Thats what I feel too, torchon. No really great Indian places here, but I do like Dosa King better than Gandhi Mahal.

This is what happened - my companion (who is not Indian, FWIW) ordered the CT Masala "Bollywood Jana" (their highest spice level). It came out with some raw masala powder stirred into the bland 'regular' sauce. It tasted pretty bad, because of the bite of the uncooked spices. Why even have different levels of spice on your menu if you're hoping everyone would stick to the lower levels? I mean, I didn't see many Indian people there, so I guess most of their customers order a lower level of spice, so they had the sauce bland.

Almost everything - especially the fact that the sauces was very bland, and the meat is added at the end. Maybe it was a bad day, both mine and my companion's dishes were very disappointing (her order was chikken tikka masala, pretty hard to screw up). We came away with the feeling that all that kitsch on the walls was what was giving the evidently rapturous crowd the illusion of good Indian food.

"the chicken tasted as if it was cooked apart from the vegetables and tagine sauce." - I hate it when ethnic restaurants do this, to cater to the vegetarians I guess? I had this happen to me at Gandhi Mahal tonight - some of the worst Indian food I've had in the Twin Cities (maybe because I'm Indian - Minnesotans seemed to LOVE the place though.)

FYI - Dandelion Kitchen is downtown now..
Just an FYI - the Dandelion Kitchen team has started bringing their cart to downtown Minneapolis. Their assigned spot is on Nicollet Mall right in front of IDS Center. Today was their first day, they said they were planning to be there "most weekdays" from around noon till about 2-3. I guess they're still getting the logistics worked out. The food was good though - I had the BLT. It was pretty good and I especially loved the bacon.
Hmong/Laotian/Vietnamese downtown?
I know!! When I first heard of street food licenses being given out in Minneapolis, the first thing I thought was "Bahn-mi trucks!!". Unfortunately, that hasn't happened so far. :(
Hmong/Laotian/Vietnamese downtown?
Does anyone know of any Hmong/Laotian/Vietnamese eateries in downtown Minneapolis (and I do mean downtown, not Eat Street or NE) ? I love that stuff, and the nearest thing I had to a weekday Hmong lunch was the semi-authentic banh-mi at Salade de Fusion. Sadly, it looks like they're closed. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.
The Vegetarian closed (?), anywhere else to get South Indian foods?
Thanks kevin47, yes it is indeed in Spring lake Park.
tcdexter, just FYI - Other than the play on the BK name, this place is definitely a 'conventional' Indian restaurant - they're not trying to do Indian fast food.

Yes, there's a new (3-4 months old, I think) South Indian place in Columbia Heights, called Dosa King. It's in a very non-descript mini strip mall on Central and 85th, but it is one of my favorite Indian places (I'm from South India). Apparently the owners used to be part of Nalapak until it closed. As the name implies, they do dosa, idli, uthappam etc very well. Also, best vadas I've had in the Twin Cities.

Peri-peri chicken in the Twin Cities? (MSP)
Hi. My first post here - actually, I created an account just to ask this question. :)
Does anyone know where I can get some of that famous Portugese/African dish called Peri-peri chicken (also spelt "Piri-piri" sometimes) in the Twin Cities?
