The Square, Helene Darroze, L'Oranger, Gordon Ramsay?
I live in London but normally we go to the more ethnic or casual spots. An anniversary is coming up in mid-November and the above restaurants are on the short list. My husband tends to like the really traditional seared foie gras and souffle dishes that mark a special dinner for him. I love really good fish especially turbot, John Dorry and great seafood. I'm not sure we can get into GR, but their menu looked good for us. I remember we tried to get into The Square last year but waited too late and it was booked. Any other really top suggestions? I want something in the central London location and don't really care about the cost (too much). Thanks so much.

Any South London restaurants open Christmas Day?
The Ship, a gastropub in Wandsworth, has a Christmas Day menu.
Superb meal @ Trinity, Clapham, London
There is a cover charge of 1.50 that covers the sparkling or flat filtered water, the seasonal bite for the table which is a radish/taramasalata at present and their homemade bread and butter.
Superb meal @ Trinity, Clapham, London
I totally agree and I am so lucky I live a 3 minute walk from this amazing place! Today I took a party of 20 there for lunch and everyone loved it! Only problem is ---- not easy to get in on the weekend at short notice. Their Sunday lunch option for a group lets you order ahead a Beef Wellington or other large joint for your group in a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. I also appreciate their filtered flat and sparkling water served gratis.
Help with Midweek Lunch in London
Perhaps Last Running Footman? It is more of a gastropub but very nice menu.
High Tea & Theatre [London]
The Goring Hotel is nearby Billy Elliot and has a very good reputation for tea.
L'Ami Jean alternative
La Regalade was wonderful when I first had the pleasure of eating there last year. I do remember the trek to get there from the hotel, which is the same one I'm staying at this time. I'd like to stay a little closer to the central area due to the person who will be joining me. I will plan to return to La Regalade next time I am in Paris.
L'Ami Jean alternative
Have upcoming reservation for party of 2 at L'Ami Jean but could only get 7 pm. Due to some other plans this is not a very convenient time for us to dine. Would you be able to suggest alternatives with similar menu and price; most importantly that might have an opening this week during the popular 8-8:30 pm time slot . Prefer 6th, 7th, 8th. Staying in the 8th. Will travel to eat for right place.
Thank you!
Two women dining midweek looking for special experience!
Meeting a friend in Paris, staying in the 8th, want to have a special dining experiene. 1-2 stars would be fine, not too worried about the budget, would like to stay central in the 1st, 6th, 7th or 8th.
Have been to Joel Rubochon, Le Violon des Ingres, Ducasse and quite a few others. Nothing too stuffy and food that is more along the classical lines of preparation.
Any help most appreciated!
Good (cheap?) English breakfasts in Westminster, London
The Regency Cafe is good. 17 Regency Street on the corner.
Cinnamon Club serves breakfast during the week but doubt if it is in the budget category--still breakfast would be cheaper than lunch.
Brunch near Hunter College/Lex & 68th/68th
Looking for brunch spot mid July for small group. Found suggestion of Sel et Poivre on an earlier post and am definitely considering it. Need moderate price range (Sel et Poivre's brunch is $14.95 pp for instance). Any others come to mind within easy walk of the Hunter Kaye Playhouse Theater?
Many thanks for any suggestions.
Reviews from Greece and Istanbul: Athens, Rhodes, Crete, Santorini, Ios, Mykonos, and Istanbul
Also went to Hamdı et Lokantası ın Istanbul thıs week. There was a mısunderstandıng about our reservatıon and we were not seated on the terrace level. Ordered a bottle of whıte wıne and ıt was served warm. We were rushed to order (but dıd not) and forced them to chıll the wıne whıle we sat and waıted. Dessert and tea--we waıted and waıted and waıted. Fınally told them to forget ıt and got check and left wıthout gıvıng a tıp. Informed the floor manager thıs was the worst servıce we had encountered of late--they don,t care. Food was very good ıf you can stand the aggravatıon.
Trip to Ireland
Try Ely's Wine Bar in Dublin. 22 Ely Place near St. Stephens Green. Well priced and great food + wine.
In Vienna Now Need Help
We live in London so are certainly used to the smoking, but we have picked up colds so the smoking definitely is making it worse and hard for us to breath under the circumstances.
>Our hotel recommended Plachutta and thought another might be Gaumenspiel .
We have opera tickets for Thursday for Manon. Wiener Staatsoper Staatsoper. Is there a spot for dining after the performance nearby.
Thank zou.

[London] Looking for recs around Victoria/Belgravia
I would also suggest Kazan for Turkish food in an upscale setting with very good food on Wilton Road and Memories of China for Chinese food and fast service on Ebury street. Olivio and Olivomare are said to be good, but I haven't personally been to either of them.
Dinner around 51st/Lex vicinity
3 ladies staying at above location looking for great dinner place within reasonable walking distance (up to 65th or down to 32nd staying E) or shortish taxi ride. $100 per person including a drink or two would be nice. Italian, French, Greek, Turkish, Indian, American all great! Pleaseant atmosphere--not too hip or too young. Any great ideas for us?
