly. I would go back for sure with or without Spice. It is a nice addition to Biscayne Blvd.

What happened to Mattarello Bakery in SOBE?

Does anyone know what happened to the wonderful little Italian bakery Mattarello Bakery Cafe on Washington St. in SOBE?

Restaurants with soft shell crabs in Palm Beach or Broward

If you can cook up your own the Fish Peddler fish market in Lauderdale by Sea sells them most days in season and they are fresh not frozen and delicious!!

Looking for fresh catch seafood in and around ft lauderdale florida

Check out Seafood World in Lighthouse point. Great selection of local catches..

Looking for a restaurant with a "Florida" feel. Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood

Check out the Sea Watch in Lauderdale by the Sea. It is as Florida tropical as it gets. The screened in porch sits right on the ocean with gorgeous views and sea breezes. Go for lunch or early dinner to soak in the view. The menu offers a good variety of fish and seafood choices.

BurgerFi Fort Lauderdale

I don't mind spending those prices at all for a delicious product. I would go to Shake Shack, Le Tub, Trulucks, Capital Grille, etc. any day of the week. I just don't like getting ripped off for unimpressive, average food with painstakingly slow service and rude counter people.

BurgerFi Fort Lauderdale

This place is horrible. Food was mediocre and pricey. $45.00 for 3 single hamburgers, 3 fries, 3 ice teas and small cups of custard. The portion size for the small custards was laughingly small for $3 each. I complained to the manager/owner who was rude and condescending. He gave me larger portions of frozen custard after I complained - after he told me this was the last time he gave me larger scoops - don't ever expect it again- he is the decision maker! Ha! He then lectured me that this was not ice cream but frozen custard - like I did't know the difference. I told him I go to Shake Shack all the time and I am very well aware of what frozen custard is. He then went off telling me they are not Shake Shake, don't want to be, on and on. This place is a joke with overhyped food, slow service, and indifferent staff members.

Best place to take Mom for Brunch

The Ritz Carlton in Ft. Lauderdale has a scrumptious Sunday breakfast or Brunch. Sit outside on the outdoor patio with a direct ocean view.

lunch suggestions

There are many good lunch spots with nice outdoor venues. The Sea Watch in Lauderdale by the Sea - right on the ocean with a lot of seafood, soups, salads, sandwiches. Sit in the back in the screened porch. Also try the Pelican Grand Hotel for breakfast, or lunch. It is also right on the ocean on a large patio- rocking chairs, very Bahamian in feel. Houstons on the Intracoastal on Atlantic in Pompano has great consistent fare on a large deck in back. The Anglin Pier restaurant in Lauderdale by the Sea at the Fishing Pier has great breakfast with killer ocean views. These are good starts.

Trata Greek Taverna - opinions?

The Greek Islands Restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale has the absolute best Greek food in South Florida. Try roasted whole fish, juicy lamb chops. Starters include expected saganaki, fresh salads, dips, spanakopita, etc. The restaurant is busy every night so try arriving early. You won't be disappointed and the prices are reasonable.

Outdoor Dining in SoBe

I will recommend La Cote at the Fountainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. I do realize that you said South Beach, however grab a ten minute cab ride to the exact experience you are describing. I just went there for lunch last Sunday and it was terrific. I sat with my boyfriend on the second floor on a very comfortable, sink into all day loveseat with an unobstructed, stones throw view of the whole beach. It is by far the best view oceanside on all of Miami Beach. The food was delicious too! Surprise! We started with the Bruschetta appetizer - 3 large slices of grilled country bread with tomatoes, basil, onion, tasty olive oil - the flavor was spot on. We then had the tenderloin with portabella mushrooms in a rich peppercorn wine sauce served with grilled asparagus. The beef was melt in your mouth tenderful and full of good beef flavor. As a second entree we had the giant grilled prawns served with sauteed fennel and lemon gremolata. Also very good.Drinks are typical South Beach expensive - $16.00/cocktail. I would recommend a nice chilled bottle of French Rose or champagne as you mentioned. Service was casual yet attentive. The only word of warning if you do not enjoy lively dj spun house music - it will not be the place for you. If you do enjoy the great atmosphere and music it will be the right afternoon you described.

Best Power Lunch in Palm Beach

I would recommend Cafe Boulud in the Brazilian Court Hotel by famed chef Daniel Boulud. The food is amazing and the dining room is quiet elegant - perfect for an important client lunch. Also, I like the Seafood Bar in the Breakers Hotel. Once again, great seafood, and a beautiful room with a great view.

3 Nights At The Viceroy on Brickell

For lunch you must head over to Fratelli Milano on SE 1st Street. The are open only during the week. The pastas and all the food in general is delicious. This is one of those rare food bargains in Miami. The place is small and gets quite busy. I only wish this place was open for dinner. I would be there a couple times a week.

