Chinese Food in London, Ontario?
Tasty coast has 2 menus, the "chinese" menu actually has english translations for most items (the other menu has "manchu wok" style north american chinese food). I dont know why they dont just give every patron both menus, if you are non chinese you have to ask for it. One of the dishes i enjoy the most in that place actually is in the "chinese" menu, ask for the ostmanthus flower scented fried chicken!
ISO stracchino cheese in GTA
If Quality cheese doesnt have it, try Grande Cheese down the street. Stracchino cheese is actually not that difficult to find in Woodbridge :)
Asador Tierra Aranda
Is this restaurant still open? I couldnt find any specific current information online about it. It is a shame if it closed down after ownership changed (as far as I know). Im trying to go for a good Asador de Lechazo in Madrid and don't feel like going back to Posada de la Villa or Botin.
Also, any recommendations for a specific branch of Asador de Aranda in Madrid? Ive been to the one near Tibidabo in Barcelona and that was decent. I would assume that the one on Preciados would be the most inundated with tourists, so the one near Plaza Castilla or the one in Barrio Salamanca might be better, would appreciate it if you guys could give an opinion.
Cocido at Malacatin (Madrid)
Does anyone know the price per person of the full Cocido at Malacatin? Also how is the Cocido here compared to La Bola or Daniela. Thanks!
San Pellegrino Aranciata
If you want to make a trip up to woodbridge youll see this in the major italian supermarkets like Seafood depot or San Antonio fish market. AFAIK they have the three standard San Pelligrino flavours commonly found in cans (Chinotto, Aranciata, Limonata), but in bottle form.
Anchovies packed in Salt : Any sources in downtown Toronto?
San Antonio Fish Market in Woodbridge has several varieties, you can even buy a portion of a giant can if you want (130 creditview) The other option, also in woodbridge, is the Fish Depot (9244 E Hampton Drive)
ISO: Nata / Portuguese custard tarts in Brampton
Their Natas are quite good, although there are some times where i think they added a bit too much extender (flour or whatnot) to the custard. If you buy a dozen you get a small discount and they sell a whole lot of different portuguese pastries.
I think they are even better than the famous natas makers in Macau.
ISO Horse Meat in SW Ontario
The link i posted above is a dedicated Italian horse butcher (as the name implies).
Fine Dining in Istanbul - Decisions.
If you are willing to make the trek to Tarabya, how about Kiyi for great seafood? It overlooks the water and is definitely a nice restaurant with regards to food (and unfortunately the price to match...)
ISO Horse Meat in SW Ontario
The only horse butcher that I know of in the GTA can be found a little bit south of woodbridge on Islington avenue.

Staub cookware at HomeSense
Homesense has a lot of good deals, but be careful because some of the cast iron cookware that seem like a bargain are actually factory rejects because of some sort of imperfection. Ie, the Le Creuset cookware sold in Winners and Homesense are actually "Second Choice", but youd be hard pressed to actually notice the difference, sometimes its just a slightly ill fitting lid or some sort of dent on the enamel.
ISO: The Best Panettone in T.O.
I go through industrial quantities of Panettone each season, and partial to Tre Marie. If you wait until after christmas you get it mostly at least 50% in a lot of the Italian groceries\bakeries out there.
Konner Chinese Restaurant (Finch & Midland)
I was at the restaurant yesterday and I had a smoked chicken gizzard dish that looked suspiciously like your Bamboo dish picture. Unless you specifically remember having ordered bamboo then that was likely what you ate!
ISO Crepe Spreader
I bought a domestic Krampouz machine and for some retarded reason it didnt come with a spreader (The traditional kind, not the spin device contraption the machine came with). Would appreciate it if anyone could direct me to a store that sells this.
Fauchon Products and Bonne Maman Products in Toronto?
I like several Fauchon blends of loose tea so whenever im in paris i buy enough to last (They do very well in a cold dry place). Sometimes i do see fauchon products in Pusateri's and Holt's, but at a MASSIVE markup (an 8 euro tin of tea for $30 + tax). I think if you are buying in bulk, its worth considering just ordering the product online from their website and having it shipped here...