Was thinking The Modern Bar but read mixed reviews.
Somewhere you go to again and again (London)
Cyprus Mangal at 45 Warwick in Pimlico is a great Turkish place that is cheap and the food is fresh and delicious.
Also in Pimlico on Tachbrook is Gastronomica which is an Italian casual place for a coffee, meal or to buy cheese, meat and wine. Very cool place.
I'm looking for a great Indian place in that neighborhood that is reasonably priced. Millbank Spice is horrible.
Where is Chow worthy in the Champage region?
Anyone have any ideas for a lunch spot in Reims? Cafe Anna is booked and I'm not looking for a 3 * experience; just a very nice lunch to break up the day.
Where is Chow worthy in the Champage region?
Trying to plan day trip to Reims on November 1. Cafe Anna is booked. Any other recommendations for a moderately priced lunch? Thanks!
Paris: Upcoming Salon Du Chocolate and 4 day trip to Paris
I have a couple of other ideas for Sunday--Le Petit Pontoise, Christophe, Le Comptoir, Le Stella or Le Fontaine de Mar. We are staying at the Hilton in the 8th. Any recommendations nearby?
I also hope we will have a chance to have some Vietnamese food while we are ion Paris.
Paris: Upcoming Salon Du Chocolate and 4 day trip to Paris
Has anyone done the O Chateau wine tastings?
I looked at the trips to Reims, but the Saturday morning (Nov 1) direct trains aren't availalbe so they must be booked. If we went on Friday I would have to cancel my two reservations (above) and I hate to do that. We can get over at another time hopefully.
Paris: Upcoming Salon Du Chocolate and 4 day trip to Paris
I am currently living in London and will be here for several years. In the past my husband and I visited the Chocolate Show in New York held in mid November. The same organizers do these shows in several locations, including Paris. This year it is being held October 29-November 2 at the Paris Expo, Porte de versailles in the 15th. Tickets are available through FNAC (French only) for 12 Euros each which includes one day admittance.
We have been to Paris before when the economy wasn't such a problem and had the opportunity to try some fine dining establishments at that time. Now we are going for the more modest restaurants.
Thursday dinner L'Ami Jean
Friday lunch Atelier Joel Robuchon
Friday dinner La Regalade
Saturday dinner L' Petit Troquet
Sunday dinner Mon Viell Ami
Probably we will go to the Show on either Saturday or Sunday. Would anyone know a good place for lunch near the Porte de Versailles that would be open on Saturday or Sunday?
Also, would anyone know of a good wine tasting experience on Saturday? I found a website of a company called O Chateau that has several options--anyone used them? Would really like to take a day trip onn our own to Reims but just dont think there is time. Has anyone done the bus trip to Reims? Worth the time?
Any other high level wine experiences to recommend? We do not speak French other than a few words.
Thanks very much.
Marseilles booked/ What's similar nearby?
Thank you! Thank you! I am pleased Trecolori could give us a large table on Wednesday.
Will look forward to trying West Bank Cafe another time as the TT location is actually more convenient.
Marseilles booked/ What's similar nearby?
Hate to answer my own question, but . . . I found availability at Trattoria Trecolori.
The others I was considering: West Bank Cafe, Pigalle, Gaby's, Resette and Cafe Un Deux Trois. So bummed Marseilles cannot take us as it is a favorite of mine.
What's the best of the lot mentioned above? Want to keep the price moderate/similar to Marseilles.
Marseilles booked/ What's similar nearby?
I'm desperate. I need a restaurant for a group of 12 after the Gypsy matinee on this Wednesday, April 2. Theater is 246 W. 44th St. Looking for something nearby similar to Marseilles. How is Cafe Un Deux Trois?
Thanks!!!
Anguilla this winter
I was on Anguilla Feb 23-March 2. Veya, Hibernia and Cote Mer were especially good. Anything you order at Veya will be great. Hibernia food has more of an Asian twist to it. Cote Mer has many specials and the owner takes your order and can steer you in the right direction. In general, stick with the fresh fish at anyplace on the island.
Springfield Illinois; Best Meat Market, produce
Thanks for the info on Humphrey's. I'll give them a call. I also heard about Turasky's--any opinion on that meat company?
Springfield Illinois; Best Meat Market, produce
Going to the area for Christmas and want to order a filet roast. Where can I order ahead an Angus or prime filet or other beef roast?
Also, where would be the best source for quality produce. From experience I know it is difficult to get certain things. Specifically I would like to find fresh fennel and haricot vert.
Thanks!!
Best food-driven island vacation?
Anguilla is likely the best island for dining in the Caribbean. Must try the new restaurant Veya in Sandy Ground area. Fabulous food and lovely restaurant. I could name 15 or so top restaurants at various prices, but most fine dining restaurants are in the $20-$30 entree category.