2 Dinners in SoBE - Romantic and Business

oops - didn't see that post - but definitely give it a try on your next trip. I feel it is very good food at a better than average price point for Miami Beach in a beautiful setting(maybe one of the prettiest dining rooms on the beach). I also hear their Sunday brunch is wonderful.

2 Dinners in SoBE - Romantic and Business

I am going to recommend Scarpetta in the Fountainebleau for either occasion. It is romantic enough for a romantic dinner (great cozy booths) yet appropriately quiet enough and impressive enough for a business dinner. The room is decorated in the style of a very elegant cruise liner (done in various shades of silver and icy blue). The food is upscale Northern Italian - with a terrific selection of pastas, risottos, polenta, and salads for starters; and very good fish and veal, steak, etc. for the main course. It is not within walking distance, but I think it is worth a ten minute cab ride. Look at the menu on the Fountainebleau website. I think you will like it.

Lunch in South Beach

The outdoor terrace restaurant is good at the Eden Roc for good salads, hamburgers - the fish tacos are wonderful. They also have a nice oceanside view. I think the construction issues are winding down as I haven't experienced this problem in a while. That being said I still want to try La Cote at the Fountainebleau. I will let you know what I think.

Lunch in South Beach

I think you should check out the newly opened La Cote at the Fountainebleau. They have a second floor outdoor restaurant right on the beach. What a gorgeous location with unmatched ocean view. The menu is St. Tropez inspired. I can't wait to go myself. The view is to die for! Plus the Fountainebleau is a beautiful property worth checking out anyway..

Looking for Miami (SoBe) dinner recommendations for wife's 30th b-day

I think Barton G's is all about the ambience, the party festive experience. The food though is decent - yet the fun is all about the presentation. Most people truly enjoy going there and just having a good time. That being said - there are few mindblowing food experiences in Miami for out of towners - if you are from places like downtown Chicago, New York, for example(plus the over the top pricing for restaurants they are way better back home is frustrating). I think if is better to go for more of a pretty setting, a fun time. I completely agree that for a young couple wanting to celebrate a special occasion, Barton G's fits the bill. Just enjoy the tropical atmosphere and be serious foodies once back in NYC.

ANNIVERSARY TRIP TO FLORIDA KEYS

Check out Keys Fisheries in Marathon - End of 35th Street on Gulf. This is a super casual (picnic tables-place your order at the window and pick up when number is called) super fresh great seafood Keys institution. They have every kind of local fish and seafood imaginable prepared any way you like it. They have all the local favorites- conch fritters and chowder - great fish sandwiches (try the hog snapper sandwich). This is the place in Marathon.

8 oz Burger Bar lands on South Beach

I think this restaurant is overpriced for what it is. The burgers are good - not mindblowing- oh my god I can't wait to come back good. I think $10.00 for the burger -$1.00 extra for cheese - $2.00 for extras such as bacon- ok. But wait - it doesn't even come with fries -another $4.00 extra. So we are at $15.00 + for a burger and fries in a non-descript dining room with average service. For my money - you can go anywhere for that price. Go sit outside oceanside with a view at the Eden Roc or Fountainebleau. The burger and fries will taste even better.

Driving through the Keys

Please stop for lunch at Island Grill(Snake Creek Bridge - Islamorada ). It is by far the most delicious lunch restaurant with great food, great atmosphere(on the water- nestled in the Mangroves) you'll find anywhere along the drive - until you reach Key West. Try the fish tacos, tuna nachos.

Authentic Mexican in Miami

I think you need to recommend Rosa Mexicano to the list (even if it a small chain - eight restaurants total?) I agree that Miami is lacking options in Mexican restaurants. I am originally from Chicago where quality Mexican restaurants were abundant and varied - high end (Frontera Grill, Topolobampo, etc.) to no frills basic ( Nuevo Leon - 18th St. - Pilsner neighborhood). A few items at Rosa Mexicano are definitely worth a visit. The guacamole is fresh, made tableside, and is as delicious as they come. The tortilla soup with the chili infused broth is authentic and worth the trip alone, so is the shrimp and steak stew in a chipotle sauce. All the tacos are delicious, especially the cochinita pibil(pork shoulder). The tortillas are homemade and made in front of the customer fresh. This is a pricier restaurant than your corner Mexican tacqueria - but if you stick to some of my recommended items, you will not be disappointed.

South Beach Weekend

I think the newly re-opened Smith & Wollensky's outdoor patio and bar is delicious - the water view with the cruise ships passing by can't be beat! Go for lunch they have a new lunch and bar menu - great mini burgers, crabcake sandwiches, wondeful flatbread pizzas. On Sunday afternoons - try La Piaggia - a local scene - with a beachy St. Tropez feel and well executed French bistro favorites. For dinner check out the newly opened Fountainebleu Hotel - gorgeous. The Italian restaurant Scarpetta serves divine Northern Italian dishes in a setting reminscent of an old luxury cruise liner. Enjoy!
