Good Bread in Bonita Springs area ??

thanks for the reply - sad isn't - I guess the local food movement hasn't hit here yet - I'm spoiled because my town in CT has an organic bread bakery that is terrific!

Good Bread in Bonita Springs area ??

Is there a real bread bakery in the area-- I haven't been able to locate one....the market bakeries are terrible - including Fresh Market. Any ideas would be appreciated--thanks

Best Eats neighborhood of 6th & 17th street?

I would appreciate any reccomendations of the best eats in this area --open to any types of foods--thanks very much!

Looking for a great sandwich in Bonita Springs?

Head to Barefoot Beach ( make left turn at light just prior to reaching Bonita Beach) a couple has opened a beach "cafe" they make terrifc BBQ Pork, chicken & pot roast sandwiches -- all downhome goodness. They also offer all fresh fruit smoothies. Their enthusiasm is wonderful - and I want them to be succesful because their food is really great - so show them some support if you are in the area!

Naples, Avoid Preston's Steakhouse

The Naples area has many very good steakhouses but this one left us feelinglike we were taken advantage of. It is a very small place, family run--we heard the steaks were good so we figured it would be such a nice change from the large steakhouses. Well the large steakhouse have the right formula--they charge a lot but you leave feeling it was worth it for a special experience. This place, charges the same prices ( maybe more) and the only positive is that the steaks were very well prepared, char on the outside, juciy inside. The service is very slow because the owner makes the waitstaff do everything from greeting customer to making the drinks, cutting the steaks etc. The service was not polished or experienced like one would expect with these prices. But to top the entire evening off, after ordering a $200 bottle of wine, rounds of drinks, appetizers for all of us, salads for everyone and desserts--they charged a $10 plate fee because 3 of us ate the $90 40 oz steak & one person ate a $60.00 steak. They said the $90 steak is for 2 people only! How rude, and what bad business to be so petty, especially for a family run small place. We tried to be patient witht the service even thought it was terrible but this really ruined a very expensive dinner. The desserts were we told are very special, they only make 2 types of cake a night and it is made by the owners wife in her own kitchen. Well we tried both and they were terrible! Dry, icing too sweet.....

I do have a great tip for this general area ( in Bonita Springs)...if you like downhome Italian food try a small place in the Albertson's shooping center called Za Za's - really excellent. Inexpensive, great atmosphere ( very small so call ahead)-- it really is a breath of fresh air--it's like places in Little Italy in NYC.

4 days in Bonita Springs

I have a 2ed home right near the Hyatt, and I have a perfect suggestion for you. I almost hate to tell poeple about this place it is so good. Za Za's in the Albertsons shoopping center is much more than a pizza place. Dont get me wrong the pizza is amazing ( by far the best in Florida, and just as good as our favorites in NY) but their entrees are terrific. It is a very friendly place and the food is really exceptional. It is very small so call ahead for a reservation - if you cant get one take out!! Also right in the hyatt Tarpon Bay is very kid friendly and the food is very good. Try the whole red snapper, or the many varieties of cerviche, they also have a kids menu. If you kids like Japanese Toyko Bay is the best in the area - we go to the sushi bar but the also have the table where they cook. A great very low key place for seafood is The fish house on Bonita Beach Rd ( near Bonita Beach). Sit outside on the dock they have great fish sandwiches and steamed calms , tuna bites.
Coconut Point has so many options - any would be fine for kids except Ruth Chris.I think they might enjoy Ted Turner's burger place - Ted's Montana Grill.

Suggestions for Park Slope Eating......

Subleting an apartment for 6 weeks in Park Slope ( 8th Ave) any suggestions for really great eats?

Thanks in advance!

Harrison, NY - Halstead Bistro - Terrible

I grew up in Harrison and my parents still live there, so we are are looking for restaurants to take them to when we visit. I had read several good writeups of this place. Again, this confirms you can not believe these magazines! This place has a very average decor, the food is well below average. A salad that was described as roasted beets ( a favorite of mine) came with canned beets - it also contained mushrooms that were bad. I ordered trout - how hard is it to make trout? Well, this was aweful! My husband had the seafood stew which was served in a creamy tomato sauce? Nothing tasted fresh. My suggestion for anyone looking for a nice meal in Harrison, NY would be LaTavola - located in a supermarket shopping center - but they have created a very nice atomsphere and the food is wonderful or if you like Japanese try Hajime - wonderful fresh sushi.

The Halstead Bistro is overpriced (entrees average about $24) salads $7 dessert $7
which would be OK if the food was edible!! I have had much better food a the Port Chester diner......

