My New Favorite for Passover

I also use that. Couldn't find any patterns I liked this year, but the white is just fine. It also makes fantastic text book covers for the kids...

2014 Kosher June NY/NJ Wedding

Your number is low for this area, and just about the only place I can think of is Keter Torah, in Teaneck, which has an in-house caterer. My bet is that mid-week would get you the lowest price. Can't tell you anything about the liquor situation...but I would assume that is provided by the caterer/hall. Mazal Tov! (I'm making one in April)

Kosher in Italy

We brought back olive oil in tins, well sealed, wrapped in bubble wrap and multiple plastic bags. Bought it at an estate. My husband said it smells like "gan eden." How can you not bring that home?

Heard about this too late! But they will be back on the 20th. I heard that Smokey Joe's was there as well.

Jews won't pay for milchigs

I was not at all impressed at my one and only adventure to Sacred Chow. Fake meat, fake cheese...feh. But I was recently at PeaceFood Cafe. YUM. And not a fake Italian item on the menu!

Jews won't pay for milchigs

We ate at Solo Dairy and while the food was phenomenal, the service was not. We normally get very good service when we go to any of the Prime family of restaurants, so we were very disappointed in that part of the meal.
That being said, I'm interested to see what they will do with Chinese food. I'm not sure what "high end" Chinese entails, and I adore Chopstix in Teaneck.
And even though 23 days of chagim have just ended, I'm still looking forward to our next trip to Pardes!

Philadelphia restaurants

You are so right!!! But we will let her come HOME with the train/bus...probably drive her back...as she'll be returning more laden than when she left. As far as the freshman 15 are concerned....you don't know my daughter! She eschews carbs (always wanted to used that word) and loves, loves, loves her veggies. I'm not worried about her gaining weight...more worried about her losing!

Philadelphia restaurants

Home is Teaneck, a 2 hr drive. She's in Riepe, no kitchen facilities at all. New and confusing dining programs, but TPTB said they can be changed when she figures out her eating habits! With the crazy Yom Tov schedule this year, I have a feeling I'll be driving there quite often over the next few weeks...

Yep, I'm a parent, and she's an engineering student, but undergrad, so housing in the Lower Quad. Drop off went fine, but she already had an even at 4:30, so we left before dinner was even being considered and got home in time to eat here. Oh well, I'm sure there will be other opportunities to chow down in Philly.
BTW...parking was easy...they had spaces set aside for unloading cars but only for a 1 hr max (extendable for slow-pokes).

Food That Travels Well

You could bring a George Foreman and a sandwich machine. We did that in the Bahamas and it was wonderful.

Burritolam - First Impressions

I went at 4:45, thinking that the dinner crowd would not be in yet...and boy was I right. All the staff was sitting at tables...I was the only customer. Got a beef fajita, which was delicious, and fries, which were undercooked. My husband got a chicken burrito...not yet eaten. Sad that there was nobody there.

Totally agree with you! Had our first experience there in January. And we were even serenaded by the owner! Yummy, yummy food!

Solo, in its dairy incarnation (Manhattan)

Went with my husband and another couple. When Solo was fleishig, the restaurant seemed quiet and refined. Last night it was quite loud and raucous. It took a few minutes for someone to greet us at the door. We were quickly seated, handed menus and had specials explained...we ordered pretty quickly. And then it started...chumus (delish) on the table, but no bread for about 15 minutes. Water...did they run out? We kept having to ask for refills. One appetizer (fettucine alla salmon, an entree we all shared) arrived first, then the other 2 large appetizers (tuna tartare and eggplant parmagiana). Table quickly bussed...and then we waited...and waited. Three entrees arrived - chilean sea bass, black bass and dover sole - and the 4th had to be "requested." ALL WERE DELICIOUS! I was the last to finish, and we had to ask the server bringing us the dessert menus to clear my plate. We ordered 4 desserts and 2 lattes. Again, all yummy. But the service was really unacceptable. It seemed they were short-staffed or just plain disorganized. I would imagine they realized there'd be a big crowd on Sunday of the 9days. Many tables took forever to be bussed, and then the crowds gathered at the entrance.

Yoplait Greek Yogurts

It's the Greek 100 calorie yogurt. I spoke (emailed) with the OK, and they said that any containers without a hashgacha are made in an unsupervised plant. Sigh.

Until now, I always saw an OK-D on the container...now I just bought strawberry flavor without a hashgacha (and ate it before I noticed). Any clues?

My husband is at Nobu tonight. We'll both be going to ETC on Monday (hopefully). I would give you a comparative analysis, but if he has lamb anywhere, he's happy.

Read Michael Pollan's new book "Cooked." He tells you how to make your own. You need patience, as much as anything else.
