Wurstboro/Monticello restaurant for Dad
Hi there. I'm a new-yorker now living in New Orleans, and want to send my father a gift certificate for a dinner at a restaurant in his area..which is Wolf Lake in Wurtsboro. Any ideas? he likes The Homestead, which is closed until April, and some fish-game preserve, which I cannot remember the name of. . A bit of a meat and potato man, nothing too fancy required. Thanks! amy
Looking for an on-site caterer for a small crowd...12-15 people. Two days breakfast & lunch
Pigeon caterers are great...they did our wedding (200 people), and a small house party (30 people). The young man who set up the food also 'tidied' the house the whole time, which I did not expect. www.pigeoncaterers.com. and the savory cheesecakes are amazing
A new Orleans Jazz Brunch - something other than Arnaud's!
Our new fave for brunch is Patois (uptown on Webster)...it used to be Nardos, but opened as Patois 1-2 years ago. AWESOME 'country french' cusine...panneed rabbit, biscuits with white gravy, grits n grillades, and of course omelettes and traditional brunch fare. no music, but the drinks are creative, and the wait staff has always been superb, and the chef is young and friendly...will make you any omelette you want, if you ask. It's our favorite hidden gem
Cafe Rani on the skids?
I've been there twice and will never go back...(even though I did see Kevin Spacey there last time). Both times I had disinterested waiters, who also kept forgetting things like, oh, silverware and our drinks. I understand when a restaurant is short-staffed, and if the waiter addresses that with a "sorry folks, but..", it's not a problem. But both times they moved like molasses and didnt seem concerned that I was waiting for a fork to eat my food. sadly, the food was good, but there are so many other places with great service uptown, that I can't justify going there again.
Where to watch the Saints game tonight with out of town guests?
my husband and I have the same problem whenever there's an away game...lack of sports bars in new orleans. cooter's is probably the most fun, brunos or friar tucks if you're college age...gordon biersch isn't bad, even though it's a chain and not truly 'new orleans', if you want to bring your friends to a local place
South Beach Weekend
hi there...went to indomania last night and loved it! the personal service (we had a glass of cava with the owner), the food was fantastic, and our bill was 150 for dinner for 2 and 2 bottles of wine...amazing. thank you so much for the recommendation.
South Beach Weekend
Hi y'all...my husband and I are going to be in South Beach tomorrow-Sunday and are looking for new restaurant ideas. We're staying at the Standard (our 4th time - a fan of the soothing pool and yoga, not of the overpriced poolside food). Have tried Sardinia - liked it. We like great food, good wine or creative drinks, local finds, price not a huge consideration (as long as it's worth it) late night dining, and were not afraid to eat somewhere that looks like a dive if the food speaks for itself - we're 32, newly married, no kids, very social, if that helps. possibly considering Spiga, Escopazzo, Touch or Talula based on reviews. any opinions?
