What are the most overrated DC restaurants?

The experience I was talking about was at the District Chophouse. I was responding to a couple of different posts. There are a lot of factors that go in to pricing an entree; location, ingredients, and what the public will pay as well as other factors. However, in the restaurant business, there are baseline prices. For instance, when someone charges more than $30 for a pork chop, I believe that price is outrageous.

easter brunch for an out of towner

Go to www.opentable.com Click on Washington, DC restaurants and then on the home page there will be a link for Easter Brunch on the bottom left of the home page. The restaurants are broken down by area, so that will give you a start on Georgetown restaurants that are serving brunch. Of course it won't be an all-inclusive list, but it is a start.

What are the most overrated DC restaurants?

While I have never eaten at FF, I agree with you about overpricing. I don't mind paying for dinner, but when a restaurant charges quite a bit more for the same item that can be found anywhere else in town, then it becomes a bit ridiculous.

Looking for good brunch spot for large group/private party (Rockville/Bethesda/G-burg)

They're still open.

Visiting foodies need French restaurant rec

La Chaumiere is also a good choice.

What are the most overrated DC restaurants?

I had received recommendations from many people about it. Based on those recommendations and then my experience, I feel it is overrated.

Check out Visions Restaurant in Bethesda. They do brunch and have a backroom. Speak to Chef Tony. He owns the place and is a very nice guy. He may be able to accomodate you.

Gonna be in Baltimore for 2 days.

You definitely won't go wrong trying Woodberry Kitchen. If you want to stay away from the tourists in Little Italy, try Sammy's for Italian food, right off North Charles St.

best crab cake baltimore

One of the best crab cake dinners you are going to find is at Sly Horse Tavern in Crofton, MD. Can get a little pricey depending on the time of year, but give them a call first.

Anyone been to Cantler's near Annapolis?

That's the truth,BontheC. I always suggest heading out there around 2 or so, just to get ahead of the crowd. One thing nice about living in the area is that you can go out there once the tourists go home and enjoy yourself without the large crowds.

Anyone been to Cantler's near Annapolis?

I agree with most of the folks posting here. If you want crabs, go to Cantler's. If you're looking for other seafood or fish, there are plenty of other places to go. Cantler's charges fine dining prices for many of their entrees and then serve them on a paper plate with plasticware.

What are the most overrated DC restaurants?

I will throw District Chophouse on this list. Overpriced, boring food, terrible onion soup and mediocre service all make this place not worth the trip.

What are the most overrated DC restaurants?

I have never eaten there, but a friend of mine told me the other day that it is her favorite restaurant in DC. The fact is next door to the Spy Museum would lead me away. Too many tourists and amateurs. The restaurant doesn't have to be good because they have a captive audience.

Any good German food?

I'm with you. Nothing to rave about when it comes to the Old Stein Inn.

Any good German food?

I can not figure out what the appeal is about Old Stein Inn. If you are familiar at all with German food, this place isn't worth it. I have been there on three different occasion and have been disappointed each time. I will give them kudos for their beer selection, but the food, not so much.

Any good German food?

I agree with you about Cafe Berlin. Good food, good service. If you sign up for their email updates, you will be notified of specials in advance.

Any good German food?

Two thumbs up. This restaurant is great. Make a reservation, though. It can get pretty crowded. Also, if you are a fan of Schweinhaxe, they require 24 hour advance notice.

My Search for a Decent Sunday Brunch (Ongoing)

I haven't seen anyone mention Beacon Bar & Grill on Rhode Island Ave. Unlimited mimosas, good food, live piano music. $27.95 and if you go to their website, sometimes they have a coupon for $3 off. It has been rated the #1 brunch on Open Table for a while now. Definitely make a reservation.

Between Baltimore and DC, there's Sly Horse Tavern

Steve,

Because the menu basically changes everyday, it is hard to recommend one particular thing. Each day features a different fish, veal and chicken dish. It is also not uncommon to see venison or ostrich on the menu. The fish dishes are always good, usually prepared with an unusual twist. They have an excellent cream of crab soup everyday, plus they feature a soup and chowder of the day. Nearly every entree comes with their house salad, something you don't see very often. I have heard people say they think this restaurant is a bit overpriced, but if you look at the price of a salad on any other restaurant menu, that is at least a $5 add-on. They have a website, slyhorsetavern.com. There is a sample menu posted there.

Between Baltimore and DC, there's Sly Horse Tavern

If you find yourself in between the two cities and you're looking for a place to eat, you won't go wrong by visiting Sly Horse Tavern in Crofton. The restaurant is a replica of Williamsburg's Raleigh Tavern complete with fireplace. Each night features a variety of specials in addition to the regular menu. Mostly a locals place, it has quite the reputation in the area. Currently, they are running a lobster special on Monday evenings. The restaurant has outside seating once the weather warms up. I have been eating there for the past five years or so and have never left disappointed.