Duchy Originals - London On
Have you tried Remark's market on Oxford and Hyde Park? They carry a lot of imported goods and as far as I remember there were some Duchy Originals products there.
Best Dinner Buffet in Makati
This is already my third week, so I am starting to get sick of Filipino and Chinese food. I guess if its not going to be a buffet anything goes :)
Best Dinner Buffet in Makati
Hey all,
I am desperately in need of opinions regarding what is considered the best dinner buffet in Makati. I have room (both health-wise and scheduling) for only one dinner and would not want it wasted. I have read mixed reviews about the Paseo Uno's luxury buffet, and since I am checked in at the Shangri-La I have breakfast at circles every day for the rest of the week, so would rather not eat there for dinner, unless it is goign to be mind boggingly different. There are no budgetary restrictions.
Thanks in advance!
Late night eating in Rome
Thanks Nancy! We will try to check those places out.
On the same idea of nightlife, have you or anyone else on the board been to Gilda's lately? We are trying to decide between going there or La Maison (of course assuming we can actually get in)
Oh and to keep things food related we are going to try out Ristorante Crispi 19 for dinner, which is getting some good reviews on tripadvisor but hasnt been mentioned on chowhound, if anyone knows about this place and has something to add please do so too :)
Late night eating in Rome
Thanks for the suggestions!
On a similar note, I understand that Rome does not have as much of a strong aperitivo culture as Milan, but I feel like going for something similar to a Tapas experience (I know i know, totally different country and culture!). Do you guys have any suggestions for good wine bars etc that have good free buffets or at least a reputation for solid snacking? Ideally we dont really want to go out of the way (ie, outside of the AURELIAN walls) for these.
edit: I almost said outside of the servian walls :)
Viennese Heurigen in winter
We ended up going to Mayer for Christmas Day dinner, and it was great! Thanks for the tips!
Silvesterpfad was great! (We didnt care too much about the food as we ended up having the Meierei at Steirereck's NYE tasting menu for only 55 Euros pp!)
Late night eating in Rome
Does anyone have any suggestions for a late meal (10:30-1100 pm) in the centre? We will be arriving relatively late from the airport and will be staying near the spanish steps. We have been to Rome before but we would rather have a solid suggestion than roam around aimlessly looking for dinner
Thanks!
Viennese Heurigen in winter
Thanks for the tips guys! I have made a reservation for Mayer and will see how it goes
Viennese Heurigen in winter
Wow, thanks for that site Sturmi and the recommendation Klaus! What other heurigen would you recommend that I search for there, like your favourites?
We do like fireworks so that is actually an appealing aspect of the silvesterpfad (i guess i will find out when i get there where I can buy fireworks hehehehe) :) I was just concerned about starving on an important food eating night of the year.
Another random question while im at it, when do shopping stores usually open in vienna in between christmas and new year (for example, here in canada Boxing Day is an important shopping holiday) ? I was on the mariahilferstrasse business association website and other commercial sites but couldnt really find any info on the post christmas shopping hours.
Viennese Heurigen in winter
Hey all,
Im mostly a silent reader of the forum but this time i have been forced to make a post because i simply cannot find the information i need!
I will be going to Vienna for christmas and new year's and I was wondering if anyone knows if any of the heurigen outside the city will be open, if so, which one should i go to? Im a pretty casual tourist and I dont really care if a place is too "touristy" as long as the food is decent and has good value.
Also, what kind of food is usually served in the kiosks for the silvesterpfad???
Piglet in Toronto
I am currently looking for a place (butcher shop or whatever) that sells piglets (whole but gutted). A recent trip to Segovia in Spain has given me the insane urge to attempt to cook a 21 day old piglet whole in my home oven.
Last year I ordered one at Fortinos but the "piglet" they sold me for 150 dollars was 40 pounds big and had to be chopped in three before it would fit in the oven.
Please help!!!
