Sushi for a beginner

Guu would be awesome! We're both bartenders so that kind of atmosphere might go over well. Might be worth waiting for...

Sushi for a beginner

Oooh, my parents took me to Zen once! What a terrific suggestion!!

Best Vietnamese food in Toronto?

It's in the east end a bit difficult to find if you're not a regular but it has the best pho in the city and their noodle dishes aren't bad either.

Sushi for a beginner

I have a friend who's never tried sushi. She's a fairly conventional eater (we have arguments about the importance of French cuisine and her favorite cooking tool is her BBQ) but insists she wants to try fresh, raw fish.

Everyone's telling me to take her to Sushi on Bloor or New Gen but I'm thinking Omi, partly for selfish reasons of having always wanted to go there and partly because I neither of us can afford to spend more than $100 or so on a meal.

My question is this: Do you think Omi, whether we just order sashimi or go for the omakase, will freak her out?

Best Espresso in the city...

Anyone know the name of that cafe just south of College on Augusta? It's on the east side of the street.

The Elektra first attracted my attention but I love how they give me a glass of water while I wait for my short espresso. The whole process takes less than a minute and then I'm on my way. I can't stand those places further down. The one on the corner does lattes in a glass and they taste so weak! Ditto for Moonbeam and they have shitty baked goods to boot!

Further east, I'm fairly devoted to Dark Horse for the cappuccinos, their newspapers and amazing brownies/butter tarts (best I've had in the city, bar-none!).

Mercury I like too but I'm less inclined to hang around unless it's outside.

Roast beef, yorkshire puddings

I second the House. Excellent value and the service is alright.

Best Hot Dog in TO?

Thirded! I love that they have pico de gallo!!
