OK -- good restaurants for a foodie mom in her 80's in Redondo Beach for Mother's Day dinner. Suggestions?

I love MB Post's description. Any others like that in Redondo Beach? They're totally booked.

Mother's Day in San Pedro

Looking for a nice dinner place for my 80+ mom in San Pedro. She is actually extremely alert and a foodie. I'm thinking Italian but am open to suggestions.

Need restaurant suggestions for Hollywood area near Santa Monica and Gower theater area

Yes, Bosc! I think we have a winner. Checked the menu which sounded great and not too small at all (similar to Bow & Truss) and the yelp reviews and it consistently gets 4-5 stars. Those who criticize seem to be mourning the change of ownership. Thank you so much for all the suggestions!

Hmmmm. This same group had a great time at Bow & Truss in North Hollywood before the theater (for the same family member's show). I think some of these are a little TOO grandparent friendly. Anything like Bow & Truss or the Federal you could recommend?

For a party of 6 or 7 near Santa Monica and Gower. Includes folks in their 50's and 60's (parents and grandparents going to see family member in a play). We're hip, but not too hip. I looked at the Bowery but they don't take reservations. Magnolia didn't get such great reviews on Yelp. Didn't seem to be much on Santa Monica Blvd. at all. Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thoughts on a pear crostata . . . your thoughts?

So I am making a rustic pear crostata for Thanksgiving. The recipe includes cranberries, but my hostess really doesn't care for cranberries. I am thinking of omitting them, and adding a little bourbon to the pear mixture, and serving with a bourbon whipped cream. Your thoughts?

Suggestions for Italian for my birthday - party of about 20

Thanks! Yeah, it is a little on the sedate side, but the food, service and wine are so good, the place is run by a father and son, so you feel a little like you're back in the old country, and if the company is good (I love my friends and colleagues!), then we make our own vibe.

Suggestions for Italian for my birthday - party of about 20

OK, never mind -- I just made a reservation at Tiramisu in Sherman Oaks. I've been there several times before and always love it, but wanted to try something new. But sheesh, what gives, that it takes 3 days to book a group reservation at Osteria La Buca? Really? They just lost about $1,000 worth of business . . .

Mozza is too expensive. I'm looking for the price range of Osteria La Buca, which on yelp is indicated by $$.

Suggestions for Italian for my birthday - party of about 20

Hi, I am looking for a fun, cozy Italian place for my birthday -- 20 -25 people. $$ priced. I have been trying to book for 3 days at Osteria La Buca and what morons-- they won't take a reservation for large groups over the phone and they don't respond to emails. So any other suggestions? Melrose, Noho, Hollywood areas please. Thanks, chow-peeps!

Zabaglione

Made zabaglione from the L.A. Times recipe a few days ago. OMG, yum! Super easy, and very elegant. The kind of dessert you can whip up while talking to your guests.

I actually learned to make zabaglione when I was about 9 years old. I remember standing at the stove with my grandmother, feeling so impatient while waiting for it to thicken! What a great memory. And the flavor of the Marsala wine the other night just brought it all back.

Just had to share! :)

Yummy! Got a bottle as a Christmas present. 93 on Wilfred Wong's list. BTW, how do you all feel about Wong's list?

Looking for great pizza place in Sherman Oaks/Studio City Area

Sorry I didn't respond before. How do you get notified that you have replies?

Anyway, the porcini pizza didn't actually have porcini -- it was like a runny, diarrhea mushroom sauce with absolutely no flavor, and some little, old, dried up pieces of green on top. We sent it back. We then ordered the Antiqua. Nice crust completely drowning in a sickeningly sweet balsamic reduction. Horrifying.

Looking for great pizza place in Sherman Oaks/Studio City Area

We ate at Caioti Pizza on Sunday -- god, what a disappointment. I use to go there all the time and it was really wonderful. But the porcini pizza we had on Sunday was absolutely disgusting. The Antiqua was almost as bad. Has anyone noticed that the quality has gone down? I heard that the owner recently passed away -- maybe this has something to do with it . . .

I want to meet a business contact at a nice wine bar (not too extremely expensive). They work in the 5900 block of Wilshire. Any suggestions?