Charleston - Cru Cafe - EXCELLENT

This tiny restaurant is worth the wait ( we waited 45 mins to be seated at lunch). This is a catering business that serves a few tables in a small house. Creative dishes made with wonderful, fresh ingredients. Very good.

savannah- Uncle Bubba's (Paula Deen's brother)

This place is nothing more than fast food. The restaurant was dirty the night we ate there ( and it wasn't crowed at all! The bathrooms were also dirty. We tried the "famous" char grilled oysters - not impressed. Loaded with parm cheese & butter - we couldnt even detect the oyster! The Georgia grilled shrimp dinner was a joke, about 8 shrimp so small they looked like bait, not shrimp for eating. We also ordered "Paula's" famous fried chicken - our local supermarket in Connecticut makes much better fried chicken - I'm totally serious. This place may have the food network reccomendation but not ours!

"Cafe on the Green" Danbury, CT

It's the restaurant at the Danbury public golf course - I know pople that really like it, my opinion is very fair

lobster in CT on the water!

SoNo Seafood in South Norwalk - on the water. Very Very casual, picnic tables, lobster, corn etc in the plastic basket - good basic food .

Bonita Springs -Coconut Point Restaurants .....

I have tried The Grill Room for lunch twice and was very satisfied. BICE for dinner which was terrible. I've heard Blue Water Bistro is wonderful but I havent been able to get a reservation (prior to 9pm). Melt (gelato and crepes) the gelato is good ice cream but its not authenic gelato. The dessert crepes are OK - stay away from the savory crepes - just terrible. Has anyone tried any others??

cilantro tamales in Bonita Springs - Terrible

We have given this place 2 chances based on the reviews form this board. It is just horrible food. Tonight six of us all had flavorless food and my meal has exactly 4 tiny strips of meat with pepper and onions for $14.00! The mexican rice bowl came with rice and beef, they forgot to put in the salsa, cheese & beans. The salsa has no spices, the meats have zero flavor - stay away!

A'Tavola Bistro in Harrison?

For Harrison, they have very good food but I agree the prices add up quickly. 4 of us for lunch (2 split one soup & one sandwich). The other 2 had a sandwich each. One dessert and 2 coffees - it was about$80!Thats steep for a lunch in the suburbs!

Naples dining options

Please tell me more about this place on Bonita Beach Rd, Wylds.....also where on BB is it--thanks!!

Favorite Restaurants on Marco Island?

If you don't mind a bar atomsphere - Try "Little Bar" the seafood is very good and the desserts are great. We love the grouper ball also!

What happen to Danny Mellman at Bonita Bistro?

Thanks very much! Any other suggestions in the area are always welcomed. I will post on any good ones that I find!

What happen to Danny Mellman at Bonita Bistro?

Yes, we went there a few times last year and loved it but I agree about the location- most people would be very turned off. I was wondering if anyone knows where he is cooking now? Also if there are any stand-out restaurants in the new Coconut "Mall"? I have tried a few but so far nothing great.

What happen to Danny Mellman at Bonita Bistro?

Does anyone know where he is cooking now? We really miss Bonita Bistro!

Ching's Table, New Canaan

I haven't been there but a friend has been several times and said the first time was good but last fews time were terrible.

Anyone been to Pasta Nostra lately?

I dont understand why people rave about this place, the pasta is homemade - but thats about it- the service is bad, I ordered a seafood pasta fo $26.00 and i received pasta with sauce that had been flavored with seafood!! So many great places in SONO go elsewhere.

Ching's Table, New Canaan

No, Papaya Thai is owned by Plum Tree ( The Japanese restaurant next door to Ching's Table. Ching's table owes several small Fusion places in ridgefield, wilton etc

Best Hotdogs in Conn.

Take a drive to westchester! Walter's hot dogs on the post road(mamaroneck, NY) is by far the best hot dogs anywhere.

New and Good in Northern Fairfield County, CT?

Try Bernards Inn (fancy) in Ridgefield (exit 6 off of 684, rt 35 take you right pass the restaurant) I have lived in this area (from NY) for 16 years and this restaurant (about 6 yrs old) is one of the few that is close to a NYC restaurant. For a casual meal try the Tavern at the elm's (main street, ridgefield) the chef is Brendon Walsh (former Arizona 2000 chef).

Carraba's

It is much better than a typical chain. They are owned by Outback Steakhouse, which I hate! They have a mussel & wine starter that is excellent, the salmon is also very good. Their bread and EVOO to start is very good and the salad that comes with the meal is also good. Basic food but good - large portions. The one I go to in Bonita Springs is always packed - so that is a down side. Try eating at their "counter" wear you get to see the chefs put on a show - usually no wait and its fun.

Two buffet brunch places in CT -- good/bad?

silvermine is the best in the area. Nice combo of decent food and pretty atomosphere. I havent been to RR in a few years but it wasnt very good back then. Red Barn has never been much to speak of.
