Grand Cayman - Recs?
Hi, fellow 'hounders. This Board was so helpful to me a few years ago for my trip to Bermuda, that I figured I'd check in again. I'm heading to Grand Cayman next week for a surprise trip for my husband's 40th birthday, leaving our little one behind with the grandparents in NY. We're staying at the Ritz, but sadly missing the Cookout. We will be there from Sun - Wed., so 3 dinners. So far, I've made dinner reservations at Michael's Genuine, Ortanique and the Brasserie, but am open to other suggestions. My hope is that lunch will be while lying on the beach. I appreciate any advice!
Thanks so much!!
Bermuda next week
Report: thanks to my fellow 'hounders - we're back and absolutely LOVED Bermuda. I cannot believe it is so close to NYC and I've never been before now. Elbow Beach Resort was really lovely, but expensive! (as a NY-er, that didn't come as too much of a surprise).
We lunched upon our arrival right on the beach and Mickey's and then had dinner that night at the Pickled Onion (thanks for the nachos recommendation, they were yummy).
The next day we took the ferries to St. Georges and then back to the Dockyard, where we had the local brew and some onion rings (we bought snacks and "lunched" on a bench in St. Georges - I get quite irritable if I don't eat regularly). That night's dinner was at Tom Moore's - BGG, I understand the "stuffy" reference but didn't find it that way at all. The service was over the top (in a good way) wonderfully attentive, and they accommodated my "can you please make the special without ham" without batting an eyelash.
Friday we literally were at the pool all day, squeezing in some poolside lunch, and then went to Happy Hour at the Princess Hotel - what a fabulous happy hour!! We wandererd around and ended up at Port O'Call for dinner, which we really enjoyed (and ended up costing less than our lunches at the hotel!).
Saturday we lazed at the beach all day, and of course had to eat lunch with the waves crashing..we ventured to the Swizzle South Shore that night, and ended up at a table next to a really fun bunch of Bermudians, so that night was really fun as well.
The food, overall, was really really good, and vegetarian friendly, which always makes me smile. My husband enjoyed the local wahoo and fish chowder, and we both thoroughly enjoyed way too many rum swizzles, with the occasional dark and stormy thrown in.
Thanks again, and if I can be of any assistance to anyone in NYC - just give a shout out!!
Bermuda next week
thanks for all the suggestions. I'm hopeful that Harbour Nights will begin next week so we're planning to hit one of your more casual places when we arrive on Wednesday - perhaps the Pickled Onion! I forgot to note that I'm a vegetarian (although a very accomodating one, happy to dine anywhere). We figured we'd have one fancy (aka "stuffy" :) ) dinner meal and keep the rest of it a bit more casual. We'll definitely hit Mickey's or someplace else at Elbow to enjoy our surroundings. As an aside, how's the weather been?
Bermuda next week
My husband and I are heading to Bermuda next week for our 5th wedding anniversary, and are staying at the Elbow Beach Resort. I've searched the threads and made a reservation at Tom Moore's (with Swizzle Inn as our post-dinner plan) for one night. Any other recommendations? We'll be there for 4 nights, 5 days and it's our first real trip without our little guy. Thanks!!
